After eight years of downsizing and declawing government while pumping up financial deregulation and inventing spooky derivatives it's a little disingenuous of our beloved Republican legislators to "just say no" to the obvious (and obviously painful) fixes needed.
In Congressional hearings they (both parties, oddly) are trying to get anyone not certifiably dead during the Bush Administration to admit some degree of guilt for the whole shebang.
We DO need the repubilicans to work with Mr. Obama, but with the way the media portrayed us as the devil in the 08 election, it's gonna be hard for the Dems (Who now control all of the government) to actually work with us. But I guess anything that goes amiss in the next 4-8 years, we can blame it all on the Dems, am I right? Blame game doesnt get us anywhere..
Fair enough. But it goes the other way as well. If the Republican Party continues to say "NO" to just about everything that President Obama proposes, and he does manage to turn the country around anyway, they're going to be in a LOT of trouble in November of 2010. They don't have to agree with him on everything, but they should respect the will of the voters and give the guy a little breathing room in his first weeks in office.
But it's hard for republicans to go with him, because he wants to spend so much money, and then some, and slowly turn us socialist, which is clearly what he's doing. Government helping people by taking from others who earned it. Some people actually want us to remain Capitalist, ya know.
I don't think he wants to spend so much money, I think he finds himself in a position where he HAS to spend the money. If you take over a business where the pipes have burst, the roof is leaking, you have a rat problem and he furnace just exploded you have to spend money or go out of business. And that's the position he finds himself in today. I have every confidence in the ability of American's to pay off our debt once we get our economy fired up again with good old fashioned Capitalism.
Yeah, I agree. But some of the stupidest things are in his stimulus. He has few million for volcanic detection? I think he needs to practice what he preaches, and do some earmark reform. I think if he REALLY wanted change, he would get rid of companies who are the REAL culprits behind our economy (AIG, Fannie May, Freddie Mac, democrats forcing loans, people who took out loans who couldnt afford etc) and start over with NEW businesses, and dont dump money into a problem, hoping to fix it.

Even Europe is going back to capitalism after their experiment in socialism. Add to that the fact that the USSR failed, and it is clear that socilaism (I could correct that, but why bother?) is a crock. If only the Democrats and president in the U.S would wise up...
BTW, communist China has embraced capitalism, so don't even try that argument!

After eight years of downsizing and declawing government while pumping up financial deregulation and inventing spooky derivatives it's a little disingenuous of our beloved Republican legislators to "just say no" to the obvious (and obviously painful) fixes needed.
In Congressional hearings they (both parties, oddly) are trying to get anyone not certifiably dead during the Bush Administration to admit some degree of guilt for the whole shebang.
A lot of the guilt resides with Congress.

We DO need the repubilicans to work with Mr. Obama, but with the way the media portrayed us as the devil in the 08 election, it's gonna be hard for the Dems (Who now control all of the government) to actually work with us. But I guess anything that goes amiss in the next 4-8 years, we can blame it all on the Dems, am I right? Blame game doesnt get us anywhere..

Fair enough. But it goes the other way as well. If the Republican Party continues to say "NO" to just about everything that President Obama proposes, and he does manage to turn the country around anyway, they're going to be in a LOT of trouble in November of 2010. They don't have to agree with him on everything, but they should respect the will of the voters and give the guy a little breathing room in his first weeks in office.

But it's hard for republicans to go with him, because he wants to spend so much money, and then some, and slowly turn us socialist, which is clearly what he's doing. Government helping people by taking from others who earned it. Some people actually want us to remain Capitalist, ya know.

I don't think he wants to spend so much money, I think he finds himself in a position where he HAS to spend the money. If you take over a business where the pipes have burst, the roof is leaking, you have a rat problem and he furnace just exploded you have to spend money or go out of business. And that's the position he finds himself in today. I have every confidence in the ability of American's to pay off our debt once we get our economy fired up again with good old fashioned Capitalism.

Yeah, I agree. But some of the stupidest things are in his stimulus. He has few million for volcanic detection? I think he needs to practice what he preaches, and do some earmark reform. I think if he REALLY wanted change, he would get rid of companies who are the REAL culprits behind our economy (AIG, Fannie May, Freddie Mac, democrats forcing loans, people who took out loans who couldnt afford etc) and start over with NEW businesses, and dont dump money into a problem, hoping to fix it.

I take it that you don't live anywhere near a volcano? I agree with you that he needs to get out his "scalpel" with the earmarks thing. You can't just get rid of the companies you mentioned. The world economy would collapse if AIG went under (and it CAN happen-- just look at Iceland!)

No, but where I do live is Michigan, the worst economically in the country, and I still can't even think about Mr Obama doing what he promised, he's so all over the place, I wish he'd talk to someone with out his Teleprompter, and give us the stone hard facts about what he's doing/gonna be doing..

The government will end up taxing every one directly or indirectly. (Sales tax, death tax, import tax, income tax)
Tax the $250,000 + businesses ect.. they will just add the tax expence onto the cost of goods to which the consumer buys.
