i dun get why toyota's 2.4L engine has only 158hp and their much older 1.8L on the celica had 180hp.

i own one...its a bloody hatch back...the audi avant is a wagon , and the A3 a hatch....and the A3 and Matrix is the same thing ... i.e hatchbacks.

a VW Golf for that matter is also a hatch....and looks like the matrix.

To clear things up for you guys ill fill ya in on what defines a station wagon, It is a passenger automobile with a body style similar to a sedan (corolla) but with the roofline following the full, sometimes extended rear cargo area, i.e. ending with a more vertical door than would be seen on a hatchback. This is in fact a station wagon so even tho this guys review was kindda blah he was correct in calling this a wagon it fits all the requirments of a wagon.

What's the problem with calling it a wagon. At the end of the day who cares anyways, it either fits your stuff or it doesn't. When I hear the term hatchback I don't consider that as being roomy so I'm happy if someone calls the matrix a wagon.

Get the matrix, I wanted to get a tc but instead went for the matrix and i couldn't be happier. The scion is worse on gas and very plain on the inside.

I like how they gave this car a choice of engines now but I don't like how they gave the 1.8 THE BOOT. I mean it'd be great if it was available on the S trim instead of just the cheap BASE. For us folks in NY gas peaked at $4.40 this summer and we could really use the 1.8 in the higher trim levels.

But your really not gonna get gas mileage TOO much worst with a 2.5 lt or w/e. cause its still a 4 banger lol but are you serious about those gas prices? holy crap! lol and yea im thinking baout getting one of these even if it is ugly as fuck just cause of gas prices.

Great review CB...I lyke it ! bought the S. Like u said pretty good for a SW. Disagree that the body oversells. I think it's about neutral for what it is...minor traffic slicer! Tyres are decent with 18's anyroad! Tight on the turns great! Vintage vibe with the Matrix--I can't put my finger on it tho. dunno.

This guy doesn't know what he is talking about! The S also comes with the 2.4L. I should know, I have a 09' Matrix S, and low and behold I have a 2.4. Toyota must of made a mistake with mine.
