Bono is embarassing himself. Bono should be singing with much lower caliber, much lower quality singers. What ever happened to the freedom of expression - 'interpretation' - in art? I don't think Bono is doing anything but putting his personal style to a classic. Pav seems to get that. I'd be interested in hearing Dylan's rendition of this, or did I miss that one?
I'm in no way saying that Bono is not allowed to interpret the song,
I'm just saying that to approach a song which has been sung (some say to death) so many times by so many famous singers in such a clumsily out of tune way is perhaps a bit insensitive to the effort that some have put into it.
The significance here is his desire for everyone to understand not just the beauty but the meaning to this great song. You can see in his face the importance of that and his appreciation for the dawning understand of those who have mostly never appreciated the true meaning of the words.
What many do not understand is at this point in his life Pavarotti was already losing his wind, he invited others on to stage with him because he did not want to give up on singing but couldn't sing as he always did before.
This is like the easiest opera song, so no Bono would not fail. I believe he was just intimidated as many who sing with Pavarotti are. Even though they were friends, in front of all those people it's a total different experience.
The guys who write that BOno sucks are not right... If he took the notes as Pavarotti, he would have failed, because Pavarotti is a real master class in singing opera!!! But Bono has a cool style which defines him as a good singer....

This was pretty interesting, i mean, its nice too hear to different interpretations, but really, this is Ave Maria, this is not to be perforemed as a lovesong with nice twitches and so on, its a song that requires a lot of respect and authority, both which only pavarotti gives when he sang, not Bono.

i love u2, but this honestly seemed half-assed from Bono. Now Miss Sarejevo was a GREAT GREAT performance by both of them.......especially Pavarotti(as usual :) )

Interesting how half seem to love Bono and half seem to hate.
Also seems like about half have actually listened to early U2 and have some idea of rock history and influence, and half seem to have been raised on bad South Park episodes.

What ever happened to the freedom of expression - 'interpretation' - in art? I don't think Bono is doing anything but putting his personal style to a classic. Pav seems to get that. I'd be interested in hearing Dylan's rendition of this, or did I miss that one?

I'm in no way saying that Bono is not allowed to interpret the song,
I'm just saying that to approach a song which has been sung (some say to death) so many times by so many famous singers in such a clumsily out of tune way is perhaps a bit insensitive to the effort that some have put into it.

This is like the easiest opera song, so no Bono would not fail. I believe he was just intimidated as many who sing with Pavarotti are. Even though they were friends, in front of all those people it's a total different experience.

This was pretty interesting, i mean, its nice too hear to different interpretations, but really, this is Ave Maria, this is not to be perforemed as a lovesong with nice twitches and so on, its a song that requires a lot of respect and authority, both which only pavarotti gives when he sang, not Bono.
Its nice to see that Bono remembers to take hes hat off though =) shows that he also has respect for the theme, the only problem is that he just cant show it in his voice.
