After being exposed to an episode of "Jersey Shore", I needed to hear a work like this to make me proud of the accomplishments of Western civilization once again. Thanks for the video and many, many thanks to Handel.
He is a divine singer, she is a voice of an angel. this is a very radical and inspired opera of Haendel, this is a memorable production... Everything seems to be from another heaven
Even in our modern times, this music is astonishing and deeply moving.
[Referring to Handel]: "He is the father of us all." Haydn [1732-1809] "...knows better than any one of us...he can strike like a thunderbolt." [Mozart 1756-1791]
"The monarch of the musical kingdom. The greatest composer that ever lived." Beethoven [1770-1827]
@frodenberg =) though I admit, that would be interesting anyway to see, I mean their expressions are so intense and the emotion in palpable, especially within the chorus
@vonzigle I'm sorry you feel that way. I think the image Sellars creates here is stunning and the fact that they can't even look at each other makes it all the more painful and heartwrenching to watch. They are like two angels ascending into the sky. What he did with this oratorio is utterly beautiful and beyond words.
@bit391 yes, they are. im guessing the way their seats are made to look like crosses, they are really suppose to be crucified in the original libretto.

staggering music. i was fortunate enough to see this peter sellars production. i think it's probably the single greatest eveing i ever spent in the theatre. thank you for posting.

their expressions are so beautiful, so telling... they could be dressed in potato sacks, it would still be marvelous!

The singing and the orchestral parts are beautifuland sensitive.
Peter Sellars' setting is a downer. Having the two principals separated from each other, stationary, and strapped to couches is downright bizarre.
Nonetheless, the music saves it...
