hey bAdDA5z. first of all the correct word is "you're". second of all don't call people a dumbass if you can't spell. third of all, try bringing that squat to the USAPL, IPF, ADFPF, or 100% Raw. It won't pass. I still gave the guy kudos for being strong as hell. he is stronger than me. But my answer does not change. sorry.
in a sanctioned powerlifting meet he is not hitting parallel. period. he is damn close and can probably legitimately squat 600 lbs. but he's not hitting parallel on these by powerlifting standards. the crease of the hip must be parallel with the top of the knee to be a parallel squat.
Pretty impressive squat. When I read the caption 635 squat I expected to see either really horrible form or a short, fat powerlifter with his knees wrapped in a full body suit. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a tall, lean, lifter who goes down damn near parallel. Jarron must be some sort of athlete. Im guess ing a defensive end somewheres.
Can you immagine if this guy can turn into a premiere pass rusher? With him and Peppers it would be the best D line in the league espescially if Tommie Harris is back and healthy.
@thep0pularj0ck And thats probably the dumbest reply I've ever read on youtube.. sure, lifting weight has some to do with football, but technique and skill are way more important.. how much help is being able to lift 300 pounds going to be to a wide receiver? Not much. So just stfu, and sit in the corner
LOL - Guys like you crack me up! Get on the internet and become 10 feet tall!
OK jr - Time to go to school.
Lifting weight s IS part of the picture and when Xersi claimed that it was not important I called him out on that. Since my comments made you mad I will take up my arguement with you because it is clear that you are just as lost as your friend.
Lifting weights allows your muscles to move faster, stronger and have more endurance. It is weight training that allows athletes
Skill is a competely different word. It is defined as the ability or dexxterity to complete a task. You train all parts of your body to complete those tasks. In fact - this is something that is so basic that I can't believe that anyone accept an internet troll would pick a fight about it.
LOL - I'm not sitting in the corner. You are welcome to come try to make me.
He could get a little lower? Yea right dude, when you've got 635 pounds on your shoulders, you could really give two shits about going half an inch lower
@JakeEwing5 Same argument can be made about benching, but it's still a void press if you don't touch your chest. Parallel squats aren't full squats, they're only considered full squats by people who want to be able to squat that much more weight.
@xNewAgeWarriorx No they're not, really really not. In fact parallel squatting is the worst squat you can do, there is more shear stress on your knees when you're in the parallel position than the proper (full) squat.
@kylewaller That's if you do high bar squatting. Low bar squat to parallel has the least knee strain because of its wide stance.A parallel squat is recognized everywhere as being a real squat.
@xNewAgeWarriorx So many people are willing to acknowledge a parallel squat because it means they can claim to squat more weight. Look at all the people who half bench press because it means they can do more weight, it's the same thing. A parallel squat isn't a full squat because it's not the full range of motion (and no hyper-extension either). Would you condone half arm curls if you could do it with a higher weight? Probably so. I bet you shoulder press from the top of your head too.
@kylewaller Except a parallel squat works all the muscles properly and doesn't create muscular imbalances. Comparing half benches and half curls to a low bar squat is wrong on so many levels. You sound like a newbie who doesn't understand how the body works, oh and people do half benches (Board presses and half benches) to strengthen weak parts of their lifts. Jesus spend more time actually researching what your talking about instead of blabbering some random junk.
@xNewAgeWarriorx Yeah, like I don't know about half presses to improve sticking points, that's not the point I was making though and you know it. I was talking about people who do half reps so they can do more weight. Also, it's "you're" not "your". Additionally, you claim I'm a newbie who doesn't understand how the body works, yet you're saying a below parallel squat creates imbalances? Are you sure about that? Squatting parallel creates a muscle imbalance between your quads and hamstrings.
@kylewaller Squatting 1 or two below parallel doesn't cause imbalances...where the hell did you hear this?Where did I say below parallel squat creates imbalances?Reading comprehension? "Except a parallel squat works all the muscles properly and doesn't create muscular imbalances." Half curls and half most things create imbalances. You're, your, its a grammar mistake. I'm not writing an essay.
@kylewaller You're absolutely right. I'm sick of seeing assholes do a fuckin curtsy with 315 on their back and they think they are strong. I say "squat ass to calves or get the fuck out." It's ok though. Let them do their 3 inch "squats" while those of us with a fully functioning brain develop real strength.
@kylewaller What degrees do you have? What certifications do you have? Do you decide the rules for weightlifting federations? Do you publish books about training or weightlifting in general? Everyone everywhere agrees that the low bar squat is a legit squat. There are records about it, its a sport, it has rules. You are delusional.
@xNewAgeWarriorx What exactly am I having delusions of? Oh, so now to post an opinion I have to meet your criteria. To state "everyone everywhere agrees that the low bar squat is a legit squat" is total BS. Ever watch the olympics? Notice how they all squat properly and deep? That's how you should do it, real squats. Heard of Basic Barbell Training by Mark Rippetoe? Go get schooled, bro. "If it’s too
