I thought "What a strange way to conduct an interview, with peoples bottoms passing by every couple of minutes. " But do you know...it works. It's totally natural and just like he is having a conversation with you. It made me want to stay long enough to listen to him.
All nice "feel good" ideas - i'm not against them - but they are tinkering around at the edges.
The only way to make this a cycling country is to make the laws and road rules favour the cyclist rather than the car driver. Until the government takes a leadership role and does what it needs to do, things will never change. Until the pathetic green strips of paint are replaced by REAL cycle friendly infrastructure and legislation - all this is just fluff.
Can anynoe explain the specific English institutions and shorthands he mentions ? I know about NHS, but not eerybody does. What are National Trust etc. English is a world language, but when essentially talking to the world, some things still need explaining.
Another thing: Is Cycling England working with Olympic committees to promote healthy green transport and splendid exercise as a part of daily life in conjunction with that 2012 occasion ?
With regards the NHS - I work in hospital catering and theres no real encouragment to cycle. Those of us that do, and theres only a few - have really done it off our own back.
Cycle to work schemes dont seem to get off the ground or you have to pay a stupidly high amount into it that its not worth it.
The hospital website also has no cycling info and the cycle parking runs right out by about 10am. People chain bikes to everything.

Sadly it is all talk and no action. England is the worst place I have cycled in and continues to get worse.

OK. National Health Service. National Trust owns lots of important historic buildings and land.
Cycling England works with British Cycling, but not Olympic committees directly. Sustrans is working on what you suggest.

Great interview, that does give some hope.

He talks a lot of sense. It's good to know intelligent articulate people on on 'cyclings' case. We'll get there in the end.
