Nice stuff Jarre, I remember these tunes as a child and they inspire me to compose myself. Somehow I feel they are part of me, I think you unlock certain inner doors with these tunes. Nice work.
Had my first real headphone experience to this piece back in the seventies - big red things with individual volume controls on each earpiece. It's pretty intense with the separation at the beginning of part two and then when the sounds travel through your head from one ear to the other - if you see what I mean.
I was stationed in Germany from June, 76 until 84 my first tour there. In 1976 I purchased my first Jean Michel Jarre, Oxygene album which I still have, and preserve like a museum piece. I strongly believe that Mr. Jarre's music is at least a quatrillion light years ahead of our time. I also have a cd, and the entire recording of the Oxygene production on I Pod. Mr. Jarre is a real genius, and his music will be still heard several hundred years from now.
It's funny listening to this, which I assume is the CD track, as I have always just listened to the vinyl recording and heard every part as part of a whole. I had no idea these 2 parts was really 1, I just heard it as 2 sections of that whole which is Wonderful Oxygené! :)
@37zeus37 "2nd part of 5 allways reminds me of Ravel's Bolero"
It may be that Jarre used Bolero as a basic guide for this part of the song, with doing little change here and there as basically a melody resembles Bolero pretty much, too much to be just a coincidence.
@b00y4kk4 jajajaja... he sido ironico y sarcastico al escribir ese cometario....por supuesto que hay una abismal diferencia entre tener el mp3 y el long play original. i have allways said that electronic musik isnt real music, but after im been listening to jean michel jarre, then i change my mind, this is a masterpiece. i love jean michel jarre!
1978,doing homework all night long at panchito's,listening to this marvellous album, out from a 33 rpm L.P. how the universe was made, kept on going ,extingished and even beyond ,thats my feeling about this music; and i swear, no weed at all, just coffee,
Best use of stereo in a piece of music ever, but for the full effect it has to be heard through headphones, incredible at a time when the electronic instruments were only just appearing
this so cool, its sounds like the music is turning inside out. cant believe this was made in 1977???.. it sounds modern now in 2010. better than that gangland rap that makes people stab each other.
as a child I completely overheard the "music substance" of these pieces... aka keyboard notes played, to me there were just totally weird fantasy trips, especially this one.
But there's a total Bach chorale hidden in all the unreal psychedelic irridescence...
my dad played all his music when i was a kid i'm 41 now my dad has passed away, his music means so much to me now it does something special to you, you can't explain it.
Ox5 is one of best pieces in modern music history. 20 years ago, I have listened Oxygen and Equinoxe very often, in the dark, every night before I have went to sleep.

i want to say, that jean michel jarre soon aor may bee it now near the Mocart,Bethhoven and other classics.each other aire professional of his style.
