this is pretty sweet. the things on the back of his head are horns. i read it in a book once that some hmong people in china do these rituals with horns.

@AtarashiNOh horns have been used by the sinicized hmong of sichuan. it is very possible that perhaps many generations ago, a shaman from this particular group of hmong people may have been trained by a shaman with sichuan origins and spread amongst this branch. also from what i know, "flower hmong" shaman nowadays do practice shamanism with horns. but to answer your question, shamanism differs among hmong people. we may never know unless we go back to china and ask.
