  • the reason he walked away is because he is a mega hipster. But I still love him

  • i've watched/listened to this video maybe 100 times. It is my favorite recording of this song and my favorite song by Sufjan

  • i think i'm in love :**

  • I freaking love blogtheque. The shins, arcade fire, and sufjan?!!

  • him trying to hide his smile at 2:56 kills me. every time.

  • great song, too bad the sound here is awful, it deserved a better recording.

  • this is probably the best thing i have ever seen in my life

  • I love how all of his songs tell a story in such an understated yet emotional way

  • Tears...

  • I love his style of writing and singing and storytelling

  • I love I love

  • goosebumps

  • brb orgasming.

  • yup, jus got a huge boner and my girlfriend next to me wonders why?

  • He's so purely talented, no computers needed. This is fantastic and increasingly rare.

  • that banjo sounds awesome

  • Love this song. Even though it depicts such a traumatic experience, he sings it in such a haunting and beautiful way.

And I love the description of the vid. It gives great insight to Sufjan's character.

  • That's great. The lyrics tumble out effortlessly. It reminds me of "Dry" by William Elliott Whitmore. Well worth a listen if you like this song.

  • i LOVE THIS SONG!! =D <3

  • amazing!

  • Favorite recording of my favorite song

  • amazing!

  • The way the story behind the lyrics is so terrible but his voice sounds so calm is kind of haunting. I love it. :D

  • this video has put into such a good mood =)

  • He's so amazing.

  • wow this song is touching seriously only if life was that easy and smooth as this song makes life sound =)

  • O_o.....Your life must be crazy if you think this song makes life sound easy and smooth. Or you aren't listening to the lyrics.

  • no i listen to the banjo and some lyrics... its the way he plays, i also play music and it never turns out so calm and relaxing even if the lyrics are sad. there is always a story behind the lyrics sad or happy. but Sufjan can make the banjo sound soooo good than the way he uses his voice to make it better

  • But...but...the lyrics go beyond 'sad' and well into the realm of 'horrifying'.

  • true i guess I need to listen to the lyrics more than I do i just really like the banjo and the singing style its amazing how he can pull it off.

  • @TheBoss2332 I think he means how Sufjan turns this scarring memory into a jolly tune..which results in something haunting, really.

  • @forestportal101 You haven't listened to this song properly if you think it depicts an easy life.

  • @forestportal101 seriously, this is a song about realizing your father is having an affair. As fun as that sounds, it's not exactly easy. Don't even leave a comment if you're not paying attention.

  • @forestportal101 I do agree this song has a way of making all the chaos sound somehow serene

  • This is one of his best songs, and to see it performed so intimately is breathtaking.

  • Mr. Stevens will always, always have a special place in my heart. I adore him.

  • definite man crush.

  • I wish life was as beautiful as this video.

  • As If it were that easy.

  • look at the way he strokes the strings... sufjan is my hero

  • so beautiful. both the song and sufjan

  • I have a huge crush like others have said, except I'm a straight guy. That's how good he is. Man crush.

  • Im with you here. Sufjan and Thom Yorke. I want to get close, personal and intimate to find their inner motions.

  • I'm kinda in love with Sufjan and this song

  • sufjan makes me want to learn how to play the banjo.

  • Me too

  • extremely pretentious presentation / story but my favorite song by sufjan stevens

  • Eh whatever, Blogotheque is awesome and provides some real quality videos of great bands in fantastic settings and atmospheres.

  • this is my favorite sufjan song but i think i like this version even better than the studio. i have the biggest, most ridiculous crush on him. aslkdhahahahaa how embarrassing

  • It's okay, I do too. Like, Sufjan is incredible and really hot. What's not to like?

  • me too, and im a guy that usually defines himself as straight...I want him to touch my back and kiss me..

  • not being creepy ...

    Ur doing it wrong

  • hahahahaha completely understandable

  • This song reminds me of Belle & Sebastian. (20 negatives thumbs now) haha Love both

  • So, so, so good.

  • What a beautiful man

  • sufjan is an angel

  • What a f**king genius!

  • Simply amazing

  • why did he just walk away after the song and just leave the camera man sitting there?

  • Read the information in the description.

  • Oh, I see. It's kind of nice to know that such an amazing artist can freak out about performing infront of a camera as much anyone else.

