sorry Absinthe Fairy, you are only partialy correct.
Belly dance was brought to the west by egyptian dancer Little Egypt in a circus in USA. In a traditional folkloric outfit. The 1920's American dancer Ruth St. Denis was studying the dance of Japan, Egypt and India and adapted their costumes. This costume evolved into the familiar cabaret belly dance costume. This costume found it's way to Egypt and Lebanon, and became ingrained in the public's mind as THE traditional belly dance costume.
what? no it wasnt dark rogue. the two piece was around before the 40s in egypt, then the midsection was added to appease the muslim fanatics that appeared during the 50s, the one peice is traditional of saidi style baladi. it is not however the only form of costume that is original. watch the old movies and ask around. every arab knows that.
One of these girls is doing her own thing. How did the girl in blue get invited to the party. She's beautiful, but she's not dressed the same as the others.
Her dress is actually more similar to original egyptian belly dance dresses. He two piece outfit was introduced by the west to "romanticize" belly dance (or make it more sensual).
Looooool this made me laugh, bellydance is the only dance they are not doing. They are just jumping around, thinking they are bellydancing.

@Butterflyonocean
Whatever they are doing, it is quite popular. Do you have a better measure of success other than popularity?

@TheABsiNtHeFaiRy actually the outfit is driven from the local women dress, were dancers were poor and couldn't afford a proper dancing outfit
