Music is about interpretation. We have no real idea what the writer had in mind when he wrote the song itself unless he has delivered to you first hand knowledge of that mindset. You can pull just about any meaning you want to out of a song by the way you interpret it. Now It would seem that many of you are on the right track as to what the song may actually be about, however, what is more important is how the lyrics may apply to your own life.
People, first of all look were they at. Looks like theater so muffled with echo. Truly not a stadium and if it was they would sound like album. Like they did at oz-fest.
@muaythaitildeath "i had to mke a choice that was not mine" he didnt leave because of wats best for him. she left him because he couldnt change. he tried but it wasnt enough to keep her there. it hits home for me cause thats wat ive gone thru now. i gave it my all but it wasnt enough. great song
wow the only "religion" part of it is the gypsy mention..also it doesnt sound good 1. cuz its live and when he records it the sound edit any flaws and 2. a cheap ass camera is recording it so it kills the sound
to me its about religion and lack of faith. I'm an atheist and to me it reminds me of when i tried to be a christian but just couldnt believe most of the bible or the actions of other "christians" toward their fellow man. the choice that was not mine was turning away from the church.
he's saying he's heading out to do what he needs to do, whether that be following a dream, starting over, or simply ending the relationship; and he's saying 'call me what you want girl, but i must go regardless. so say what you want, but i need to go'. (paraphrased of course) this song relates to me real well b/c i'm gonna join the army and my gf hates the idea, but regardless of what she thinks, this is right for me..... so i'll be on my way.......
It's about divorce. I saw an interview with Brent once where he said he wrote it for a friend who was going through a divorce. I've never had this suspiscion confirmed one way or the other, but I think it may have been for Jasin, their original guitarist.
i agree, this is a good performance. when someone can go up on stage and make it sound better they can say it sucks. i know i wouldn't be able to do it.
ehm i dont know why evr1 thinks this sucks. its live people , hes not like a robot who sings the same everytime, i think its pretty ok, not his best performance, but hey
I know...the flatness...it's just like AHHH I love this song, especially the album version, but singing it live just isn't his forte. It isn't hard, he just needs to practice it more. I can sing it perfectly, so he can DEFINATELY do it...just idk why he's having troubles, but this is better than the other version I've heard...the other guy needs to just stop singing and that would help too...
i love shinedown, but this is off key so much my ears start to bleed. Very hard song to sing and he is a talented singer. Backupsinger sounds off key aswell, not so easy to sing in key to :P
The guy singing harmony sounds like shit. Brent is fine on his own usually, but this is obviously a hard song to sing. The backing vocals being off-key make it VERY difficult to sing on-key. I know from experience.
Shit happens.. They play a lot of shows.. Some bands can only do what they do in the studio. Brent is the one that is mostly off on most higher parts. It just sucks when a great band great singer puts something amazing on the album but can't really pull it off live. Still awesome tho props.
I've seen them live, Brent rarely ever screws up his pitch. You gotta remember this was probably recorded on someones phone, the sound is bad as it is, and everything sounds off...
i was at this show, it was amazing there. didn't notice any of the out-of-key-ness there.
and btw, brent IS the one out of tune. which is not to say bad. it just sounds horrible with the backup which is trying to emulate exactly the studio version.
also guys take into consideration that this is not the best video ever, and the back up vocals sound like shit here, on his albums he does his own back ups so of course it sounds better, plus i have seen them do this live its always one of the last sangs they play, which is gonna be hard for him to hit all the notes after screaming all night, he is the best singer i have heard in a long time. dont knock him none of you are tryin to put on a show like him :-D....the best band ever right here
After listening to the whole thing again... I'm REALLY amazed at just how bad it was... I mean, can't they tell as they're singing it sounds like garbage?
No... it really does. I'm a HUUUUUGE Shinedown fan, and I know he can sing much better... but I'm also not deaf. Everybody I've shown said the same thing, which was "Oh my... thats bad"
On the album this was recorded with a full 20some piece orchestra so considering that all they have is a piano and a backup vocalist it's really not bad.

It's the two vocals TOGETHER that sound horrible. The back-up singer is actually more in key than Brent is... Brent keeps singing flat!

i wouldn't say it sounds horrible at all
