  • Amazing family !!!!! I love the style !!! Greetings from Paraguay !!

  • Early Grand Old Opry performer Pop Stoneman, with his very talented family. A rare and delightful piece of footage. From the 1967 film "Hell On Wheels", starring Marty Robbins. Wonderful. Keep posting.

  • i was born in kentucky so i can make fun of southern people. the Stonemans were 100% bat-nuts! i love them. so clueless and innocent. check out crazy gold boots! she really has some moves. and Uncle Jimmy plays a mean rock-a-billy style slap bass. not too many bands have the gumption to do a show like this anymore. lots of personality. The mock-u-mentary film 'A Mighty Wind' makes fun of all these style bands in a poignant way. (and if you're southern i doubt you'll know what "poignant" means)

  • The 1966 MGM label single of The Five Little Johnson Girls is definitely one of country music's definitive classics. Absolute, utter perfection!

  • I am one of five Johnson girls. We're from Many, Louisiana and I love your video, but while our daddy wasn't like the dad in the song, he was a strong disiplinarian, which I am thankful for today. He passed in '09 and I miss him dearly. Thanks again and keep making that good music!!!

  • On TV after Church Sunday`s,there show was on & I fell SO I LOVE W/ these Girl`s it made me want & NEED to Play Music as my life`s calling ! THAN-Q Lady`s & GOD BLESS & Keep You in our Heart`s of the USA !

  • I've not seen them (TV) since forever

  • awesome talent

  • i remember then when i was a kid. i loved em then and i love em now. that ole boy on the bass can tear it up now.

  • roni and donna steal the show...but the bass player doesntget enough credit

i recently discovere this group and nowcant get enough thanks 4 post.

  • my dad used to sing this to us but it was 5 little Jandreau girls..

  • funny

  • Is there a video of their recording of, 'All The Guys That Turn Me On Turn Me Down'?

  • I had such a crush on roni

  • I remember seeing them in Chattanooga sometime back in the '60s. Loved the go-go boots. Very talented family - all of them!

  • i love this group! Just wondering did Donna take 'diet pills'?

  • And I thought Rhonda Vincent hopped around the stage a lot. What a wonderful group of musicians and obviously a wonderful family. They don't make 'em like this any more.

  • I can't stand country music these days; that said, I love the Stonemans!!!

I was a tadpole when they had their syndicated TV show back in the late 1960's; never saw the likes like them.

    Totally awesome!!!

Thank you so much for posting this; I'd adding it to my favorites.

  • Loved to watch these legends. Its obvious that slap bass evolved from double bass and not from electric bass.Jimmy is great..5555555555555 stars

  • I saw the Stoneman family in 1968 at Indpls Coliseum, Bill Anderson, Waylon Jennings and Loretta Lynn, best show??, STONEMANS!!!. PERIOD!.

  • Is that Pop there in the Background. I love this Music and Ernest is a Legend for me.

  • Ist that Pop there in in the Background ? I've never seen him in a video..

  • My name is Laura Stoneman and these very talented people are my aunts, uncles, and my grandpa. Not one person ever mentions how talented my Uncle Jimmy is on the bass. That man really knew how to thump that bass. When he first started playing the bass he played one that my grandpa made and they called it the Whomper because of the sound it made. He was truly marvelous.

  • Well let me correct that. I always enjoy listening to a good stand up bass player.

  • He also had a fine bass voice.

  • @StevePerrysLady Your Uncle Jimmy was a fantastic bass player and is a huge influence on me. He is solid, creative, and amazingly flashy just when he needs to be. This clip showcases that perfectly. That little break he gets is very complex and has an unexpected melody. This is the kind of lick that separates the men from the boys.

  • @StevePerrysLady do tell!!!!!1

  • @StevePerrysLady Did Jimmy ever play electric bass?

  • my name is robert i am roni stonemans youngest son. i would like to thank everyone for there wonderful comments. hey drumnguy77 you say you might know me are you from smyrna tn.

  • Hi Bobby. Nice to see you are doing well. I don't know if you remember me but I am your Uncle Deans daughter Laura.

  • I always admired your Mom's awesome talent. I got her book off Ebay, and I really enjoyed it. If your in Nashille look me up.

  • @banjohead62 wow... much respect to your mother and her family... brought a lot of joy to lot of people...i first knew her from hee haw , and just recently discovered the stoneman family music.. and i love it! id love to talk with your mom, im sure shed be fun nd interesting to talk with and be around

  • I saw Ronnie at Pallirosa several years ago. It was an evening I will never forget. According to the present owner there now, she was married there. (Now known as the Turner Opry House, it is really worth a visit.)Thank you for posting this!

  • I have always loved Roni. I always thought she was very pretty.

  • What a treat! I remember seeing the Stoneman Family in Kitchener ON in 1968. Brings back memories. They were amazing in person! Always loved this song and haven't heard it in years!

    Thanks for the post!

  • My Mom used to play Bass and sing with Roni in the mid 70s..I remember her here at the house with her children..All these songs bring back alot of memories, especially this song.

  • This is first rate,LOVE IT!! Many thanks.this doesn't get much air time either.

  • OH MAN I LOVE THIS

  • I just finished the "Roni " book, Great read!!! she had a tough life married at 17 then 4 kids. She autographed it for me. this is another Marty Robbins opus I'd imagine! like Road to Nashville

  • Ernest "Pop" Stoneman will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year.

I also enjoyed seeing Roni Stoneman perform her comedy routines and her banjo playing on "Hee Haw".

  • Donna was born the same year as my mom ... here she moves her legs like a rag doll - with agility of 9 year old kid! Pop Stoneman must've been proud with kids this talented.

  • Wow! I bought this record back in '67(?) What a surprise to see this posted. Thanks!!

  • Don't underestimate Roni. She is the first lady of the banjo and known as the best female banjo player in the world. She has a great voice for those who love the Appalachian sound. She could buck dance better than anyone and is funny as heck.

  • It's true that Ronnie didn't have the moves, the looks, or the voice. But it is also true that most consider her one of the top five banjo players who ever lived. Loved to hear her pick.

  • Those 'two little Stoneman girls' are hot..hot...HOT! Loved 'em!

I sure do miss Pop Stoneman...

  • used to watch them on Hee Haw, that Donna could really move her legs, and the other girl Ronnie didn't seem to be able to move at all. love this group and love all their songs.

  • Was this a scene from a movie, video or home video. Absolutely great performance.

  • This is a scene from the Marty Robbins' movie "Hell on Wheels." Great performance :)

  • Wow did she have some stomping feet or what! She could do that and play the Mandlion at the same time.

  • I love the unimitable Stonemans.
