@TheDeserteagle51 Well, you'd have to scale it. You could probably go as high as 720x540 without too much loss of image quality. Look at the top bar on gimp and find where is says "Image", then select "Scale Image". Where it says "Image Size", type in the resolution you want and make sure the little chain thing that's right next to it in clicked (you'll know because it'll appear attached). Then select "Scale". Hope that helped!
@ltballsack123 You mean how did I take a picture of myself? I used a digital camera. If you mean how to open the picture in Gimp: you just open Gimp, go to file>open, and find whatever picture you want to open.
@jonaden5 If you follow this tutorial exactly, than it most certainly will work. Did you add a new layer and set the color to black? Did you set the mode of that layer to screen? If you did and the screen is still black, than you must be doing something wrong.
@jonaden5 The process shouldn't be that different between versions. I don't have the new Gimp and I have no plans to download it because I don't use it that often anymore. Even if I did, I no longer have a proper screen capture program to record a tutorial with. If my video didn't help you, than you'll just have to look for a different tutorial.
@Kratos87Fan19 Just did this in newest version of GIMP. Works perfectly fine. Dude did something wrong somewhere. I would be he forgot to set his layer mode to screen.
@CrazyChuck101 In gimp? Sure, you'll need Quicktime Pro to convert the video into individual frames, do the effect for each frame, then re-compile them in Quicktime Pro to make the video. Then, you'll need to use a video editing program to add the sounds effects (which you can find by google searching). Although, I'd recommend Adobe After Effects or Blender to do the effects as they will look much better.
@thebouncerplayer The poster frame, no you have to export the entire video to image sequence. That would create a picture for every frame of footage. Take for instance a video that's 5 seconds long with a framerate of 24 frames per second: that would be about 120 frames thus 120 pictures. You'd have to do the effect for all the pictures, not just the poster frame. Before you do that however, be sure to create a folder to put them in, you don't won't all those pics cluttering up your desktop.
@thebouncerplayer FPS = Frames Per Second. Film in the theater runs at 24 FPS, NTSC DVD runs at about 29.97 to 30 FPS, and PAL DVD runs at 25 FPS.
I'm on a Mac, so I'm not sure how Quicktime works on Windows. Open the video in quicktime, select 'Window' and then select 'Show movie inspector'. That will tell you the FPS for that video.
@BNbeachboy123 With Quicktime Pro, export a video of someone fighting with sicks or whatever as an image sequence to a folder on your desktop. That turns every frame into a single picture. Then import the pictures into Gimp and do the lightsaber effect like in this video. After you're finished, open Quicktime and tell it to open image sequence. Be sure to select the same FPS as the original video, and export it. Then put it into a video editing program like iMovie or WMM for the sound effects.
@thebouncerplayer How do you export a video as an Image Sequence? Open the video in Quicktime Pro, and then just select 'Image Sequence' in the 'Export' drop down menu. Then select 'Options' and choose what format to use (Jpeg, PNG, etc).
Hmm - that makes it look easy even if it takes a while. By first looking at GIMP, it doesn't work like Paintshop Pro or other similar programs, until you know how to use it. I don't... :)
What are you on to do the lightsaber gimp.
