  • Jesse is that DUDE on guitar, but why are people so surprised that Prince can shred?

  • Jesse is a better guitar player than Prince, Prince as songwriter is on different planet than Jesse.

  • DAYUM!!!!!!!!!! I have to say, Jesse, and Prince (yes, Prince can shred, too) are two of the BADDEST MOFOS on guitar!!!!! Wish I could have seen this live!!!!!! I need to catch up on Jesse's solo albums he did. Word has it that the man kills it also when it comes to the BLUES!!!! Thanks for posting this!!!

  • Some good leads...I'm just saying he's not as good as a lot of his fans(who don't even play) make him out to be...case in point have you ever heard another guitarist cite prince as an influence or even someone they like to listen to? Joe satriani in an old interview talked about his use of distortion and the way he would use multiple tracks do simple guitar parts...listen to "strange" on his

  • I gave the dandy props for his entertaining showmanship...I've seen him live several times back in the day when he was young and hungry and yes he changed popular music...props for that too...I'm just saying as a guitarist he's not that good...I went to those shows to see prince the guitarist and left disappointed...sadly his fans seem to care more about his playing than he does

  • I gave the dandy props for his showmanship and entertainment value...to me he was a better entertainer than MJ...I'm speaking strictly from a guitarist standpoint...the dude is simply not that good...and as I said on that earlier stuff his and the time that's dez...I saw him EVERYTIME he came to Atlanta and his guitar playing never really jumped out at me and I was going to see him play...not for the "show"....but I left disappointed...I'm not saying on record that he hasn't played some good le

  • Because HE knows he's not that good..yeah he looks cool playing because he probably spent hours practicing his moves in front of a mirror...ask yourself this...how many hours do you think Hendrix or ANY other true guitarist practiced in front of a mirror?

  • The bass solo on "I'm yours" is Andre cymone...he's a great performer and showman and once upon a time good songwriter but as a guitarist not that much...his leads lack "soul" and "feeling" to him a guitar is just a tool he uses to help him entertain...think about this...if he's such an awesome guitarist why hasn't he done an album showcasing it?

  • @twblackstone Granted, if Andre played the bass solo, then what of the guitar? The lead guitar riffs on that track are the high points and the style is riff wise is simular to Bambi, treat me so bad and cool. Prince spread himself out too much to be another "stand there like a man" guitarist of the stature of Hendrix. He really had a lot of other things that he brought to the table that changed the face of popular music and culture. Look at the bigger picture.

  • I doubt very seriously prince mentored a guy who was better than him coming in the door...furthermore if you do some checking you'll find that dez Dickerson played the leads on cool and get it up on the times first record...also the lead on Bambi was him...your boy took credit for other peoples playing on his early stuff to help promote his"one man band angle"

  • @twblackstone Proof please. Oh.... you don't have any. Even still the guitar work on album one is better, and more solid than any other Time album that followed it, and its still not Jesse on album one. I saw Prince and Dez live in 82 and the Time opened for them. Prince can hold his own Sir. Look at the youtube stuff with Dez in the band. I saw P play Bambi live and he nailed the solo doc. Jesse's playing has evolved from that time till now and he is excellent at what he does, one of the best.

  • Jesse would disagree with you about P. He is a humble and intelligent guy. As good as he was then and still is, the impact of Prince' artistry and musicianship helped to shape Jesse's overall approach to the game and not the other way around. Today Jesse's overall guitar playing is more soulful and flat out more charismatic than most in the main stream and the crazy thing is that he's not getting props for it. Jesse is on a whole other level and he stands out.

  • Sorry dude I doubt if prince mentored a guy who was better than him coming in the door...furthermore dez Dickerson played lead on cool and get it up...as a guitarist you can recognize the style of a guy you like..like Stevie ray..even though his sound is reminiscent of Hendrix...you can still tell its Stevie ray...the same with your boy...prince was mostly influenced by Carlos Santana...theres really not a lot of feeling in his playing...dez played that bambi solo as well...prince took a lot of

  • @twblackstone Dez is credited for his guitar work on Little red corvette and he himself acknowledged his writing efforts on the Vanity Six album, but never has he admitted to playing on the Time's first album. The style of guitar on little red is not the same as Get it up and cool or Bambi. Also Dez is outspoken and not afraid to say what his contribution was to that era. He never took credit for that early P guitar stuff in his book or in interviews. Little Red made the top 100 guitar solo's.

