It's funny that I always thought he sounded like Maynard and then I seen the discussion on here lol.If a lot of people think so then I guess it wasn't just me.
@apxika You have a very discriminating ear. I have to admit I hear tinges of Maynard James Keenan's vocal shadings, but I don't have as good a sense. It is certainly a gift to be able to discern the differences as you have. I truly wish my hearing was such, really.
i thought it was maynard when i first heard it as well, had to go look it up haha but i love this band, love the song, and they are definitely very different then Tool. Just certain parts sound like Tool, the chorus. but yeah, its great, love the band <3
@JaneBritany Are you kidding me? How is that a bad thing in anyways? We need more metal like Tool! Pretty sure this dude can't change how his voice sounds in any case.
I don't really understand why the fuck it matters if he is trying to sing like Maynard. Did you personally ask him if he was? Didn't think so. Maynard has his own distinct voice and NOBODY will ever sound 'exactly' like Maynard. Sure he compares to him and I can see where everybody is coming from, but Earshot is Earshot, and TOOL is TOOL. Listen to the fucking song and get over it.
@drummerbadass1 Tool's a loser band? What, they lost your audition tape? (I hope you take this as all in good fun, engaging in spirited disagreement and giving each other crap, pretending as if you're all actually taking it personally. I'm sure Maynard doesn't care what I think. I appreciate your viewpoint. Hang in there.
i go through life with out even an accidental thought of justin beiber.. that is until i read the comments of my favorite bands.. wtf is wrong with ppl.. this needs to stop
That's funny--one time after song played on the radio years ago, the announcer said "...and that was Toolshot." I loved Tool at the time, so I still remember that. Like other ripoffs, this music has no staying power (sorry Chevelle).
@lanakatana If they are, then they're failing miserably. I like Earshot, but the members of Tool are extremely talented and put a lot of technical riffs and time signatures in their work. Earshot is mostly pretty basic power chords. Also, Maynards vocals are untouchable.
Sounds more like APC than Tool. Granted, they have stated Tool as an influence, and you can definitely hear the Maynard, but I think you all have the wrong band. Besides they have two guitars like APC. A Perfect Circle, better comparison, 'nuff said.
They may be the closest to Tool. But Tool is in there their own genre you cant mistake any1 for Tool. From Danny's mind blowing beats, to adams screaming riffs they are from another fkcing planet. These guys are very good and you can definitely hear some Maynard in Wil's voice.
@BigFuckingBoobies I dug this song from jump. And Earshot's a good band on many levels.
But, yo... "This band owns..." Tool? Did you bump your fucking head on something? Maybe you're running a dangerously high fever?? (people die from that, you know). Or are you just 15???
Hard drugs are bad. Step away from the crack pipe... tool.
@runthemachine This and the German Earshot both own Tool. That band just plays the same thing over and over again for waaay too long! You would have to be on drugs to enjoy their music... What about you?
@BigFuckingBoobies Well, you write too well to be 15.. so you're in college (or 'at University'??)! Good for you. =)
A) I guess I'm not sure whether you believe Tool's music all 'sounds the same', or if you feel their songs are repetitious within themselves. Either way, I couldn't disagree more. & B) Whether I were "on drugs" or not, recognizing and attempting to decipher the insane complexities & intricacies of Tool's music would be a challenge for music scholars.. and Earshot fanboys alike. =)
@BigFuckingBoobies I'm all aBOUT making sense, Maynard! It's my special way...
Perhaps I have 46 and 2, thus enjoying a more harmonious state within my chromosomal construction?
Regardless, I stand by my original assertion.. Earshot (both German and American) is a good band, and Get Away is a great song... and NO band owns Tool. Of any country, of any era, of any genre... no one.
Every musician on the face of this earth is influenced by some other musician at some point in their journey, doesn't mean they deserve to be treated any different. I a huge Tool fan and A Perfect Circle fan and I welcome more music like this cause most of the music today sux.
Earshot was influenced by Tool, so no reason to trash talk them. And something many of you probably didnt notice, the lettering in their logo is exactly the same as Tool's lettering ;)
Being a diehard Earshot I will admit they are similar. But I don't like Tool, I like APC so now I get twice as much :). This isn't Earshot's main song check out the others if you really feel they're a copy.
I'm surprised at how many people are saying x band sounds like Tool. Chevelle, really? lol. Taproot? lol. These guys? Ha! The singer may be doing his best to sound like Maynard during the choruses, but the music sounds NOTHING like Tool. They don't sound like Tool OR A Perfect Circle.
@Iovereband Plus, you know... Maynard typically writes lyrics that have meaning, he doesn't just pen together random words to talk about how "upset" or sad he is like a lot of bands. "How much must I live through just to get away?" Maynard would never write something that... lame and meaningless. If you're seriously comparing these monkeys, or 99% of bands since 1985 to Tool or APC, you should probably go back and analyze what sets Tool apart. It's not the ability to hold a note without vibrato.
First off, just because he sounds like Maynard during the choruses, doesn't mean he's intending to. It's just how his voice sounds. It's ignorant to say you know what someone is thinking or trying to do when you've most likely never even met the man.
Second of all, you think "how much must I live through just to get away" is lame and meaningless? Okay, what qualifies a set of lyrics as meaningful? "Why can't we drink forever? I just want to start things over." WOW, that's deep!
