Gosh, I use to love this show as a child. The movie is so silly, I can hardly get through it. The show wasn't a comedy. It's was serious and cool. The movie is really goofy.

The Green Hornet doesn't impress. Even as a mindless diversion, it's weak. In fact, it's less of a superhero movie than a vehicle for its lead actor, Seth Rogen, who might have been better advised not to resurrect The Green Hornet in his own image.

Plus two great actors at their best chops. May not be as 'noir' or 'mystery' as the serial, but come on, compare it to what they did to Will Eisner's ghost! He is probably STILL rolling over in his grave!!!! I will see this the weekend it is here!

What were the producers thinking? Did they even watch any episodes of the original TV show? This kid Jay Chou is good, but he's no Bruce Lee. Nobody is. But that's not the real problem here. Apparently everyone is forgetting that Film is a form of Art, and Art is about self expression. This movie is a interpretation from the Directors viewpoint, the actors also bring some originality to the table. I'm a fan of the Comic Series and I'm looking forward to seeing Seth as the Green Hornet. Just as if a different comic writer decided to take the comic in a new direction, this movie is going in a new direction. If you like it, you like it! If you hate it..then for fucks sake get over it!
I'd rather see an adaptation of the new Green Hornet comic with the son and daughter of the original Green Hornet and Kato taking up the mantle. It has a nice balance of darkness and some light humor.
If anyone hasn't seen the 2006 short film by French director Aurélien Poitrimoult you should check it out. For a film made on a shoe string budget it's very good. Just do a search on Youtube for Green Hornet Aurélien Poitrimoult and you can find it posted a few times by different accounts.
If anyone is wondering, the song in the beginning is called dinner time by Royce da 5'9 and busta rhymes, while the rock song that plays during the rest of the trailer is called rise up by cypress hill
This movie looks fucking sick. I'm a fan of the old show with Bruce Lee. Not sure Seth Rogen is good for the part. I think he's great though, but I'll see how he does in the movie. I'm sure he'll kick ass.

very successful? well lets see, according to box office mojo, it made about 48 million domestically, and about 98 million world wide. it had a 30 million dollar production budget, and another 20-30 million added for advertising costs. half the money goes to the theaters, and half back to the studio. no, thats not terribly successful at all. but lets be nice to hornet and say it does exactly as well as KickAss did. they still will be about 60 million shy of breaking even.
today, i went to the theater to watch Harry Potter. I cried at the previews because Jay Chou popped up on the silverscreen in an American theater AND he's not a side character. Happy to see this day.

It does not matter how much technology,special effects,CGI,3D,etc. Seth Rogen is too much of a dork to be taken seriously. He is the same pathetic douch he plays in all his movies. Hollywood has to take a cue from "MARVEL",they really go through a lot of screening tests to find the right actor for the right character.

Even that can be rather deceptive, because do you know how they more than likely gathered that audience. they went up to people on the street and said "would you like to see a new seth rogen movie?" and if they said yes they brought them to the screening. so a bunch of seth rogen fans, so didnt pay for tickets, liked a seth rogen movie. what does that mean?

Scott Pilgrim had great test screenings from what I've heard. that film still didn't do well. By the time Hornet premieres in theaters, about 150 million will have been spent on it. it will have to make that much just to break even, and do it in January.
@TheAmazingstarman rogen hasn't had a hit since pineapple express. every single movie hes starred in since then has underperformed. It's also a superhero comedy, which apart from "The Mask" have NEVER been financially successful. no matter how you do the math, this film is not going to be a hit.

I'd rather see an adaptation of the new Green Hornet comic with the son and daughter of the original Green Hornet and Kato taking up the mantle. It has a nice balance of darkness and some light humor.
If anyone hasn't seen the 2006 short film by French director Aurélien Poitrimoult you should check it out. For a film made on a shoe string budget it's very good. Just do a search on Youtube for Green Hornet Aurélien Poitrimoult and you can find it posted a few times by different accounts.

This movie looks fucking sick. I'm a fan of the old show with Bruce Lee. Not sure Seth Rogen is good for the part. I think he's great though, but I'll see how he does in the movie. I'm sure he'll kick ass.

whether someone regards it as good or not is up to personal taste, and not really the issue I'm arguing. I'm just glad that it won't do well financially, and will be a quickly forgotten disgrace to the character, just like The Spirit, Elektra, Land of the Lost, Wild Wild West, Judge Dredd, Steel, and every other film that tried to adapt an existing property by desecrating the original material, and slapped its fans in the face.

very successful? well lets see, according to box office mojo, it made about 48 million domestically, and about 98 million world wide. it had a 30 million dollar production budget, and another 20-30 million added for advertising costs. half the money goes to the theaters, and half back to the studio. no, thats not terribly successful at all. but lets be nice to hornet and say it does exactly as well as KickAss did. they still will be about 60 million shy of breaking even.

If you remember the show, Brit reid was actually kind of dorky AND did'nt have Martial Art skills,Kato did and Kato developed the weaponry!look at a old GH show and you'll see what I'm talking about.I'm sure the Movie will be Pretty Damn Good!

@DevilofcompleteDark Actually Bruce Lee was Kato, and Van Williams was The Green Hornet. Another thing was the fact that Britt Reid's father was called Dan Reid and not James, hence stating the fact that the Green Hornet was a descendant (grandnephew) of the Lone Ranger.

@paulpanhook , I am 50 and this movie looks like a spoof of The Green Hornet. It does not matter how much technology,special effects,CGI,3D,etc. Seth Rogen is too much of a dork to be taken seriously. He is the same pathetic douch he plays in all his movies. Losing 30 lbs was never the issue to play The Green Hornet the proper way. Hollywood has to take a cue from "MARVEL",they really go through a lot of screening tests to find the right actor for the right character.

Even that can be rather deceptive, because do you know how they more than likely gathered that audience. they went up to people on the street and said "would you like to see a new seth rogen movie?" and if they said yes they brought them to the screening. so a bunch of seth rogen fans, so didnt pay for tickets, liked a seth rogen movie. what does that mean?

@TheAmazingstarman but even assuming that the test screening audience wasn't selected in that way, and it really is getting glowing test screening reviews from more objective audiences, does that mean anything? Scott Pilgrim had great test screenings from what I've heard. that film still didn't do well. By the time Hornet premieres in theaters, about 150 million will have been spent on it. it will have to make that much just to break even, and do it in January.

@TheAmazingstarman rogen hasn't had a hit since pineapple express. every single movie hes starred in since then has underperformed. It's also a superhero comedy, which apart from "The Mask" have NEVER been financially successful. no matter how you do the math, this film is not going to be a hit.

@TheAmazingstarman to do that, this movie needs to be getting Dark Knight, Iron Man, or Green Lantern level buzz. It hasn't been getting anything close to that. Apart from this recent development with good test screenings (which, as ive said, may or may not be stacked in the movies favor, and which STILL hasn't made any noise for the film in the mainstream media) the film has had no positive buzz whatsoever. I just can't see this film being a hit.
