  • Charlie Chaplin knew how to write a song, damn it.

  • I listen to this every morning :))

  • 7 people are lame :P

  • Cheering my friend up with this.

  • you'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile.

thank you Mr. Cole, because lately i've been thinking that life isn't quite worth it.

  • Is it possible not to like something like this?

  • nice song, saw my ex with his new girlfriend today, still have feelings for him so it killed me to see him with her, got a bit choked up, tears nearly came :(

  • What voice what a gentleman .

  • What voice what a gentleman .

  • just finished Modern Times and I immediately thought of this song! :)

  • This Chaplin song didn't become known as "Smile" until lyrics were added in 1954 by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons

  • how u can dislike this?

  • @nicoflogger123 the same way that people can like justin bieber

  • Favourite song ever, beautiful lyrics:')

  • I like Jacko's version, but Nat's version is just perfection.

  • Useless comment 80: "I Fuckin' love this song"

  • awk moment when i cry at this song :')

  • THUMBS UP! :)

  • mágico. música e intérpretes maravilhosos... e 3 pessoas não gostam. devem ser de outro planeta.

  • It's quite ironic that this song is about being happy, its the only song that made me cry at a funeral, oh silly me :)

  • @patrickstarlover Well, it's not really about being happy so much as trying to be optimistic in the least of times. So I think it's fitting to cry here, haha.

  • His voice is just so smooth and soothing. Thanks for posting

  • One of my favorites...

  • I really like how neat and put together even the lyrics are in the videos. Well done.

  • Nat King Cole is the original singer of this song

  • Charlie Chaplin wrote the music in 1936

John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons wrote the lyrics in 1954

  • This song was written by my grandmother. I have the original sheet music as proof. She sent the song to the local radio station, but she couldn't afford the copyright.

  • @flipysrevenge96 HA HA.....YEAHH YOUR GRANDMA WAS CHARLIE CHAPLIN....NICE ONE ......U MADE ME "SMILE"

  • @jeanbilliejean No joke. I'm serious. Charlie Chaplin didnt write this.

  • @flipysrevenge96 ok.......i believe you.....then you should go and claim a share of profits on behalf of your grandmother....!!! u wud probably get quite a lot of money if u can actually prove wht u r claiming.....

  • @jeanbilliejean I wouldn't care about the money. I just care about my deceased grandmother getting credit for what she wrote.

  • @flipysrevenge96 If you care so much for she getting credit for what she did...Why do not you write her name? Also, if this is real, contact important press, commenting in Youtube is not the best way to give the proper credit to your grandmother. Oh! And I do not believe you!

  • @DANUNIVERSAL Believe what you want, but this song was written by Dorthy Zajec

  • Wonderful song!!

  • @6netfire Charlie Chaplin wrote the music. James Phillips and Geoffrey Parsons wrote the lyrics.

  • @MsMagicalUnicorn123

Well it's not a surprise suits to Chaplin the greatest!

  • Smile , what's the use of cry? : )

  • no2 of my "secret" favourites.it´s often not funny to smile.but if you smile while people waiting for that smile from you-do it like me! show them your mask-which ALWAYS is smiling.DON`T let them see your sorrow, that your wear inside your heart.hide your tears.and never ever tell them......only a tear is yours so near....

    thank you for that upload!!!

    yours

  • wat happened to the other 6oo million views???? oh wait, some gay person named Justin Bieber stole them

  • Mum - you loved Nat ......... he sang this for you at your funeral ........ we do 'Keep Smiling' Mum but love and miss you so very much xxx

  • This was played at my nans funeral, makes me think of here every time i hear it, and what a great song to associate with the greatest lady in the world

    R.I.P Nan x

  • Love you, Charles Chaplin <3

  • ok, im officially in love with Nat King Cole <3

  • well, Chaplin wrote the melody. The words were added later by someone else.

  • This song is so simple in melody and lyric, but yet it evokes such sentiment. It reminds me of a time long ago when composers would combine words and music in such a way as to really stir that genuine love your fellow man kind of emotion. When men would tip their hats to a lady, or conduct themselves gallantly. And, as deadlydemon666 pointed out, written by the great Charlie Chaplain. For a real treat, check Charlie excepting the lifetime achievement award at the Oscars, on YOUTUBE.

  • Wow..this song just made me cry. What a powerful masterpiece!:)

  • This was played at my nan's funeral a few weeks ago...I miss you so much.

  • Great !

  • I thought no one else knew that lol..sadly, it was also his ONE and ONLY Oscar award-winning..anything! believe it or not.

  • @justjessizamess

    He deserves more! >.o

  • Words by john turner and geoffrey parsons and music by charlie chaplin

  • so classy

  • Serious Note: If it were mandatory to listen to this song at least once a day upon entering this planet...the world would be heaven.

  • @Sethdrake1 He had a voice that was as soft as newborn's bottom. He was just amazing! And Natalie's is the other side of the coin sweet & loving. I have listened to him all my life.

  • @simpson881 Captain Obvious, thank the Lord you have come!

  • Bass clarinet at 2:40!

  • this song is so beautiful.

  • Thanks for the upload. I always listen Nat King Cole, when I need to be away from reality and calm down. This song was exactly what I needed at the moment. Thanks a lot.

  • Charlie Chaplin<3

  • 1 person can't smile =(

  • @deadlydemon666 not it's 2 :/

  • @deadlydemon666 Aww, that's actually a sad notion.

  • This song was written by Charlie Chaplin.

  • @6netfire Charlie didnt write the lyrics though ;)

  • @6netfire True, BUT, only the music was written by him. The lyrics were written by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons in 1954. The original music has no lyrics, as it was designed for a silent film.

  • @6netfire I'm sorry to tell you that but Chaplin didn't wrote the song, he composed the music, but the lyrics were written by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons.

  • @missandressamaia But he composed the music and to be honest that's the harder part

  • Great song !!!! :D

  • beautiful

  • amazing song

  • I love this man!

  • no one sings like this man.

  • I've just been fired. But i've just found happiness :)