@Iovereband - u r a d-bag. Yes most of Maynard's songs have meaning, but a lot of it is just alcohol and drug induced. Not dissing at all, I luv TooL. -1 of the most original bands of all times. And Earshot's lyrics are NOT lame and meaningless. How the hell u know what that dude was thinking when he wrote that? Makes perfect sense 2 me. "How much Bullshit do u post? Get AWAY!!!!"
I remember when this came out, I thought it was Tool at first. Then they were completely forgotten when Chevelle came out, who also sounded a lot like Tool.
What's with everyone hating on these guys? Just because they sound similar to Tool doesn't mean they're attempting to be Tool. He can't change the sound of his voice. And bands naturally are going to sound like their influences.
I like Tool just as much as the next guy but Maynard gets so much more credit than he should. Half of the tracks on some of their albums have no vocals and the ones that do, his "flexibility" and "dynamics" consist of either pretty much saying the words or yelling them. And his melodies so often just follow the progression of the guitar/bass. Maynard is a great songwriter but he's no god at vocalizing.
Andddd let the bashing by the Tool fans begin.... Now.
@schecter2007 I will never tell anyone they are wrong when it comes to art and to me music is art, but I hear it differently then you I guess. Maynard rarely follows the obvious melody of any given song. He uses counter intuitive vocal melodies and his voice changes the tempo and texture of a song quicker and better then any other vocalist I have heard. Listen Hooker with a Penis and then The Pot. He sounds like two different vocalists in two different songs. I like this guy but he is no Maynard
I respect your opinion, music is subjective. I listen to alot of bands like Earshot, Chevelle, Taproot etc. who all get compared to Tool because of slight similarities in sound but aren't near as big as Tool and people always talk **** on them because they think those bands are trying to be Tool but they aren't. & everyone claims Maynard is above all else but if people would take time to listen to all the material these other bands put out they'd see these guys have some talent too.
His voice is similar to Maynard, but is also similar to Pete Loeffler from Chevelle. I think it's an extreme compliment to be likened to such successful artists. But regardless these guys are very talented and to date I have no idea why they aren't as big as they should be.
to be honest, the tool comparison ends at the singer sounding like maynard...that's really all there is to it, maybe musically it could fit on the opiate ep, but that's about it
TOOL TOOL TOOL TOOL TOOL, All I hear about is how much this band sounds like TOOL TOOL TOOL TOOL TOOL, SHUT!!!!! THE FUCK!!!!!!! UP!!!!!!!!!!!! ALREADY!!
Tool is the biggest Tool in the history of rock music...That's why they're called... TOOL!
@nigelthewizard Not really, if you're going to throw out comparisons I'd say they sound more like HURT. Of course comparing bands is kinda dumb, every band has its own sound.
The first time I heard this on the radio I thought it was a new Tool song. As soon as it ended, the host commented he received a few dozen messages asking if it was.
Everyone sounds like someone.. theres always bands influenced by others so give em a break. Maynard would be hard for anyone to emulate and I'd say he does a pretty decent job. Buuuuut Tool still rocks the shit outta these guys anyday
Yes his voice does sound like Maynard, he stated that he had been influanced by him. Now the band that`s another story....not even fuckn close to Tool ! Musicaly...nothing new here...just the same old same old in different fashion...
I see nothing wrong with fashioning your self after someone from which you were inspired, as did Earshot get their inspiration from Tool. Many other bands produced similar types of music according to their inspiration. It is just human. They are not trying to be Tool, they just like that style of music.
@kyrazor200 I highly disagree...bands that produce a UNIQUE sound are what I look for. Not ones that sound like others. There is a major difference between being influenced by a band and imitating the sound of a band. I stopped listening to Metal/Hard Rock in the late 90's because all the bands sounded the same!
@seanx666 yea i agree as well, but its still cool to see a lot of bands taking inspiration and creating their own sound with it..perfect example, silver chair, and not to mention covers, kind of the same thing, like Cash covering hurt, even Trent said after he received the video , it was Johnny Cash's song.
meh, they were decent back in the day. i think the fact that he sounds like maynard is purely coincidental. the instrumentals sure as fuck don't sound like tool.
@kyrazor200 Well Chevelle was inspired by Tool as well, so it's not surprising that both these guys and Chevelle would sound like Tool. The music we listen to today, will inspire the musicians of tomorrow.
Song kicks ass. Remember hearing it on the radio few years back. who give a shit if the vocalist sounds like maynard. fuck I would love for somebody to give me that compliment.\m/ \m/
Vocalist sounds a bit like Maynard through the chorus, but the band itself is nothing like Tool. I mean, they have guitars and a bass and drums and shit, but thats about it...
fuck your national debt, it is not ours it is solemly your own, i wont be paying it off, not even the fraction they say was for me, it never went to me, i am poor! get it right, defecit or deficate?
I remember getting this song and it started to play and I was like "Theres no fucking way this song is by Earshot" look it up and I must say I was wrong....Earshot is amazing!
@Destination5Unknown i'll admit it's catchy and leave it at that. but it makes me think of the first time i heard the band Pepper and thought it was some newly released Sublime songs. Except Pepper has a fanbase unlike these "tools".
I'm a Huge Tool fan and I love this song, doesn't matter why? it's how it makes you feel, and what you think about when you hear it. It's Art

