It is not so much as cost, it is having to find such wardrobe! Many on ebay are simply too small for me (most listed are size 6), when a larger size listed competition is fierce (a lot of other CDs shop ebay!). Fashions in stores these days are truely awful, I don't bother to shop. Bridal shops sometimes catch my eye with bouffant prom dresses but almost all are strapless.

Petticoats and girdles with garters (that held up the stockings) were incredibly sexy and pretty. It's too bad that pantyhose replaced the old-fashioned girdles or garter belts with stockings, and that petticoats (worn separately instead of attached to the skirt or dress) are no longer as popular as they were in the 1940s through the early 1960s. This video gives a good idea of how nice they were.
