  • @Wildboared: HAHAHAHAHA! The old 'you sold off all our gold' BS! I think you've been reading the Daily Fail too much!

Brainwashed Coalition-apologists like you are totally incapable of thinking for yourselves: living proof that Cameron's spin machine CAN fool some of the people all of the time...

  • @JeanCadoret No it is a fact you only have to check the history books, I am apologising for nothing that should be down to clown and bliar who sold us out.

  • @GarryHarriman SO you were a Painter and Doper??? As a former NCO with 8 years on MR2 and 1 1/2 on MRa4 I can say it was never going to work. Why are all other aircraft sold for scrap yet the MRa4 was cut up on site? Because it saved waste of space from losing money and public embarresment when it failed to do the job it was meant to.......

  • £600 million to finish building and to bring into service 14 MRA4 Nimrods.....scrapped and 'replaced' by 3 reTIRED USAF RC-135 rivet joints built in 1964 in total costing £612 million. Their argument is that the 3 aircraft will cost less to run over 10 years than the Nimrods but ofcourse they will as there are only 3!! dumb!?! but the RAF need more than 3 but they do have a plan for this.....lets get France and the US to patrol our waters for free! Nice move again Conservatives!

  • @tonightwefly

The RC-135's are to replace the Nimrod R1's at Waddington - the MRA4 program has no replacement.

  • It was that good the secret agencies wanted it for 2012 olympics. Only to be told no way , it was safe within 3 days of SDSR and its now pretty certain BAE called it as it did not work and would cost them a lot of penalties. so in return a deal was done with BAE to sacrafice Nimrod for keeeping Marham open perhaps , Typhoon contracts or perhaps the sale of the last batch of typhoons to Oman. MRA4 was never a winner in the market

  • I gotta say...the British make great looking airplanes.

  • @3ISAMAGICNUMBR Shame this one never made Al-Qaeda say that!

  • Fuck this government.

  • Oradour-sur-Glane, France 6/10/'44, Our Lady of Salvation, Iraq 10/31/'10. The Long War continues.

  • tsr2, nimrod aew , mra 4 to name just a few. iam sick of this bloody country at times

  • David Cameron's Defense policy, a seat for himself, his family and other Conservative and Lib Dem big wigs and their families on a requisitioned British Airways Boeing 777 departing London Heathrow destination Bermuda, before the first Iranian ten kiloton yield range nuke detonates over London. Put the Nimrod MRA4 in to service, keep the Harrier GR9 in service, maintain RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Kinloss as operational military airbases and kick Mr Cameron out of 10 Downing Street.

  • @adrianwainer There isn't the money to do all these things and the state of most of our aircraft is poor and several types are past their best and will probably be retired post Afghan.

  • @adrianwainer Unfortunately we are a bit late, the people that caused this were Labour, I'f we had kicked them out 5 years ago, we would not now be in this mess.

  • I guess there was a bit of arm twisting from the US... we will lease you these if you scrap it. Best not have the limeys with this on their books.

  • Which aircraft is Royal Air Force going to use as an alternative of old Nimrods?

  • @SuperArcherSS anything that is lying around at the time, I shit you not. Hercs probably, maybe an Avro Anson & a very pistol if there is a chance that the target might be able to fire back.

    Still, there you go.

  • @SuperArcherSS

    C-130 Hercules!

Not kidding here, that is the plane that will be doing the Nimrods job in the future.

Well, I guess the C-130 can do ocean patrols against surface ships, you can put in a few guys with binoculars,

  • adrian, I love the Nimrod I'm an aviation anthousiats like averybody here or most I guess. Didn't mean to disparidge the work of those who build it.

Just saying old design is old. the general concept dates back from '46. I also know that b-52's currently in inventory are practically new aircrafts too. I prefer not to be angry at those who scrapped the program, or at complete stranger of wich the only thing I know is that they love flying machines, just like me.

    Peace, bro.

  • @popol321

You are talking rubbish. Nimrod MRA4, has new wings, new engines, new sensors, new computer information analysis / battle management systems and a glass cockpit. Basically the only thing which has been carried over from the original aircraft is the bare metal fuselage tube.

  • Nimrod MRA4, the most advanced counter insurgency / anti-asymmetric warfare aircraft currently in production, put it in to service. Nimrod MRA4, whispering death to al-Qaeda.

  • @adrianwainer Yeah real whispering death. They must be crapping themselves at the thought of it. 3 old boeings and 9 billion to the British taxpayer later they must think Christmas has come early in the caves in Afghanistan. Fucking shit country the UK is. Fucked over by the yanks and tory shitheads. They knew they were never going to use it. Fuck the UK being skint. . Don`t tell me about a fucking recession when they wasted billions on this pile of shit

  • Comment removed

  • well, i guess a design first drawn round 1946 isn't supposed to fly eternally either.

  • @popol321 Not true, if it was pure genius in the first place and furthermore Nimrod MRA4 is practically a new aircraft. At best you haven't a clue what you are talking about, so kindly go and F*ck off.

  • @adrianwainer it wasn't enough of a new aircraft though was it? lots of built in problems.

