Yeah, that's the American version (NTSC) of the game.
We have the European version (PAL) of it.

Free Mode is basically the same thing as a quickplay mode.
But you have to be more then 1 player if you wanna play Free mode.

Basically, you can play with more then 2 players on Story Mode and Free Play mode.
The only difference is you spend less time trying to move around the world in story mode while you can just select levels on Free Play mode which saves you time.
Although, I don't know why Nintendo added Free Play mode if you can play more then 2 players on Story Mode.
And Quick Play mode is Free Mode.
Just another way of calling it.
