LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- Former world champion gymnast Daiane dos Santos has been banned for five months for a doping offense.

The International Gymnastics Federation said Friday that the 26-year-old Brazilian's suspension took effect on Wednesday, when its presidential commission made its ruling.

Santos tested positive for the banned drug Furosemide at an out-of-competition doping control last July.

Six months ago you mentioned a doping penalty that was but over when you did the comment. Nobody needed excuses to get her out of trouble, the punishment was very light for a doping penalty all things considered. She claims that it was not intended as a performance enhancer, and the light punishment sugests that she was believed, since that could take her out of competitions for up to two years. Also, a drug used in 2009 did *not* affect titles won in 2003-2008. So, she still rocked.