They do sound within an... Earshot... of Tool.
GhostmakerX 1 year ago 20
When this song first came out on MTV was there a different video for it? This isnt the one I remember.
travismanley 1 year ago
Take me back a minute.
Never noticed the TOOL comparison until now, honestly.
Good call though.
Carwreckriddles 1 year ago
lol I'm not even familiar with Tool...

@MrTvtech9 do you live under a rock?
wonderwall135 11 months ago
his voice is somewhat similar to maynards, but as a whole they sound nothing like tool

Everyone sounds like someone.. theres always bands influenced by others so give em a break. Maynard would be hard for anyone to emulate and I'd say he does a pretty decent job. Buuuuut Tool still rocks the shit outta these guys anyday
indiana350xer 1 year ago
hmmm this is the worst thing that can happen to a singer ... to sound like someone as famous as Maynard ... sad ...very sad...
markpriss 1 year ago
Maynard inspired ones. Gotta love 'em.
SpaceDyeDream 1 year ago 2
I'd never paid attention to this song too much, but listening to his voice during the verses, I realized it wasn't Tool...
Cool track, either way, though.
RockRebel219 1 year ago
this group is like Tool =)
pingadark69 1 year ago
Yes his voice does sound like Maynard, he stated that he had been influanced by him. Now the band that`s another story....not even fuckn close to Tool ! Musicaly...nothing new here...just the same old same old in different fashion...
marclb 1 year ago
they sound fucking awesome leave'em alone
trusxybitch 1 year ago
Who cares as to whom they sound like as long as they sound good and they rock. Bands like this is what keeps rock alive.

i swear this dude sounds like manyard when he sings the chorus part
mariano597 1 year ago
reminds me so much of tool and a perfect circle. mostly of a perfect circle though.
XcJawlockercX 1 year ago
I see nothing wrong with fashioning your self after someone from which you were inspired, as did Earshot get their inspiration from Tool. Many other bands produced similar types of music according to their inspiration. It is just human. They are not trying to be Tool, they just like that style of music.
kyrazor200 1 year ago
@kyrazor200 I highly disagree...bands that produce a UNIQUE sound are what I look for. Not ones that sound like others. There is a major difference between being influenced by a band and imitating the sound of a band. I stopped listening to Metal/Hard Rock in the late 90's because all the bands sounded the same!
seanx666 1 year ago
@seanx666 I feel the same about rap and hip hop. what a dichotomy.
journeyman109 1 year ago
@seanx666 yea i agree as well, but its still cool to see a lot of bands taking inspiration and creating their own sound with it..perfect example, silver chair, and not to mention covers, kind of the same thing, like Cash covering hurt, even Trent said after he received the video , it was Johnny Cash's song.
JackZman533 1 year ago
meh, they were decent back in the day. i think the fact that he sounds like maynard is purely coincidental. the instrumentals sure as fuck don't sound like tool.
cfrailty 1 year ago 2
I love em, they sound like a mix between Tool, and Chevelle rolled into 1.
kyrazor200 1 year ago
@kyrazor200 Well Chevelle was inspired by Tool as well, so it's not surprising that both these guys and Chevelle would sound like Tool. The music we listen to today, will inspire the musicians of tomorrow.

I am so shocked these guys are washed up

I can't tell the difference between Earshot, Tool, and A Perfect Circle...
soulessphilosopher 1 year ago
@soulessphilosopher Well maybe thats because Tool and APC have the same singer.
MrJack452 1 year ago
@soulessphilosopher stop listening to the vocals & listen to the music. its pretty obvious then

@SHREDDEINMETAL4LIFE LOL YEAH MAYNARD CAN RUN CIRCLES AROUND THIS GUY BUT SOUND REAL GAAAAAAY!!
vivalafiends 1 year ago
Vocalist sounds a bit like Maynard through the chorus, but the band itself is nothing like Tool. I mean, they have guitars and a bass and drums and shit, but thats about it...
Endovaria 1 year ago
WTF THEY SOUND NOTHING LIKE TOOL! THE LEAD SINGER FOR THIS BAND DOESNT SOUND AS GAY AS MAYNARD DOES.
vivalafiends 1 year ago
@vivalafiends "As gay as maynard"? You're a fucking moron. I love Earshot, but Maynard could run circles around this guy vocally.

Destination5Unknown 9 months ago
@Destination5Unknown i'll admit it's catchy and leave it at that. but it makes me think of the first time i heard the band Pepper and thought it was some newly released Sublime songs. Except Pepper has a fanbase unlike these "tools".

@nategetsirate nah nah, I remember this song coming out around the same time as Perfect Circle or so... hahah I always like the song though....