  • Prince is an AWESOME guitarist..... but I do agree that Jesse can play his ass off!! don't get it twisted, prince is a musical ginius, the time Are The COOLEST

funk band the is/was.... the are both paying thier proper respects the the REAL man on guitar...... Jimi Hendrix.......

  • Matter of fact has ANYONE seen prince just stand there like a man and give you all the guitar player he's got?

  • Sir Prince is beyond that. We must understand P's struggle because in 1978-79, no black men blazing lead guitar were getting any respect. He was label mates with the likes of Eddie Van Halen, as well as others and was never recognized for his guitar chops, which at the time and for his age were awesome. Prince helped paved the way and helped closed the gap, because the bias at that time thick and black funk rockers got no respect for their guitar playing.

  • @hippyblood4 i saw that and was unimpressed...dude I'm a fan of prince but his guitar playing lead wise is not all that...again Jesse plays LEGENDARY style lead...prince is a poser...he knows how to stand and look good holding one but a true to the heart guitarist he is not...Dez was better too...I think he gets rid of any guitarist he knows is better than him...IMO

  • @twblackstone Sir with all due respect Prince is a great guitarist in his own right. His guitar work on Bambi, I'm Yours, Why you wanna treat me so bad, are incredible and as far as style and technique are concerned, those scorching solos still stand the test of time. Matter of fact, the guitar solos on the first Time album are all Prince. The Get it up and Cool guitar solos are Prince and not Jesse. Both songs have early Prince solo lead style writen all over them. Study the riffs carefully.

  • @twblackstone Also not to be confrontational, the second and third Time albums features Jesse on guitar and the quality of the guitar drops in comparison to the first Time album. I will acknowledge that these days Jesse is very under rated and arguably will give anybody playing that Hendrix style of "bluesy rock" a run for their money hands down. Jesse is boss on "that" stuff but bro, don't get it twisted, Prince mentored this guy and fed Jesse's hunger to get better at his craft.

  • This what I'm talking about. Whenever Prince tried this rendition it didn't sound right, but Jesse will show you how it's done.

  • "Cut 'em Jesse!"

  • EVERYNE LOOKS AS OF THEY WERE HAVING A GREAT TIME...HOW COULD THEY NOT!?....I THINK I NEED TO SEE JESSE 4 A TUNE-UP!... :D

  • Jesse's still got it

  • Yknow...Jesse was ALWAYS a better pure guitar player prince...prince always had to twist his ass and gyrate instead of just standing in the pocket like a man and just burn...Jesse plays legendary style guitar...but he should 2 of his heroes were Hendrix ..Michael schenker...I waited for years for one of those Minneapolis cats to do a real guitar album...for those of you that don't know....yeah Jesse just put out Verbal Penetration...but if you want to hear him with a harder edge..if you can fin

  • @twblackstone evidently u didn't see (hear) P's solo on "my guitar gently weeps" which he learned in 20 mins. and broke 2 strings. No twisting........just killin' that axe. And P's style is more like Santana than Hendrix. more melodic than dirty, but he can get dirty. eye've seen him fix his stompboxes manually many times without missing a beat.. The man can play. if u like jesse better thats fine, but don't say the man can't play

  • I was sitting right next to this person who filmed this with Jesse slamming his axe, he was simply awesome !!! GREAT CONCERT, sad too, it was the last time I seen Teena Marie, R.I.P. Lady T...Dj Tony Rome in the "D"...

  • @djtonyrome1958 I Agree Tony I Was in the Middle section on the Edge of the Bacony Jesse Was Cuttin So Bad The House Was Bleeding

  • Bro. is still a bad mofo!

  • That song sounds like "In the Kitchen" of the Pandemonium CD. Cut 'em Jessie.

  • @Msumner316 You mean Skillet?

  • @MrAiden3121

I stand corrected. It's been awhile since I had that CASSETTE. They were a very under rated band. In a Rolling Stone interview Prince was asked if he ever felt intimidated by any other artists out there. His reply was The Time. I know he and Morris are blood and he was probably just giving props to a hometown band but I do think he has much respect for what the Time is capable of.

  • @Msumner316 That`s reue. He was intimidated also because of jimmy jam and terry Louis too...lol And Jesse. The time`s band could have all done their own thing back then and probably all been successful.

  • Awesome... Sit back and get some learnin'
