I think if you've ever seen Rush live you'll know what KingOfKatamari "means" which I guess means that actually you are the "dumbass" who has never even seen the best band in the world live. Shame on you.
To think, this song is Rush's only official "hit" (#21) after all these years... I refuse to think of them as one-hit wonders. Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, the Spirit of Radio, Freewill, all of those songs were hits in every sense of the word aside from reaching the Top 40. Our definition of "hits" shouldn't be limited to how songs perform on an airplay chart. The crowds singing along to YYZ at every concert certainly feel the same.
@KingOfKatamari Same thing applies to Saga and Chris DeBurgh who all had rock radio staples but little pop glory. Pink Floyd, same deal. They had two US Top 20 hits yet sold more albums than any person who had #1 pop singles.
@MrJonny333031 Would you just read what you've written? Africa is going to be just fine with or without your "medieval world" opinion. There's, however, no hope for you, Mr. Johnny, no matter what world you think you belong to.
Who doesn't love that industrial rhythmic beginning? Allegedly, Rush has sold some 40 million albums. Well, if the world would just get the F'n wax out of their ears, that would be 400 million. Rush? priceless.
I would like to think of Steve Jobs, and think that this song describes so well who he was. He truly revolutionized our lives today, and we will miss him forever. iMourn the death of Steve Jobs.

The reason why they are not in the hall of fame is because they are too great for it. Rush will help save the world. I'll let you guys in on a little secret. I've heard the 'official explanation' is along the lines of "Rush is certainly worthy in terms of music, but they don't represent the wide-spread popularity that is typical of our nominees".
To me, that translates as "Their music is too good for ordinary listeners".
@DJChrisBradley "I've heard the 'official explanation' is along the lines of "Rush is certainly worthy in terms of music, but they don't represent the wide-spread popularity that is typical of our nominees""
If someone like Leonard Cohen or Tom Waits is popular enough to be inducted then so is Rush.
Rory Gallagher should have been inducted 20 years ago....go look him up. Jimi Hendrix said he was the best guitarist in the world in 1969. He spanked anyone on a strat....like i said..you have to be popular before anything. Most people that inspired the people that are in the HOF get left behind.
a few deserving bands and people (Tom Waits)do get in but come on...Neil Diamond just got in...i never thought of him as rock and roll. He does have 200 million albums sold worldwide(thats why)
These guys come from a time when lyrics actually had to have some meaning. Songs like "Something For Nothing" were not only really kick-ass tunes, but ALSO had meaningful lyrics. Hard to find these days.
@smeato09 Those guys are the best. I think it should be mandatory that all movie soundtracks include a Rush song from back in the day. Some bands lose it after stumbling into a few hits, but these guys have true talent. A Passage to Bangkok is one of my favorites of all time along with Tom Sawyer. And I'm 25yrs old! Most people my age like crap. I like real music. Hemispheres and 2112 are some of the best music of all time in my opinion... and my father's ;-)
@smeato09 hey, I'm 15 and i listen to the same stuff along with blues and jazz and almost everything released. but you know what you're 14 and thats awesome that you know good music and music that has heart and meaning but because you're 14 doesn't make you any different from the 30, 40, 50, 60, how ever old they are. just means you love music with meaning. more power to you man, rock on!
three cheers for the new world man. May 'he' learn the self-control mentioned and harness all that power for good. (Written by a new world woman visiting the old world.)
i dont think that this song is about literally the "new world" its about the new generation. and its funny it works for both last generation and this generation. P.S. Talkin bout my Generation. who reference. sorry... that was necessary
I was so happy I got to see these guys live over the summer. No one concert is the same for everybody, but Rush isn't just a concert, it's an EXPERIENCE.
I remember playing over and over, especialy the bass run Geddy does at the end(3:27-3:30 and 3:33-3:36) GEEEEZ...It's now that I realise what an incredible amount of wealth Geddy's playing was for me way back in the day.
@rmww117 because Micheal Jackson and alot of other Hip hop pop cock kinda people are in there. When they say Rock and roll hall of fame the description is far from accurate