  • @Wildboared

What built in problems has it ? It actually has built in advantages, since for example the Comet design operates particularly competently in the lower speed range race track maneuverer envelope, an issue which is problematic with regard to the USN's adoption of the Boeing 737, as maritime patrol aircraft.

  • @adrianwainer it can now not fly faster than 300Knots the airframe side is almost identical to the MR2 which should have been fly by wire. The cockpit and engine side are all new yes but the aircraft now has inbuilt flight characteristics which should not be present in a modern aircraft. The wings were enlarged though the tail plane and fin weren't which caused many problems with Cof G and control. Unfotunately this "NEW" aircraft was more of a missed opportunity than a success.

  • @Wildboared Compare it to the P-8 - basic type designed in the 1960s (first flew 1967), remodelled in the 1990s. The P-3 dating back to a 1950s and many of those around now are P-3Bs, very old airframes, but with new avionics many users are happy to keep operating them. Its was not a flawed aircraft. Its a bespoke aircraft. After numerous cuts only 9 aircraft remained planned and they was practically new builds resulting in sky high operating costs and R&D spent pr airframe.

  • @fitte6 It is not bespoke most of the airframe although new build was just a copy of the original, 8 years on MR2 and 2 years on MRa4 were enough to show me how poor this aircraft was as an airframe.

  • We will probably end up buying something from the Americans that costs even more

  • The government have no money thanks to the last lot spending like there was no tomorrow, the MRA4 wasn't ready and was still costing money so it got chopped....

  • @Wildboared: when are idiots like you going to stop spouting this ill-informed nonsense?

    Average Total Annual Public Spending* (%/GDP);

    1979-1997: 39.21% (Tory)

    1997-2010: 37.02% (Labour)

[* Public sector current expenditure - source: HM Treasury 20th October 2010]

  • @JeanCadoret When idiots like you stop voting for the labour party and attempting to ruin our country. which lot sold off our gold reserves? I remember in 1997 that the country wasn't actually financially ruined so what happened??

  • what a fucking disgrace... has the government not learnt from 2 world wars? ... world war 1 is over.. they cut the military... world war 2 comes.. "oh dear we dont have anything to fight back with" and now after world war 2 this is whats happening again.. what a waste of time... i'm starting to wish i lived in a country where the government isnt comprised of pricks and dont make stupid decisions...

  • Oh well, 3.5 billion quid down the drain. Enjoy the footage guys, there won't be any more of it...

  • @Penfold011082 have the military spending cuts stopped the mra4 from being entered into service i thought it was going to be based at RAF kinloss

  • @dannymcwolf Yup, whole project shelved and 3.5 billion down the drain to save 200 million a year operating costs. Total disgrace.

  • @Penfold011082 The aircraft was said to be able to do all these tasks but had yet to actually prove it could actually do any and wasn't even cleared to carry anything in the bomb bay yet! over 20 years since they took away the first frames they have left us with rubbish.. The real criminals here are Waste of Space...

  • @Wildboared BAe recieved the first airframes in 1997 mate, so it's only been 13 years. I admit this is still ridiculous, but this first flight was in 2004 so it was only 7 years from delivery to flight of the first aircraft. The rest of the 6 years is pretty inexcusible though.

  • @Penfold011082 Yes sorry '97 but they took it on and saw it as a quick profit. They are pretty poor as a company and only survive due to the incompetent contract writers the MOD has used for years. The MRa4 still wouldn't be in service now as it wasn't ready and wasn't going to be for the foreseeable future. The tasks carried out by the MR2 are mostly doable by UAV's now and the americans are looking into using them as anti submarine so that would be the way I'd spend my money.

  • @Wildboared You are living in science-fiction land as to the capabilities of UAVs or at least the sort that the British MoD would buy. My presumption is that you either want Britain to be successfully attacked with nuclear weapons by Islamists or that you are a Conservative Party hack that would write the sun shines out David Cameron's backside if asked to do so by Conservative Party Central office.

  • @adrianwainer As somoen who worked on MR2's and was to have worked on the MRa4 I think you'll find it is you who is confused, UAV's are already carrying out some of the jobs the MR2 did and the Americans have been researching it's use for maritime work for several years now. If islamist are going to attack us with Nuclear weapons then the MRA4 was never going to be able to stop it. We currently operate and own Reaper and Predator UAV's as well as all the types the Army operate..

  • Waste of Space ruined our Air Force!!

  • Wouldn't really call it an upgrade? each plane is costing four hundred million pounds each; New wings, new engines, new Horizontal stabilizer, new vertical stabilizer, new landing gear, new all glass cockpit....59% of the fuselage being refurbished with the other 41% being totally replaced with composites. Essentially a brand new aircraft and the most expensive planes in the RAF's history.

  • @tonightwefly

Only the fuselage pressure shell is (partly) legacy, the rest is new built.

The ill fated Nimrod AEW cost £1100 million at 1980s money and the aircraft were scrapped or used as fire wrecks. Nimrod MR4 was reduced from 21 aircrafts

down to 12, and now finally scrapped pre delivery after years of delays and a pricetag reaching $6.3 billion. What remais of flightworthy Nimrods died with them. As an island nation Britain is to use C-130 transport planes as maritim patrol aircraft.