  • I think that is the way of eccentric geniuses. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @laxliver cause its blogotheque, and he's indie as the night thats why

  • undeniably moving

  • so beautiful

  • Godly.

  • i like this version better than when it has the trumpet and guitar.

  • wow!

  • One of the many amazing songs by Sufjan

  • who can answer me these questions 3?

question the first: what kind of mic does blogotheque use?

question the second: what album is this on?

question the third: why dont i have it yet?

thank ye merry gentlemen (and women)

  • This song is from the album "The Avalanche"

  • You don't have it yet cos you're a silly person.

  • since my questions three i have obtained for myself "The Avalanche". Silly like a FOX!

  • Hurrah! Well done you. :-)

  • I ate a stapler once.

  • This man is amazing, hes realy made me think about the music i lisen to.

  • It's so much more natural and beautiful when it's just him. I love the studio version, don't get me wrong. But when it's just him and an instrument (this case the banjo), he tells a much more realistic story, projects it even clearer than the studio version. This, also, doesn't sound as sarcastic as the studio version.

  • This song just has this amazing feel that no other song I have ever heard in my life has had.

  • All of his songs have ceased to be "just music" to me, but have taken a higher glorious form

  • well said

  • think you're right, thanks a lot

  • anybody know what kind of banjo he's playing?

  • Gold Tone I believe. Not sure which kind in this video though, Maple Classic maybe?

  • Never mind, I think it's a Gold Tone CC-100. Almost positive.

  • this is amazing!

    thank you so much!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I saw LaBlogotheque's MusicNow film, and was wondering how to extract this part, but you've already done it. (Although it ends before Sufjan starts whistling down the stairs). But Thanks again! Sufjan is always amazing.

  • Yeah, I cut that out because it goes on a little long and I really just wanted the song(although it's kind of interesting.

  • its depressing if you want it to be. Its these children almost wanting guidance from their father; following him to the place where he has an affair with a woman, and horrified not understanding;yearning for answers. theyre scared. theyre desperate for substance.

  • How is it depressing? Listen to the lyrics man.

  • Other people have different views on lyrics. I'm sure it is depressing to other people. My cousin thought it was depressing for some reason, but I did not bother to argue with her because it was her own thought. And why should I try to change her view on something?

It's just something I thought about.

  • from my impression, I think this song is about a father cheating on his wife and the kids figuring it out, and then their reaction to their discovery

  • this must be the sixth time I've returned to this video.

  • This must be my 50th. :)

  • depressing song, yet an amazing tune

  • This is lovely. Thanks so much for posting.

  • oh my gosh..

    this made me cry.

it was amazing. amazing song. amazing filming.

    he's like a little boy.

    kind of afraid and secretive.

    you captured him really well.

    seriously good job.

  • Very very nice.

  • this is incredible, i wish there were more videos of sufjan like this one. it seems so private

  • Clayterman: Check out the video of him sitting on a fence and playing "For the Widows in Paradise" at SXSW...it's pretty amazing, I think you'll like that one too.

  • yeah i've seen that one as well, and it's also great. the mistress witch is my favorite sufjan song though, so i think i like this one a little better

  • yeah, the mistress witch is by far his best creation. it always sends shudders down my spine. (although, personally, "the predatory wasp of the palisades..." is coming close to second). Do you know where I can go to find out the true implications of this song's lyrics??

  • it's ok sufjan, i am shy too!

  • Wow! I love this song. I'm very happy to find this.

  • I think this is my new favorite Sufjan song. How the hell did it not make it on the Illinoise album? Thank you so much for posting this!

  • it's on avalanche. yea, it reminds me of anecdote by ambulance ltd. great sound.

  • He's just incredible. I love this man's music. He's a poet.

  • My all-time favorite Sufjan song.... awesome :)

  • Me too, and it was on the extras and outtakes album!

  • Sufjan is amazing

  • "slow accession into a calm moment of rare revelation." Wow.

    This is beautiful.

  • The description gave me tears of joy. Sufjan is precious.

  • Please, I'm begging you. More videos just like this one.

  • Haha, glad you enjoyed it. I'll try to get some more of the rare ones up if I can.

  • please do :)

  • absolutely amazing.

  • nice

  • Enjoyed!