heavy to squat below parallel, it’s too heavy to have on your back."
@kylewaller 1 or two inches is below parallel. People say parallel because its physically impossible to control yourself to go to parallel. If you hit parallel its at least below by a inch or so.In the olympics they don't squat for competition.Still doesn't change the fact that a low bar squat is a real squat. How's about going to stronglifts, and to tnation and to any other site and see how low bar is good.
@kylewaller Oh and parallel is a inch or two bellow parallel. It happens that way since its impossible to stop at dead parallel with a heavy weight on your back.
no it clearly wasn't deep enough for a meet standards, mostly because of his form not his strength. He pushing knees forward instead of opening up allowing him to go lower. He obviously very strong since can pull 655 and handle 600+ on his back pretty easily. But in terms of judging the squat from a weightlifting meet perspective it was high and would not count.
I would go along with that answer. Hard to judge a parallel squat in shorts though. That is why lifting comps require you to wear a singlet so you can see the hip and knee clearly. Great power though, I can't handle that weight yet.
@sjktss not legit...his partner was pulling him up the whole time...go watch power lifting meets, the spotters can not touch the lifter...this squat does not count...but the DL was legit, cant cheat doing that
Amazing! I'm pretty sure that every defensive linemen in the NFL can squat that much. Although it's impressive, I doubt it is that impressive amoung his peers.
being able to do heavy weights doesn't mean your going to be good in the NFL. He's done with college, in pro's, he is going to get his head spun around most certain...
the one legit negative is the increased ROM which isnt that important because of the momentum gained during a lift that a couple extra inches isnt hard once you get moving
here are the pros for being tall
1.weigh more, hence bigger weight can be help and stabalized easier
2. more muscle mass and ability to intake more protein and digest it
and MY MAIN POINT IS THIS
GUESS HOW TALL THE WR HOLDERRS IN THE SQUAT, BENCH, AND DEADLIFT ARE?
but in order to create momentum one must push the bar hard enough to cause acceleration...which all lifters should try to do..but it would be harder to maintain acceleration over a longer distance
and look at the WR holders in individual divisions instead of overall
the overall record holders are there because despite being tall they have a very stocky frame.
Bolton is over 300lbs...Vlad Alzahov is very heavy not sure of his weight..and all the big benchers
Im gonna have to agree with Squirt on the height thing with it being harder to powerlift. I mean he named some legit negatives and your pros arent really that legit. Tall = more weight to stabilize. I mean I dont that doenst really sound like a good point.
depends on your body structure. most people who are above 6 feet are fairly skinny etc. but on average smaller people have an easier time. but when you want to get the bigger weight up and if you train 24/7 then being tall is good.
and im a fairly short dude myself, being 5"7', and i wasnt that strong freshmen year and have increased trmendously to being one of the stringest seniors in my grade by CONSISTENT LIFTING
mpressive. Im just reading some of the comments about him going low enough and laughing. He looks plenty low to me not to mention the fact that with that kinda weight, it WILL hurt his joints if he goes below parallel. Again, why some people say he isnt going low enough is for the same reason not to many people do squats to begin with, because its a hard exercise. Much easier to just do biceps all day.
Impressive. Im just reading some of the comments about him going low enough and laughing. Makes me wonder. I played a short (5'6") but fast wide receiver back in the day. Got more speed from squatting. At 16 I was doing 305 max. and only 135 lbs. That moved me from a 4.8 40 yard dash to a 4.52 and slam dunk contender (on a good day) At 18 was doing 415 at 150 lbs. (no 40 time but could dunk more consistantly) Makes me wonder what would have been possible if I kept playing football as my incentive. Yah... I know... Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda.
he was actually parallel, which is the powerlifting standard of depth, and even if he did go halfway, there's no way he could only get 315. this dude's an nfl player
uhmm to Stylnk you never should squat past 90 degree's its not proper. But if thats what your saying that my bad. Either way wtg bears for this draft pick he's a work horse!
Squatting 635 pounds is a lot of weight and this was done correctly. 99% of people I see doing squats or even bench press never ever go all the way down. Then they brag that there the shit. Go all the way down and do correct form. Your just cheating yourself and people know that your not as strong as you claim you are.
u may o may not b rite.. cus it coulld jus b dat tha bar is so skinny and tha picture is so very poor in quality.. u cant c tha bar or it colud b fake hanse tha reason he used pictures of him dead liftin instead of video wen he did tha squats.. HARD TA TELL ..HE STIIL A BEAST AND GO BEARS!!!
Cholesterol is a legal steroid, but obviously completely useless as a PED. It often comes down to a definition of a particular substance as determined by scientists or a governing body.
they usually dont say steroids since they are type of chemical compounds........they usually refer to them as anabolic steroids because they jack up there testosterone.......allows them to build up muscle mass....which in turn gives them an unfair advantage.......but in my opinion every boring sport athlete should be forced on steroids....i mean cmon baseball is a pretty shitty...... sport jack em up lets see 10 homers a game.

