I'm not trying to be a jerk, but his is very lame dancing/choreography. This is the Bellydance Superstars! Their standards are higher than this! In the dance world, we would say that this girl doesn't know how to sweat!
i really don't like her style, there's no grace at all. i don't know, when i look at her dance all i see is the sequence of crude moves, steps and figures, and absolutely no feeling, no flow. and also these days, when she dances with those veils of hers, it's not even belly dance anymore, there's only spinning with no hip movement at all.....
there is, however, a reason why i keep watching her videos, namely her fantastic wardrobe choices! seriously, those harem pants are g o r g e o u s!!!!

She may be technically correct in her dance moves, but seems rather soulless... she lacks that requisite "je ne sai quoi"... it's like watching a cheerleader practice a routine for a halftime show.

The zills were dubbed later in the editing process. If you look closely, you'll notice zill sounds, where she isn't even striking them. It isn't her fault.

I really wonder why they didn't just re-tape the dance instead of dubbing the zills over. It may have been more time consuming and/or expensive, but the finished product would have been much better.

It's JUST like that! Although I want to ask Tom Robbins why he thinks that someone who looks "bored and scared" when she dances should be at all appealing. But I guess PJ is proof of that; I can't stand her dancing, but she has legions of fans.
if you see her in a show where every dancer is doing the same thing, you will see that she is the best out of all of them. your eyes will just be drawn to her.
it took me a while to realize that it is boos not boobs. As for the finger bells she should pause it once in a while, it get annoying after a while. This girl is just fingering the bells non stop the whole performance, crazy energetic fingers.
As far as I could tell she is not of Arabic decent. She is from Alabama and her mother was also a dancer, she started dancing at an early age. This vid does not do her justice. I have seen her dance live several times and she always puts on such a powerful performance.
For some reason I honestly just don't find her a good dancer. I agree with the other user about her movements being to aggressive, and I feel like bellydancing just seems likes something she really REALLY wants to do, but its a case when no matter how much you try, it just doesn't suit you.
Personally I think bellydancers should be graceful and fluid in some way, which she doesn't seem to posses either one of those qualities.
Petite Jamilla is a gorgeous dancer. I think that this video doesn't do her a whole lot of justice. Her movements were kind of sloppy in places, and the zills just didn't sound good at all. Even if they were dubbed after, I just don't think they sounded good and on time. I love her veil work and her turning technique is soooo beautiful and graceful. I've seen better performances done by her. But hey, if she is in the BDSS it's because she is a gorgeous dancer, not because she sucks. BDSS ROCKS!

I find it kind of mechanical, slightly bored look, going for the full range of motion in all movements without bothering to make it look like DANCING! I found this with the last BDSS show I went to - there were no actual people in there, just a a kind of circus act.

The reason her name has Petite in it is because her Mother name is Jamilla also. Your are see as close to perfection as you can get.

It's JUST like that! Although I want to ask Tom Robbins why he thinks that someone who looks "bored and scared" when she dances should be at all appealing. But I guess PJ is proof of that; I can't stand her dancing, but she has legions of fans.

it took me a while to realize that it is boos not boobs. As for the finger bells she should pause it once in a while, it get annoying after a while. This girl is just fingering the bells non stop the whole performance, crazy energetic fingers.

As far as I could tell she is not of Arabic decent. She is from Alabama and her mother was also a dancer, she started dancing at an early age. This vid does not do her justice. I have seen her dance live several times and she always puts on such a powerful performance.

For some reason I honestly just don't find her a good dancer. I agree with the other user about her movements being to aggressive, and I feel like bellydancing just seems likes something she really REALLY wants to do, but its a case when no matter how much you try, it just doesn't suit you.
Personally I think bellydancers should be graceful and fluid in some way, which she doesn't seem to posses either one of those qualities.

Petite Jamilla is a gorgeous dancer. I think that this video doesn't do her a whole lot of justice. Her movements were kind of sloppy in places, and the zills just didn't sound good at all. Even if they were dubbed after, I just don't think they sounded good and on time. I love her veil work and her turning technique is soooo beautiful and graceful. I've seen better performances done by her. But hey, if she is in the BDSS it's because she is a gorgeous dancer, not because she sucks. BDSS ROCKS!

I am trying to understand why I think her dancing is so weird. I have never seen anyone dance the way she does. She is beautiful and knows how to move her body, but her style looks so odd to me. What am I not seeing? I would appreciate some insight. Thanks.

I find it kind of mechanical, slightly bored look, going for the full range of motion in all movements without bothering to make it look like DANCING! I found this with the last BDSS show I went to - there were no actual people in there, just a a kind of circus act.
