  • last flight for a while - these guys have more character n their little fingers than the entire body of those who shut down our space expeditions. Hope to see it again in my lifetime.

  • How do they Navigate from space to a point on earth?

  • It really glides like a brick

  • Hats up to those who are doing a phenomenon Intelligent Job up there..my daughter watching this for a few minutes says.. they must be very close to Jesus!!!...:)) God Bless all of you out there and yes Jesus our Saviour is near so call on Him anytime!!!

  • Interesting - the HUD goes yellow when the heading is precisely zeroed! First time I've seen that.

  • awesome landing after a 5.7 million-mile flight!

  • heard this when i was in my house and sounded like a basketball hit the roof of the house twice

  • that is so cool

  • -_-

  • Why shuttle is burning when it is flying from space back to earth? Why is it's speed so great. Can it fly slowly? Is gravitational pull is so trong that increase the speed of the shuttle when it's returning back to the atmosphere? Does the same happens to the space tourism crafts?

  • The shuttle has great speed while in space because otherwise it will not stay in orbit.

To land, they need to reduce speed and "fall" back to Earth by turning the shuttle around and firing the engines. They takes fuel. They don't have very much fuel left so the de-orbit burn doesn't slow them very much. Instead they let the atmosphere slow them down.

The reason it gets hot is simply put all that energy that is the shuttle's speed (momentum) being transfered to the atmosphere.

  • did you graduate high school?

  • you arrogant pig.

  • lol calm down but its all basic stuff

  • the space shuttle is burning up because of friction. when u rub ur hands together, they feel hot because of friction. the same is here the surface of the space shuttle is rubbing against air/

  • @chillaxer1993 This actually is not so - the air in front is compressed tremendously - it can't get out of the way in time because the shuttle is moving so fast. The compressed air heats up, like in a bicycle pump vigorously operated. There really isn't enough air in the upper atmosphere to create much heat from friction, and by the time the SS gets low, it's not going that fast.

  • right..

all it takes to do some very basic investigations. We have the Internet, radio, computer, TV and we are the most dumbest people on the face of the planet, that is the United States Citizens. Why, because we have become too damn conformable with our selfs and the government telling us how it is, not to mention mainstream lie media. Really, do the investigation, the tools are there, but of course many people rather go to sleep, watch TV and get a potato chip.

  • why is it that you do not know this..because colleges and universities do not educate on this information. They create the matrix of dumbing down people while the elite rich people do educate their children about this, but overall the public citizens of people are kept out of the loop. Usually the elite train their children to remain in power, to run, and create wars and keep many of the secrets many of the people are kept from...

  • so wake up people... We would like to believe that our government wants to create paradise, but wars are just that, to get many europeans, white elites rich based on the blood of the defenseless, which are the third world nations. The rich elites kill people, colored people on other nations, so that we can have the space shuttle and get the elites to buy land on the moon. Wars are money generators, profits, corporate profits, mineral, resources, the colored third nations are sacrificed.

  • But the department of defense keeps many secrets, UFO activity, many space astronauts are kept from disclosing sightings and we the public are not told. They get most of the money from defense, because they have the most money. for every dollar we spend, the invest about 75 cents on defense. Defense is prime in America, health care, education, and public relations are last. The space program is a huge money amount. Health care, who cares, let them die...

  • Nasa = Department of Defense! Why the department of Defense?

  • No really...NASA is military, It falls under the Department of the Military. Much of the stuff they see in space, like UFO activity, they do not tell us or they doctor pictures before they release to public. I'm not saying that going to space is not a feat, it is, but there things the public should know that they keep very secret. And by the way, now the elites are buying areas in the moon. Peaces of terrain that they have no right to...

  • I did not know that. I do know my cousin was the one taking all photos on the shuttle, along with piloting it. So, you're saying that some of the things that he photographed, won't be shown to the public? I guess I'm naive in that way.....I wonder what they are keeping secret?

  • There is a lot of space activity outside the earth, inside the earth which we are not shown. Many of those photos are blotched. When they take photos it has to go through certain people before they are releases or displayed to public. You can always ask your cousin. But the reason the space program falls under the department of defense is because the U.S spends about 1000 billion a year to protect america, yet 911 as a failure.

  • Yes, I will have to ask Kevin about that....it's something I never thought to talk about. Thank you!

  • Dont waste your time asking Kevin that. He's going to tell you the same thing I am. That kids out of his mind ! Worked with Kevin at KSC. Very nice gentleman !

He's the kind of guy that would have his picture next to the definition of pilot in the dictionary.

  • Thank you, Mach25man. Kevin and I talked quite a bit about the photography, as that's what I do full-time. But what he did with a camera up there, is so much greater than I'll ever do down there. Do you have a first name? I'll have to mention this to Kevin. I haven't heard from him since last Thursday.....so I don't know how long it will be until I do. I'm just glad they landed safely!!

  • I want to remain anonymous on this thing. He wont remember me because in the course of their training they meet a 1000 people. Mention CEIT to him and he will know what I'm talking about. He spent two days doing it at KSC.

  • the whole SoCal felt the landing I'm glad they are back safely

  • This is a NASA video and you have marked it as yours on the video?

  • Fantastic! ☆☆☆☆☆

  • always exciting to see them coming home

  • What's exciting about it? They were just in space?? When's the last time you did that? My cousin was the pilot for this mission, and I'm so proud of him!!!!! DISCOVERY did an amazing job on this mission, and I'm so glad they made it home safely!!

  • Wow! Please introduce me to your family! It's an Honor to be part of the leading team representing all Humanity and rational thinking from this corner of the galaxy!!!

  • Nice sarcasam.

  • Wow, you're Kevin Ford's cousin? nice. Glad that they made it back safe and sound after a successful mission.

  • Yes, I am Kevin's 1st cuz (his mom and my dad are brother and sister). It's been such a great moment for all of us too! We're so proud! And we got emails from him, from up in space, letting us know how he was, and the crew. It was just his dream come true! And they all had a safe return, which was so important.

Thank you for the nice comment!

  • Is not sarcassm! Is the truth, I would be honored to work with you. I am visual artist and photographer from Bogotá, Colombia, South America.

  • I'm sure he enjoyed it the most. In the interviews, he said he was looking forward to do the flyaround around the ISS, should they have enough propellant for it. And they did. It's a shame I couldn't make it to the launch (I was going to FL to see it), but, all in all, a wonderful mission. Let's hope I can get to see Discovery take off before the program ends. It's my favorite orbiter.

  • Yes, Kevin had to have enjoyed ALL the different things he did up there.....just amazing. A dream come true. He had been at NASA since 2000, and waited and trained for the pilot position - and it looks like it was def. well worth it! :)

  • that would be so cool to hear the double sonic booms!!!

  • hahah i heard the sonic boom i was outside waitng and everyone ran out (long beach CA)

  • Its amazing to realize that, that thing just came from outer space!

  • welcome home discovery

  • Living in LA area, the double sonic boom sounded like gunshots.

  • lol

  • Booms at 2:53....

a friend of mine in SoCal told me they were unbelievably loud today, scared him half to death!

  • it was loud it sounded like a bomb lol

  • holy crap man i though it was gun shots when i heard it.

    (the sonic boom)

it scared the shit outa me!
