very nice. My friend Mark used to fly Makapuu in the late 70's early 80's. I went up to watch one day and freaked when I saw these guys take off. I had to try this. A week later I was learning to fly single engine aircraft at Honolulu Int'l and Ford Island. Years later I learned to hang glide at Jockey Ridge NC. Never flew at Makapuu but this vid is the next best thing! mahalo

Amazing, man!! I grew up on O'ahu, and used to stare in awe up at the hang gliders over Makapuu. I just went skydiving on the North Shore this winter and the feeling of being up there that high, snuggled against the mountains is just exhilerating...big mahalo for the ride...

I got into hang gliding as a result of makapuu, (said'gonalearnthat&comebackhe­re!)back in 1975. Spent 13 weeks in 1989 flying maui, mostly with D.D. ,curing my nasty hang gliding habit,... flying all the sites on maui. Had many/many scared to death experiences(clouds(total whiteout),couldn't get down 6-7.5K 2+hrs COULDNOT!,VERYsevere turbulence,heli/tour copters, hail/ice(no gloves),landing tight/small field in dark, bad glider..). and never did makapuu, which started it all 4me.