  • this looks like an half jet style and plane

  • Cant believe this is a new build, goes to show what a good airframe the good old comet had.

    Fantastic really.

Cant improve on allready great design.

And yes i do reallise it has more modern engines and computers but the overall airframe still belongs to an aircraft designed in the forties!

  • i have been in the 8 million pound simulator at RAF Kinloss but it might not be based at kinloss they are not sure yet and i have had my picture taking inside of it aswell

  • @andrewjasav93 But did you manage to land it??

    C**t

  • the new nimrod is out lol

  • Go Comet !!!!

  • The best thing about this video is the guys at Woodford that I have meet so much , bloody damm good engineers , they are the people that make good aircraft , Warton just take credit for work they have not done to keep a job . The RAF needs Woodford type people trust them , Warton can suck hairy balls as they just hate big jets and think eurofighter is the best thing since Gordon Brown.... the next few weeks so much change loving it

  • @Robsta1974 I'll second that!!

  • Keep the old girl flying! great vid (Vote Conservative)

  • @flyboyzz09 No this is the NEW MRa4 not the old and now out of service MR2 so too late to keep the old girl flying I'm afraid...

  • Keep the old girl flying! great vid (Vote Conservative)

  • Keep the old girl flying! great vid

  • I'm liking the MRA4 simulator let's hope the real thing is as good..........

  • Fuck Larbour and they sold Dover to French!!!!!!

  • See website "Luqa remembered" just type it into google

  • I been involved in MRA4 with the RAF as an engineer for 9 months now, the last few weeks has made a few thousand people think. Devastated is the best word but thats politics , they cut us all , Labour have destroyed the last and its fitting that the election to be we should all vote LABOUR , they have made the mess so let them sort it

  • Nice plane to work on??????????

You're obviously not still on em then.

  • I'd have to agree with that!!

  • when i worked on this every SUBHUNTING PILOT in NATO wanted one and were stuck with rattley P3 ORIONS, LOL

  • i love this baby, such a nice plane to work on!!!

  • Hehehe WildBoared , agreed buddy. Just take a peeky on my videos and i have some new stuff buddy

  • We've been through the MR2 thing already why don't people read the previous comments eh?

  • There is a book now available about 203 Sqn, "the malta years"

    google it

  • i fly MR2's...and unless something has changed drastically overnight...i still fly em. MR2 still going strong.

  • This is the Nimrod MRA4 (marine reconaissance arcraft 4), My dad is chief executive on it at BAE. The MRA2 was took out of service because one blew up in mid air from a fuel injection leak when they up-graded the inflight refueling system. The MRA4 is the new improved varient made for iraq and afganistan.

  • First flew 60 years ago.. Well the DH Comet anyway.

  • Becuase Nimrod is bloody 30 years old!! she still fit!!! and one pomblem Larbour Goverment wont spent and wont upgarde or build new like Nimrod 2 in futrue it will taking off service because health and saflety on march 31 2009 and that why public moaning want Nimrod taken off aswell and because we fucking work with stink EU soon !!!!!! and I hear we might order new AWD from American we never MADE IN BRITISH

  • The nimrod has always been good, but this update makes it look something special. Lovely shot of the aircraft taking off in opening sequence.

  • much as I love the Nimrod...

the MRA4 is too little, too late.

  • Comment removed

  • Too little: 12 instead of the original 21, to cover one of the largest and most important asw zones on the planet.

Too late: 7 (crucial) years behind schedule, with zero export potential thanks to the P-8, a tarnished reputation for safety, and massively over-budget.

  • Comment removed

  • nice to see our wiring in action....watch this space for MRA4 PA4... guaranteed it wont take off after the refit!

  • Awesome aircraft. Ive been on the back and its a hell of a pieace of kit to have. I cant say its overpriced as look at the F-22 that is overpriced. Although i agree they should have bought more

  • Fabulous aircraft I flew in the illfated A.E.W. version !!! Why dothey have to squash the picture ??

  • It's like the Vulcan. A piece of art.

    ...

    It gives people boners.

  • The Vulcan would make the taliban shit themselves, shame we dont use it now :(

  • You cant use it over there.

Like the early Apache, the engines cant take that severe a beating.

    But yeah, The vulcan rocks.

  • Bugger

  • What?

    It's true.

  • I believe you mate

  • I cant wait till the inservice date is here!

  • Over priced and very late kind of magic!!!!

  • Over budget but perhaps not overpriced. It is supposed to have pretty awesome electronics inside.

  • They are pretty awesome yes but we aint getting enough of them.

  • Yup overpriced and late because the goverment tried to save cash and it backfired. if they ordered 25 airframes they would have made brand spanking new one's saving a lot of cash. The original airframes were built by people therefore were slightly diffrent sizes.

  • I saw the new MR4A Nimrod at RIAT 2007 and the amazing thing was how quiet it is compared with the other nimrods

  • That's because the old one was basically 2 phantoms together without reheat and nowadays you can more power combined with less noise.

  • More Tragic than Magic,
