I don't have the 8443a but do have the signal gen. Tips on how to hook that up to the SA to get the same results as with the 8443a? Also, you look like you're into vintage collection, I have a HP 608c (powers up) and HP 401c vtvm (works, complete) you interested?
You can connect sig gen rf out to freq counter and split also into the rf input on SA. I have an 8640B so when it is set to a freq I know it is on it exactly. get enough power but not too much to see the marker. Similarly, the 8443A tracks the marker it produces to the position of the marker but all through that backend 08443-60009 interface cable. Sorry but I can't use the 608 or 401. Good stuff though. 73, Greg
I am no expert on spectrum analysis and applications for the 8406A. There is a website where you can download HP application notes that may have what you are looking for at hpmemory.org look under ressources
Basically 8406A
Generates a comb of closely spaced, coherent unmodulated carriers used for measuring
Shielding effectiveness of small enclosures.
As a reference source for radiated measurement systems.
I acquired a fully functional 141T from a friend and am just learning how to use it. I'd love to learn how to use it the way you do - any tips? I don't have the freq marker like your setup. Thanks for sharing. - Nelson
The RF input to the SA is basically from the main antenna rooftop or from a small in the shack antenna if transmitting from inside. If you can find a good 8443A Tracking Generator is a big help to identify the frequency. You will need the interconnect HP PN 08443-60009 cable which can be purchased from GLK Instruments they have a website.Otherwise, you need a SigGen to ID the freq to the SA to overaly same blip.
Nice stack of classic HP Instruments you have there ....
Thank you for taking the time to make and post this vid; glad to see someone else is also 'capturing' some of HP's classic instruments on video for posterity.
Thanks, Jim. These truly were classic HP RF measurement instruments, just as useful today as then, 20 odd years ago. The 141T series spectrum analyzer systems went out of production about 1988, a span of about 20 years of production starting way back about 1968.
