I totally support alternative currencies but be careful, norfed got raided for doing exactly the same thing. Although it seems they weren't actually breaking any laws.
If you start making one ounce Gold pieces with Rand or Thoreau's face on them, and one ounce Silver with Spooner's face on them, I'll move to NH. "Spooner" even sounds like currency. :D
whoa whoa whoa - Though us "yanks" primarily use the english(lol) system we also have all of our products labeled in metric by law. Even our military uses/memorizes both systems. Just in the US we use english primarily and also don't arrest our citizen for using a foreign system(as the UK does)
Making coins is not illegal provided you are not trying to pass it off as legal tender. Think of them as medallions, jewellery, or trinkets. Selling coins without paying taxes may be "illegal".
There's a company called Rio Grande in New Mexico that sells sheet silver. Google them. There may be something closer to your home. The machine gizmo he uses turned out not to be optimal; there's one that stands up called a ball joint press that is better. They run about $150 and turn up on Craig's list now and then; basically it's a bottle jack on a metal frame.
Wow! thank you so much! do you have any idea how much a sheet of silver wold cost? It would "seem" (if you bought both sheet and ball point press) that there would be an obvious waste in the very cut out procedure, wouldnt you think? I mean think of rolling out a sheet of dough for cookies (to be cut out) you would need to purchase more of silver then can actually be "pressed out" (leaving waste wouldnt it?)
Unless you can melt it down and repress, can you do this?
So let me see if I understand this correctly: all we have to do is use real metal currency, and we can eliminate inflation, grow the economy, abolish all taxes, and reverse the modern trend toward totalitarianism?
i kind of like the idea of a nickel bullion; it would not be expensive enough to be worth faking the metal. this might work with copper too, the liberty dollar people had some success with copper but I don't know what their status is exactly.
It should be really easy to tell if something isnt 100% silver, because it won't displace the same volume of water. I actually think that they should print instructions to test its density on the back.
Like if you wanted to vacation somewhere far away and had to have a lot of money, and those communities didn't have alternate currencies like Liberty Dollars. Your Liberty Dollars outside of your community would be pretty much useless. :/ Plus, having lots of currencies accepted by whomever in whatever area could be a strong deterrent against inflation.
Inflation, of course, is "too much money chasing too few goods", but lots of currencies means less of each kind.
Silver is silver. It always has value, unlike FRN's or anything that is controlled by a private bank, especially ones practicing fractional reserve banking. I'm not sure there are many instances where people would rather take an IOU (federal Reserve Note) than something with REAL value.
This is the reason that I like this. They are making something that they can trade or barter with. It is not real money so therefore legal. To me it is even better than money. It is something that has REAL value.
I share your enthusiasm but make no mistake, this IS REAL MONEY as opposed to the paper most everyone has been fooled into thinking is money. Yes, it has REAL value!
Hmm... fascinating. So I could make as much silver money as I wanted if I could get a bunch of silver?? Sure beats working your ass off 9-5 at some dead-end job.
But these local currencies the guy refers to can only be used on a very local scale, right?? Do the local banks even accept liberty dollars in communities with people that do? I'm asking because it would really suck if you got a bunch of liberty dollars and tried to cash that for regular dollars and cents and couldn't.
hey can you guys point to the some blueprints or diagrams so I can try to fabricate my own mint. you guys are awesome

And no one likes inflation, except those who make more money off the increase in prices.

I know! This is ideal, and so simple! I love that's it is simply a measure of weight of silver of certain purity. That's all we need!

I now have the latest silver prices available on my phone for ease of conversion to FRNs.

If both or all parties in a transaction feel that they win, why would it matter. Also, why would anyone want to trade in silver for FRN's?

This is a great idea.
I am not far from Deerfield, and would love to see this operation... I would also be willing to have some of my silver converted to shires...
My first concern though, is how could people be sure that each coin is in fact .999 silver...
