  • This was one of the coolest parts of this movie.

  • I love her! The movie came out the year I wa born so she is my fav. ;) she would be even if it wasn't.

  • She's my favorite Disney girl because she wasn't a princess... she was a real girl. <3

  • I <3 this.....I'm doing my XMA sword routine to this.....I don't know if I can live up to the epicness of this song though xD.

  • The trumpets...give me chills every time...

  • I think this is when I fell in love with synth and anything to do with synth.

  • On my CD this is called Haircut, Mulan's Decision is from another scene and is different.

  • 1:00 She changes...

  • I didn't really feel the full effect of this when I was younger, as I didn't really understand the Asian Ancestor Worship. But looking back on this, I find it extremely poignant. So desperate is she to protect her father and earn honor for her ancestors that she is willing to go to a bloody and deadly war, even with the threat of death if discovered hanging over hear head.

She is definitely my favorite "Disney Princess."

  • @TortugaBreen There's also the fact that she cut her hair. I read somewhere that in Ancient China, people keep their hair long to show respect to their ancestors. To cut it means that you're cutting your ties to your ancestors and it's considered disrespectful. Not to mention she's a girl. Most girls are very attached to their hair.

  • I'm gonna download this song to my ipod and lift weights like a beast to it.

  • i always wonder how Mulan gets her hair up like that, not only is it a perfect bun, but she tied it with a ribbon... DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS OT TIE HAIR WITH RIBBONS!!! phew sorry :)

  • @RobinHoodinSherwood

    MY GOD YES.

  • This gives me the urge to walk to my fridge in slow motion and get a drink epicly and then walk in slow motion to my computer again.

  • @xXDottieLufsYewXx Your comment made me laugh cause that's something I would do xD

  • @xXDottieLufsYewXx

    hahahahaa

  • @xXDottieLufsYewXx LMAO best comment ever. I was all emotional from this video then this XD thanks for the laugh. HAHAHA

  • This is the best disney movie ever.

It saddens me to watch the crappy movies and series nowadays and think that Disney was actually able to make something good and meaningful once.

    Especially this movie <3

  • Please does someone know the title of this canion?

  • THN AGAPWW!

  • Because of her, I cut my hair the same way when I was young haha

  • @salminou77100

    with a....sword?

  • @salminou77100 HOW the hell do they manage 2 make the swords so thin (1:46-1:47)???

  • @BryannaAkins560 don't they just flip it so that the sharp bit is pointing towards their nose LOL

I always wondered how they did that as a kid!! Ahahaha

  • I'm glad to read I'm not the only one who gets chills when I see/hear this part. I've seen the movie a dozen times & have the mp3 of the score, & still, every single time I hear it... chills! Brilliant piece of music. Brilliant movie!

  • I wish Disney channel would show these type of movies than that stupid teen drama!

  • Mulan = most epic Disney "princess" ever

  • I like this song so much I have it on my Ipod.

  • I remember cheering on simba when he fought scar

I remember booing at Ursela when she took Arieal's voice

I remember fighting the Huns with Mulan.

I remember the magic carpet ride with Alladin.

I remember being locked in the Beast's castle.

I remember laughing and having fun with Mickey and his friends.

I don't remember watching teen drama on stupid disney channel

Copy and paste this to all your favorite Disney Videos and let's start a revolution.

    W. Disney forever.

  • This gives me chills, reminds me of my chinese friend who is as beautiful as mulan, she also cut her hair short.. hmm. :D

  • The music in this is so epic, like it's really a great change, not just her looks, but it's really her first independent choice she's made on her own.

  • I want adventure! I want daring swordfights in far off kingdoms! Small towns are fine--I love them, actually. But I want adventure in the great wide somewhere so badly! I want to travel and see and know! Mulan inspires me to fulfill my dream, because if some girl in that time period gets to have adventure, so can I!

  • 22 people wanted the Huns to win

  • 1:31 <3

  • 0:48 Which instrument is this? :O Really like to know!

  • 1:00 is the moment she...changes.

  • Damn, this makes me proud to work hard and become something great!

Mulan is my role model, and I'm 20.

  • I love this movie

  • Watching Mulan makes me even more proud to be Chinese. (Y)

  • Best Disney Movie

  • I used to love Mulan when i was a kid!!

  • I agree with DarkPrince, it's probably my favourite scene from any film bar none.

