And as for economic management? WTF? The Chinese and to a lesser degree India, have been sucking up our resources at a phenomenal rate. A semi-retarded monkey could take care of this economy.
That's just idiotic. I'll never understand why Australians enjoy bashing Howard so much without looking at his accomplishments. He has been an excellent leader.
Phhhht... and while there is dolts like you around, the country will never get ahead...bloody sad!
Howard will always be remembered as a murderer, as a gutless rat that tried to sell us out to the US, a wee man that lied and deceived his way through 11 years. Worst of all, he stole from the working man whilst relying on them to prop up the economy.
You think Rudd is going to bring you a revolutionary new US policy? His pulling to combat troops out of Iraq was clearly just an election stunt, since he's leaving behind non-combat personnel and leaving the troops in Afghanistan - where they're DYING! So if it's the US you have a problem for, Rudd certainly isn't your savior.
As for the economy, I don't need to tell you how well it's done over the past few years. Not to mention when Howard opted to intervene in East-Timor in 1999, he made one of Australia's most important (and most correct!) foreign policy decisions in this nation's history. You just bash for the sake of bashing.
Rubbish!! He was elected in 1996 and didnt intervene until 1999 - he had three years do do so! He ONLY intervened because he had the then prospective custodians of ET (Gusmao and Horta) over a barrel. Literally. It was only with some fairly nasty dealings over Timor Gap oil that Australia intervened. The Timorese sure found THAT out the hard way!
I'm well aware of that, and I was referring precisely to that. A good leader knows not only how to act, but when to act at a time that it will best serve the interests of his people. John Howard's decision to intervene in East Timor and thus both secure the right of self determination for the East Timorese and a share of the Timor Gap oil for Australia was possibly the best foreign policy decision made by an Australian Prime Minister in the past few decades.
Well...if you really feel and believe that mate, then I couldnt possibly argue this topic further, other than to say it's precisely that selfish 'I want more cash, more personal wealth' argument (under the guise of What's Good For The Country' of course) that has been the downfall of this country. Rudd may not be any better (I vote Green), but it's somewhat of a positive step. *Agrees to disagree, shakes hands and walks away*
...I miss Johnny... :( ...I WANT HIM BACK! COME BACK TO US JOHNNY! COME BACK!
