  • I remember these commercials from when lived in Seymour in the 70's.

  • damn good music too

  • I always thought it was hilarious when Mavis talks with the trucker guy's voice. LOL.They just don'r make commercials like this anymore.

    (-:

  • Thought is was Old Home Bread.

  • i'd imagine that Kern's & old home were produced by the same company. so they just recorded 2 versions of the same basic commercial.

  • Anyone have the Old Home ones that played in the Omaha district? I remember the one where they went on a date to the "picture show" with Mama along for the ride.

"Took the BB town ramp and slid on in..."

  • Wow! In the Omaha viewing area we saw the same commericals, same plots, same actors for Old Home bread.

  • Saw the bread and buns ads back in Mt. Airy, NC... and for me, Kern's WAS bread.

    Great to see this again.

  • Now that I think about it I grew up in rural VA and was close to east TN so I got to enjoy kern's foods but on the other end of TN (Memphis that is) u can't find it anywhere. We don't have Food City or Food Lion either. Just Kroger Piggly Wiggly Schnucks and Super Walmarts and Targets.

  • Kern's honey buns were the best :)

  • You have made my day posting this ! I was laughing with my cousin and we could not believe it was on here !

  • My dad drove for Kerns for over 30 years, used to ride with him on the weekends. I remember these commercials and the fun my family had when they came on. Thanks for posting.

  • @gsdurbin Wouldn't happen to have any pics of their trucks would ya?

  • ''had a kern's breader with burned out clutch and 18 wheels in the mud'' great

  • These were always my favorite commercials when I was a kid! I used to love those Kern's pies! There was a trend for a while where women were crocheting rugs out of strips from bread bags and a whole LOT of those rugs got made from Kern's bred bags!! My mom STILL has hers! You can actually see bits of the Kern's bags when you look at the rug! That was back in the days when plastic bags were NON-biodegradable!!!!!!

  • Great....thanks for posting!!!

  • Dirty lyrics aside, how is it that his truck says Kern's and so does the random cafe he stops at? Plus in all the different towns he travels to, how come the same gal named Mavis works at every cafe he goes to there? Where does she come from - a family of triplets all named Mavis?!

  • @themredweirdoshow - possible inbreds or perhaps clones?

  • A tow job? HMMMM?

  • Wonder if Mavis is any relation to Flo from Progressive.

Or maybe they just buy their false eyelashes at the same place.

  • The end results of this ad is the Mannheim Steamrollers of Omaha.

  • My Grandmother was the Nanny to the Owners (Children) of the Kerns Bakery (The Hogans) AJ (CW) was a real Truck driver for the Company. If anybody knows Whitney tell her I said Hello!!!!!!!!!!

  • How does AJ (CW) get so lucky finding these waitresses? Any broad that can sling chicken fried steak all day long then put on a raincoat and pull the levers on a twin line Holmes 440 wrecker bed makes Wonder Woman look like Edith Bunker. My wife can't even drive a stickshift or make a left hand turn unless there's a green arrow.

  • AJ got better trucks to drive than CW......

  • These were made just for the Kentucky, Tennessee Kern's/ Metz Baking Company market. All were done by the original ad agency and Bill Fries doing AJ which was changed from CW due to the song that was released by now.

  • I love those old commercials!...Sure brings back memories.

  • Comment removed

  • Who is Bill Fries?

  • he is the one singing(aka "A.J." in these songs),he released records under the name C.W. Mcall-bill fries is his real birth name

  • Thank You so much! It is nice to see so much of Bills work. You have made my Month!

Find as many of these you can Bill Fries is one of my favorite people and I have meet him in person and had dinner with him.

He lives in Ouray, Colorado and if any one wants to write him I can give his address.

  • Theres one of these where they go to the 1982 Worlds Fair in Knoxville, if anyone has it PLEASE post!!

  • WOW! I remember these commercials growing up and am very glad to see Kerns Bread back on the shelves at Food City. I can't believe that they took this stuff off the shelves but I'm glad it's back. Thanks Food City for bringing back Kerns.
