This is not futurism. Futurism is a movement which started in the beggining of the 20th century and was coupled to fascism. Filippo Tommaso Marinetti wrote the manifesto.
This video is about populuxe. That's a different thing. Populuxe is an American thing. American, local culture praised in The Jetsons. Futurism was a global movement and much older.
I wonder what happened to all these clothes; who has them, if they were passed down, or if anybody still wears them. I'd love to see someone dressed like this on the street.
haha. obviously from the 60's futuristic view. Love the view fom the Eiffel Tower . Well, the prediction never happened. What we had in the 70's was garb-looking, hippie fashion.
wow wow wow AWESOME music space disco, nice space melody also love the space fashion. I hope one of the designers will come up with some cool space gear for 21st century. Lots silver, shiny jackets, metalish clothes range, fantastic
@KodierungHerz Those clothes are all from the 60s, not the 80s. But there was a lot of 60s revival influence on the 80s, so maybe that's why you're thinking that. Really, though, these clothes done in this way and presented in this way could never have been produced in the 80s, only the 60s.
Hi, the music is DEJA VU from Mort Garson's LP Ataraxia The Unexplained (1975). The fashion is from various designers of the 60s like cardin, courreges, rabanne etc.
All my space cousins love this video too. We used to watch in on the big DC8's that fly over Edinbourgho. Are the robots used currently in suspension? Or current xu2sf models that were outdated like ishmale in 1972?
People tend to think future designs should reflect technological / industrial advances---and nothing else. They overlook possible cultural changes in the future. Example: clothes today are more laid back, more "street", more "body conscious" (rather than plain geometric) -- compared to the clothes from the time this video was made -- because of the emphasis on physical fitness as beauty, the faster pace of life, and the spread of "grassroots" subcultures over the years (hiphop, punk, etc.).
does anyone know what MORT GARCON means??? it means DEAD BOY in French. Why would anyone use such a morbid name? The fashion is very cool for the 60s, no one has done it before. This is real talent to come up with something new.
In the sixties, futuristic meant spacey because Sputnik was only a few yrs old and no one had gone near the Moon. Everyone knew that space exploration was just around the corner.
@aryrenaud the wozard of id is also on cd but his two best after zodiac -black mass lucifer and the unexplained lp are not and to find them on vinyl is becoming a bank buster- both are great- by the way i have the zodiac cd love it- goes for 70-90 on amazon
The silver hairfalls and goggles now look good with the cybergoth style, so they weren't far off.

Hilarious !
.
You could only ever wear these outfits around the house.
.
Even today, if you wore any of them on the street, you'd never get a taxi.
.
Cheers.

Next time you think a big name designer though of it first go back to this video.
Just proves that we always take from the old and tweak it 1%
We need more original designers like these who knew what was going to be big.

Why was everyone so sure that futurism would be all about simple blocky geometry? It's not like geometry was a new concept in the 60s
