hey does anyone know if this exact rear end could be swapped with a 2000 mustang.. like will it be a easy direct swap? or is the rear different on the 05+
@xXJohnny05xX Ford starting using the 8.8 rear end in the 1993 mustangs in the cobras, SVT, Mach 1, GT and Bullits... with the only difference being gear selections and mounting points for shocks and control arms. so you shouldn't have any problems swapping it into place on your 2000 model. In the 2010 and 2011 models they kept the 8.8 rear end in both the GT and the V6 models and eliminated the 7.5 from all production vehicles.
3.08 was stock on stangs pre 05. 05 up the autos were 3.31. I don't have a stick but I hear they were 3.55 till 07 when they went 3.31 with a 3.55 option.
Only if you get a different final drive Ratio. The Rear end they put on came with 3.73 final drive ratio, vs. the 3.31 that I believe is stock, as such they would need to retune. If you don't get a different gear ratio then you won't need a retune.
the only thing that will be affected is your speedometer. I believe if you get the same ratio gearing in the dif as the stock unit regardless of your new dif's size the speedo and such will be fine. But you won't need to change your ecu. That is done if you do something direct with the motor ie: intake, exhaust, cams, headers, compression ratio, power adder, nitrous, blah blah blah. Good luck hope I helped
Nope, not without doing some grinding. I've asked that question. With severe modifications yes you can, but, with modifications you can do anything to your car. LOOL
no.... it helps with putting power down to the road, as the 8.8 is beefier and can handle more torque and horsepower... when you increase the horsepower, upgrading the differential (rear end) is a must, as they get easy to break... the vid explains... try listening

"....does not increase your engines hp...."
but yes RWHP will increase.
I wonder what's the least HP loss someones got out of a FE/RWD car ? ? ?
That would be a cool TV challenge!

teh rear end does not increase your engines hp. but the 8.8 will handle more hp if you decide to make your engine more powerful.

@docstruthers well it does give you more RWHP over the open diff as well as a lot better handling