  • I love it when she pulls the sword out

  • This is the most EPIC scene in the entire movie in my opinion and I think the only reason I like the Make a Man Out of You sequence better at all is because this is so short.

  • I just love the music in this scene :)Such a great score.

  • Comment removed

  • Dude she just cuts those locks like it's nothing!! :O

  • I love the determination that settles in her eyes. Mulan is one of the best Disney movies. It always gives me the chills when I watch this. <3

  • yup, those were the good old epic days of disney...

  • 22 people can't help their father...

  • This is the best scene in the movie. The build up of the music just carries so much emotion! 0:59 sends a shiver up my spine every time.

  • this version of the song is much better than the "instrumental" version

  • i can honestly say that this scene is my favorite scene out of any memorable scenes from any movie ever made. Ever.

  • you would think you would get tired of hearing the same songs over and over again, but every time i hear a disney song my heart opens up and i feel as though i could sit there all day pressing 'repeat'

  • 1:28 How epic isn't that!?!

  • freaking INCREDIBLE movie

  • I love this endless movie!

  • This will always be my favorite scene :)

  • Mulan is truly and hero. She not only did what she felt was right but she risked her life for what she knew was right.

  • I love this scene! =')

  • Such an Epic scene..

  • One of my favorite Disney Films scenes

  • kickass music

  • who the heck are the 21 losers that dislked this!?

  • @ItsDavidMeyer maybe the hunns

  • @julgna lol *high five*

  • @ItsDavidMeyer Poor souls you shouldn't even waste your time thinking about.

  • @UndercoverCracker lol i know right!? :D

  • It's unbelievable how atmospheric this is. Best scene in any Disney movie ever, except maybe the end of the Lion King

  • best instrumental music in a disney movie

  • One of the greatest scenes in all of Disney history.

  • This is the power of music: imagine this entire scene without ANY background music. How awkward that would be

  • This is sooo epic ;D

  • Your decisions in life define who you are...

  • This was the music that was used for my ice skating competition about 4 or 5 years ago. :D

  • i love that Mulan isnt a princess

  • this is my fav part of the movie

mulan has more courage than any of the other disney characters put together

  • I really wish they spent a little more time on this scene, two minutes as it is, it's one of the most brilliant Disney moments ever, but it feels kind of rushed when she transforms into a soldier, they dedicate only about 40 seconds towards that.

  • @TheIrishEnigma I honestly think it's best as being short, that they didn't put too much into it; short and epic.

  • @TheIrishEnigma I disagree. This moment has so much power and combined with the music, those few seconds are all it needs to convey the emotion.

  • @TheIrishEnigma I think why it was kinda rush was because she had to do everything quickly and she didn't want to awake her parents. if this film put too many emphasis on this part, it would become weird. anyway, this is also my fav part =)

  • @w200239268 and animation its a must- recomend job

  • My mother always told me and my sister about an ancient story about the woman: Mulan. My sister loved that story, unlike me...I was a bit bored so... :P.

But aside of that, the moment Disney decided to make a movie about Mulan, she bought the movie and just let watch the tape.

    Result:

me: I never bullied a girl till now ( from elementary school - now )

My sister: spunky feminist ( practising martial arts....wtfbbq?!)

  • @FunKCX That's a nice story (no really.. I'm not being all 'cool story bro'), but is NOT bullying someone really that much of an accomplishment? It seems like kind of the default state of things. MOST people aren't bullies.. right? ;)

  • Such a dark quality at 0:19. I really love this movie, it combines humor, horror, and honor at the same time. The three hs really made me loves this movie and especially this scene. I think its the greatest piece of animation disney has ever done. She's sitting on top of a dragon in the rain despairing because her disabled father is going off to war. Purely poetic and then to make this scene more epic than it already is, she defies him by going off to war in his place. Love it so much man...

  • It's really interesting how the dragons eyes are looking down on her and then a moment later she picks her head up. Is this a coincidence? Looking down and picking yourself up? It seems like a deeply rooted message hidden in the details. Maybe i'm making it up in my head but it just seems that way.

  • @JJHdisney I thought I was the only one!