Actually haven't squatted for max in probably 8-9 years, but do lift. I could probably walk in and do 450 right now, I know I could match the dead lift he did. If there are NFL linemen (any OL and DT at least) that can't do this, I doubt they are that good. Sorry, some of you have no concept of real strength, instead you choose to talk a big game on your little keyboard. Maybe we should turn it into who can type more words per minute, that would probably make it in your realm of understanding.
why don't you give us some examples of legal steroids? I have a feeling your just another ignorant person bored on youtube with no real actually knowledge of weightlifting, or steroids.
to a lot of out shape nerd he is jesus haha you can't convince them. i have done 600 hundred and change too haha i ain't one of those non sport playing nerd with no videos.
yeah anything you can take to increase your hormone level. they take them but you dont have to take that to lift that much weight... it took 14 years but i'm skinny some stronger could do it sooner
You guys are all fucking retards. This isn't that much my ass.I want to see you squat that, actually i want to see you squat 500. This is a lot of weight. You guys are all a bunch of haters.

joecandito 2 years ago
fall forward? lol
regardless of what you do, or how lucky you are not to be hurt yet...thats still unsafe. you never want to dump a weight
SquirtTribePride 2 years ago
how is that not unsafe
i squat to parallel with very good form and if i cant get it, the safety bars catch it right away
maybe its because other people dont set the saftey bars high enough
and by fall forward, i mean i just push as hard as i can and if the weight is too much, it causes me too fall forward
not hard to do, and i never have came close to getting hurt squating
joecandito 2 years ago
dropping down with weight on ur back is very unsafe because usually when u dump a weight it is a jerky eccentric movement
if it is ALOT of weight its very dangerous
i have saw alot of ppl at the gym i go to get hurt that way
off course they are fucktards
and if u make it part of the way up and dump it u have to just let it go off ur back, which can damage the bar...

