As for the money thing, have you ever been to a Christian/Catholic church? They take offerings as a way to spread the word of God. How can you assume that the church of Scientology isn't doing the same? I mean, my father donates at least half his paycheck to Joel Olsteen. (He has done it for a good half year now, I'm not entirely sure he still does), but there's an enormous chance that over half the people who hear the word of God, have donated a significant amount of money to their churches.