  • @bunnyanimeluv So did i ty for replying =)

  • I had a family with taste. :) I learned to hate today’s auto tuned crap that apparently qualifies for music, the dumb reality TV that turns innocent kids into sleazy, swearing brats…But I was raised to love 60’s-80’s music and rock, TV shows's like Andy Griffith, M*A*S*H and Star Trek that have real quality, and to love all of the Disney classics. :) In school I am labeled as the weird kid because I respect my teachers and have real taste. :)

Loooooove you old Disney PLEASE COME BACK

  • I like both versions of this song but this is my favorite.

  • Why did Mulan put her comb on her father's bedside table?

  • @qwertasdcfghjklmo24z probably as a sort of goodbye

  • @qwertasdcfghjklmo24z And to tell him where she went (in exchange for the army scroll)

  • Comment removed

  • @qwertasdcfghjklmo24z

    1) Let him know who stole his scroll so he doesn't blame it on the mum

    2) closest thing to a farewelll kiss on the cheek for an chinese daughter

    3) peace offering asking for forgiveness

    4) giving her Dad something to remember her with for the next 18 years

  • @angrybaby I'd say 2 or 4.

  • The music in this scene moved me, such a powerful part of the movie Mulan. I can safely say this scene is my fav. part of the movie, it gives me goosebumps and fills me with so much emotion! I just wanna do something for a very good friend I'm close to.

  • I may have been born in 1996, but this played a GIGANTIC role in my childhood! I remember August 1st 1998, my 2nd birthday and my Mulan cake. Good times...

It's the kids born 2000+ who have it bad, 96,97,98, and 99 still had the good stuff.

  • @10Itoruna My sister who was born in the 2000+ still had it good, we never had Disney channel nor did we want it and Mulan is both our favourite disney girl.

  • @BubbleKimBubble How about you?

  • music kinda sounded like rocky

  • why is my favorite song from my favorite movie not in the usa?

  • Mulan is my favourite movie since awlays. Like the leading comments say sometimes the traditions are wrong. So i downloaded the movie and i never deleted it becouse this is the best of the disney movies. This scene awlays, i mean awlays makes me cry...

  • This scene is even more intense if you know that back then, cutting your hair was disrespectful/disgraceful/illegal.

  • @Kari166 Yes. Like the men, it was illegal to cut it off their head.

  • @MrReneManuel

Actually strictly speaking it wasn't so much illegal as traditionally frowned upon. Confucian teachings and Chinese values of honoring your parents meant you did not throw away what they gave you- in this case your hair. It was a mark of a criminal for example who would have his head shaved for some crimes, or even just his facial hair if you were criminal or a eunuch. But yes, it is intense to see her making that sacrifice for her loyalty to parents. :D

  • @caocaothedeciever Thank you for information.

  • @caocaothedeciever Well, i dont think that the movie was trying to go that deep lol, but good catch

  • *zhumm* O_O "Mulan is gone!"

  • Im proud to be Chinese, this movie, and Mulan will always make me feel proud of my heritage and brave

  • Comment removed

  • This used to be my favorite part. I was obsessed with this movie when I was a kid. I think it was my first epic movie.

  • 17 people aren't willing to cross-dress to save their nation.

  • @RomioneRawr 22 PPL HATE THEIR NATION AND COUNTRY!!!

  • @rocky97100

    How do you figure that?

  • This is by far the best thing Disney has ever created.

  • I still get goosebumps when I watch this scene.

  • This scene and this score never, ever fail to bring tears to my eyes, even if they're just playing in the background.

  • It's 80 degrees outside and I've got some major goosebumps because of this. Thank you Disney. Thank you so much.

  • Love the part where she puts incenece in the tower and music

  • Damn that's one bright ass candle. Excuse the language :x

  • .Jjust tried doing press-ups to this. It felt epic. I failed at it, but it felt epic. xD

  • I freakin love this movie! It's one of the best Disney movies, I think because it's about what you do for your family and it has a great message !

  • Look! I cut my hair! I put on different clothing! Now I'm disguised! AS A MAN!

Sheesh! These movies, they never get called on stuff like this.

  • @DavidMalcolmPorta you clearly haven't seen some amazing drag king acts... although i agree that they cheated and drew her facial features a little differently when she's presenting as a male.

  • @ElijahJamesP - Well, really, what I tried to do was link to Jesse's blog-post on it, which is really funny. But youtube wouldn't allow that, so I made a lame attempt to capture the quality of it. Maybe youtube will let me do the url in this reply. Nope. Well, try sirspamdalot on livejournal.

  • @DavidMalcolmPorta send me a pm with the link... i can't seem to find it.