it is harder to maintain the correct center of gravity
longer for the bar to travel
if u are taller then ur muscles are longer as well and actually makes it harder for them to contract
whats the pros
SquirtTribePride 2 years ago
not harder to contract
the one legit negative is the increased ROM which isnt that important because of the momentum gained during a lift that a couple extra inches isnt hard once you get moving
here are the pros for being tall
1.weigh more, hence bigger weight can be help and stabalized easier
2. more muscle mass and ability to intake more protein and digest it
and MY MAIN POINT IS THIS
GUESS HOW TALL THE WR HOLDERRS IN THE SQUAT, BENCH, AND DEADLIFT ARE?
5 5? nope?
6 feet
joecandito 2 years ago
but in order to create momentum one must push the bar hard enough to cause acceleration...which all lifters should try to do..but it would be harder to maintain acceleration over a longer distance
and look at the WR holders in individual divisions instead of overall
the overall record holders are there because despite being tall they have a very stocky frame.
Bolton is over 300lbs...Vlad Alzahov is very heavy not sure of his weight..and all the big benchers

Rychlak

i dont know what your point is by giving normal height wr holders
the point is this
ive heard short people complain that they are too small and weigh so much less
and tall people complain about their longer limbs
it all doesnt matter since the wr holders in every powerlift are around average
dont complain JUST LIFT
but if anything, its limb length to height RATIO would make a difference
joecandito 2 years ago
my point was showing that they are not your average tall guy
and im not complaining
i wouldn want to be short, although it would be an advantage for me in powerlifting...as far as pound/pound lifting...
SquirtTribePride 2 years ago
ok
your view of an "average tall guy" obviously wouldnt be fulfilled as they are powerlifters
short powerlifter arent your "average short guy"
there is a mispercetion that short people are naturally stocky which isnt the case, most of the time they are just small with a small shoulders
as far as pound for pound, that for sure gives the edge to the shorter guy
i wouldnt want to be short either, but i dont have much of a choice (im 5'8"0
joecandito 2 years ago
Im gonna have to agree with Squirt on the height thing with it being harder to powerlift. I mean he named some legit negatives and your pros arent really that legit. Tall = more weight to stabilize. I mean I dont that doenst really sound like a good point.
IBOOZLOTZ9919 2 years ago
depends on your body structure. most people who are above 6 feet are fairly skinny etc. but on average smaller people have an easier time. but when you want to get the bigger weight up and if you train 24/7 then being tall is good.
Lolercopterz 2 years ago
i would disagree with that
there are many tall lanky dudes that are just strong
as there are many stubby short guys i know and they are all weak
it comes down to one thing
LIFTING THE IRON
joecandito 2 years ago
and im a fairly short dude myself, being 5"7', and i wasnt that strong freshmen year and have increased trmendously to being one of the stringest seniors in my grade by CONSISTENT LIFTING

Hes a strong dude. But that is not a real squat. A true squat is measured when the front of the thigh is parallel to the floor.

he got pretty damn low and hes a pretty tall guy so that makes it more impressive

Squat was not deep enough. He really did half of that. So, he could probably only do around 315lbs.
bendernet1 2 years ago
His legs were parallel to the ground, dude. That's a universal standard.
naivete2006 2 years ago
he was actually parallel, which is the powerlifting standard of depth, and even if he did go halfway, there's no way he could only get 315. this dude's an nfl player

I can understand the "fake" comments.
Watch the mirrors...and see if you can spot the missing bars in some frames.
Anyway, I doubt the spotter can lift Gilbert it looks like.

uhmm to Stylnk you never should squat past 90 degree's its not proper. But if thats what your saying that my bad. Either way wtg bears for this draft pick he's a work horse!
ashtonw05 2 years ago
Squatting 635 pounds is a lot of weight and this was done correctly. 99% of people I see doing squats or even bench press never ever go all the way down. Then they brag that there the shit. Go all the way down and do correct form. Your just cheating yourself and people know that your not as strong as you claim you are.

Cholesterol is a legal steroid, but obviously completely useless as a PED. It often comes down to a definition of a particular substance as determined by scientists or a governing body.
elijah5674 2 years ago
they usually dont say steroids since they are type of chemical compounds........they usually refer to them as anabolic steroids because they jack up there testosterone.......allows them to build up muscle mass....which in turn gives them an unfair advantage.......but in my opinion every boring sport athlete should be forced on steroids....i mean cmon baseball is a pretty shitty...... sport jack em up lets see 10 homers a game.

That squat is pretty damn impressive! Ryan McDonald, the old center from Maryland a few years back did 640lbs straight bar deadlift in high school!
