If the foal is unable to nurse for any particular reason it needs that milk to survive, especially if the foal has not nursed within the first few hours of being dropped. In that case it REALLY needs the mare's milk as the milk carries colostrum that though is possible to get from other sources, the colostrum is stronger coming from the mare.

@owLetss It has a lot of uses. It can cure bronchitis, and in Asia, it's more common than cow milk, which is very unhealthy.