  • @DavidMalcolmPorta Still better than Clark Kent's idea of a disguise xD

  • @SobekChan LOL! Don't remind me.

  • I love this part!

  • @ThePacificSam Giselle's the main character of the movie Enchanted.

She's not an official Disney Princess, but whatever, she'll always be one to me. :)

  • You kick ass, Mulan!!

  • @pjmonster19 hmm.your right.i forgot about her.

  • @pjmonster19 tousché

  • @ellentheasian lol it's possible that with her long hair, it gives an illusion that her face looks rounder and more feminine when it actually looks more angular. haha. i think disney did a great job animating an, er, androgynous character you would say.

  • most best scene!

  • My favorite Disney movie would have to be the Lion King; but my favorite SCENE from any Disney movie would have to be this one.

  • Want to know why this is my favorite Disney movie?

Because it had the balls to say, sometimes? Your culture and your traditions can be wrong. Sometimes you have to do what you think is right, even and especially when there's heavy risk involved.

This movie wasn't about love being the absolute thing as it was for the other princesses. Hell, Mulan wasn't even royal. It was about what courage means.

I just happen to like that message more than, "love will find a way". Bahaha.

  • @Zauberfloot It was the "bahaha" that made this comment, really.

  • @Zauberfloot well she is kinda the "princess of war"

  • @Zauberfloot well said ::nods head::: well said...

  • @Zauberfloot

When I read that line you mentioned "Love will find a way", I was thinking of Pokemon for some reason. Huh.

  • @Zauberfloot I once found this picture on the internet, that was supposed to be like a letter from Mulan to Aurora. It was like "Dear Sleeping Beauty, I pretended to be a man, went to war and saved a whole country, and all you had to do was wake up."

  • @xPandaBearRawrx I wanna see that! XD

Do you know where that picture is?

  • @kinoshostar I don't remember clearly if it was a picture, or just from an article where someone quoted someone else and I don't remember where I saw it too, but I have to tell you, it was priceless.

  • omg i get such a good pump when the music starts kicking in. Such a powerful scene for a Disney movie

  • epic music :'D

  • Thumbs up if you got goosebumps at :58

  • GOD i love this movie! sorry i keep posting this on EVERY mulan video i watch xD

  • I love Mulan, but everybody saying all the princesses should be like her and all the movies should be like this aren't getting the point. If they were than she wouldn't be special and her story wouldn't be empowering, it would just be pushing an overdone agenda. , Belle likes to read and doesn't care what people think of her, Tiana works hard all her life to get what she wants, they're cool in their own ways :)

  • 17 Huns didn't like this video

  • i would

  • This song always gives me goosebumps <3

  • a heart of pure gold encrusted with courage............she was and still is my favourite Disney animated character

  • I feel sorry for the women back in those days they didn't have nay freedom as we do nowadays

  • Yesterday I went to my friend's house and met her little sister, she was holding a doll of Ariel and I said to her "Ariel's the best princess isn't she! :)" to which she replied "No! Mulan is! I mean sh-she's not a pwincess but she is the best one!". I felt like welling up, I dont know what I was more proud of, the fact that she had an Ariel instead of a Hannah Montana doll, or the fact that Mulan was her favourite. :') Guys I have a feeling the next generation is going to be ok :).. well some.

  • @oldenough15 D: The fact that Hannah Montana even has a doll is what truly disturbs me. D: That's just not right. She isn't "that popular". -__- I blame Disney for that. Mulan was one of Disney's great moments.

  • @oldenough15 tell your friend's little sister that she is right!

  • @1.00 (L)

  • 1.00 (L)

  • 17 people are Huns...

  • do people that don't like mulan even exist?

  • Honestly, I always thought that this movie would have been better without that man Mulan fell in love with(god, I can't even remember his name). It felt like he was put in there only because Disney can never have a woman be strong without a man by her side...

  • @StarxLolita i think disney put him in for the opposite reason really because lets face it Shang's role is not significant in the movie...the msg is even when there' a man by your side, you can still handle things by yourself. Now...if you're talking about the second movie of Mulan then -_-...i agree with everything you say.

  • @StarxLolita Disney has a habit throwing romance into everything. Even TV show series.

  • @StarxLolita his name is shane

  • Mulan was brave..

  • an amazing score and a beautifully executed scene. too bad the clips of the cricket ruined it :/

    anyone else agree??
