  • "Oooooh, now I can say I was PROVOKED." The Ham was literally falling off the bone with that line. Derek Jacobi needed more than just those 5 minutes as The Master, he was great.

  • As he was regenerating, he looked like the Dream Lord.

  • This was MUCH better than the dross the put in series 6.

  • 4:12 - I suppose it never occurred to the Doctor to stick his hand through the phone hatch on the other door & just unbolt the lock. What a dumbass. :P

  • @Cybusmaster92

The TARDIS doesn't work like that. The outside and inside are two separate entities and the only way into the TARDIS is trough the door. Open the phone hatch, and all you get is a phone in a box.

  • New voice!!! Hello! Hellooo! Hello! Anyway...

  • " I. Am. The Master." Man oh man, that NEVER fails to give me goosebumps. As much as John Simm did a good job, they really should have kept Derek Jacobi's Master around longer. He was much scarier.

  • Y'know, I swear, at 0:49 I could swear I was looking at the Delgado/Ainley Master. Jacobi even had the LOOK IN THEIR EYES down. That's why the man's a pro!

  • This is, quite possibly, the best Doctor Who cliffhanger ever. Jacobi is brilliant as the Master. Simm's not a bad actor, but he's not in Jacobi's league.

  • God when he says, "I.... am.... the master." Perfect.

  • John Simm's master is the worst of them all. Delgado was the best and Jacobi is number 2 because they were brilliant. Anthony Ainley was better than Simm who made the whole thing a bigger pantomime than Ainley ever did. Simm was good for the 2 minutes he got here and then after that he was appalling. Sorry but it was true.

  • @MrHarrylime79 I liked Simm, but Jacobi was great. He should have had waaaaay more screentime - he would have been great with Eccleston.

  • @LucianaShadow I just thought Simm played the whole thing like a big joke and found his performances to be incredibly annoying. There was absolutely no menace about him. I think a lot of it was down to the appalling writing he received. That whole last two episodes of Tennant farce was a perfect example of the worst of the RTD Doctor Who excesses. There was an awful lot of rubbish at that time and I have to say the daleks have been written well once since the show came back by Rob Shearman.

  • @MrHarrylime79 I thought Simm being all "OMG I'M SO CRAZEE LOLOLOL" was because he was supposed to be a foil to Ten, an evil counterpart, like Delgado was to Three (who was way cooler than Ten, IMO). I am kind of glad RTD's not involved any more, though - I'm glad he got the series back up and running, and he did well at first, but then it turned into a cosmic soap opera. Ten's wackiness got up my nose.

  • The Master has to be my favorite Doctor Who villain, and this is one of my favorite episodes, but honestly the Master's storyline was pretty disappointing at the end. Seriously, all that was needed to beat him was the entire planet saying "Doctor "and the Doctor gets restored and erases everything? That's not a Doctor Who ending, that's straight out of Care Bears! All the other season finales had plausable solutions and were hinted at in earlier episodes, but the Master's finale was just LAME!

  • @vampman87 I kinda agree with you, as much as I like those two episodes and all. I wish it had been a little more exciting.

  • MY FAVORITE EVER!

  • " I. am. The Masstteerr"

Biggest OMFGHOLYSHIT moment of the new series for me.

I'd never seen the classic series, but I'd read about The Master in some Doctor Who books. I was so excited to finally see him for real.

  • I...am...the Master!

  • this is THE best cliffhanger in doctor who history, The Doctor helpless , companions about to be eaten , The Master in control !!!!

  • 0:18 i was like "OH SHI**!"

  • "What a meh episode" The master is revealed "OMFG BEST EPISODE EVER"

  • 2:54 Oh no..no way..

  • The Master, Rassilon now all we need is Omega

I'd like to see Patrick Stewart as Omega

  • Jakobi, was deliciously evil, and well mannered. Just like Delgardo was.

Sim's was good, but he played it kind of "nuts". It would have been an intresting contrast, if Jackobi did stick around, for the rest of the story arch, as it would have been good to see him play with Tennant.

  • So I've recently been watching some of the classic series. Just saw "Terror of the Autons," the Third Doctor serial that introduced The Master. I can't wait until he shows up again.

  • I HAVE THAT WATCH

and i dont mean i bought it as a fan item, i got it from my uncle. ITS THE SAME WATCH

  • @GahoolienFlyte208 Dont open it ;)

  • @GahoolienFlyte208 Brill!! :D

  • You Are Not Alone

    Y.A.N.A

  • I love how Prof Yana's voice changed into something more Ainley-ish when he became the Master. "When one door closes another must open." Well done, Mr. Jacobi. Well done.

  • Comment removed

  • I LOVE the Professor Yana version of The Master. I wish we could see more of him. He was so hateful and cruel even in the few minutes of screen time he got. I love John Simm, but Derek Jacobi as the Master was legitimately frightening.

  • lmfaoo i love teh masters HAHA!! when he first regenerates

  • Chantho was really annoying!

I would have really liked to have seen Jacobi a bit more! He was flawless!

  • Ainley was brilliant in Survival and Destiny of the Doctors. I, too, would have preferred Jakobi to Simm, but I am not complaining. I will say that The End of the Time was total rubbish, but compared to A Good Man Goes to War, it was pure excellence.

  • @chaoticprime whats wrong with A good man goes to war?

  • One of the biggest holy shit moments in tv history

  • Sir Derek Jacobi FTW!!!!

  • Thanks, finally I found a clip where he says bye bye:D

  • the yana bit i actually said oh shit out loud i had heard of the master only once but it clicked it must of been anither time lord for me

  • Y-ou A-re N-ot A-lone

YANA The biggest OH FUCK of the series

  • @Jackoooist YES!! That moment was the most brilliant of the entire run of the show, IMO.

  • This is STILL the greatest moment in New Who to date. Wish this had been the series 3 finale...and not the fecking spheres and the aged Doctor shit. Why does the master's regeneration look so much cooler than the Doctor's?!

  • @brigeboy95 true so very freakin true and my favorite line from this master ever "end of the universe have fun BYE-BYE!!"

  • Regeneration efect

Your average Timelord/Timelady: Orange streams of energy

    The Master: Pretty rainbows

  • 5:55 "Hello, hello, hello. Anyway."

  • "End of the universe! Have fun, BYE-BYE!"

  • VOTE SAXON

  • If Jacobi had stayed on he could have been the BEST of all the Masters.... Too bad.

  • @jptang1701 - He was simply brilliant. He said after playing the part that he wished he could have stayed on a little longer.

  • @frostek hes apparently gonna come back for 1 matt skith episode then regenerate into smiths master yes each doctor desrves their master

  • 2 people are the futurekind

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! I was streaming this episode online but it

wasn't able to buffer the last 3 minutes. And I didn't want to go through the

whole trouble of streaming the entire episode again. THANK YOU!!!

  • The title lies it's 7 minutes and 4 seconds

  • Derek Jacobi's portrayal of Master was not long, but it was still awesome. As someone said, John Simms' Master is start of new era of Master, while Jacobi Master was the last of "classic era" Master, and it ended with a BANG thanks to Jacobi.

  • I LOVE THE MASTER :3

  • Much as I love John Simms, I kind of wished they had kept Jakobi as The Master for a little longer. He just had that creepiness down pat.

  • @ThatNickGuy28 Jacobi's Master - a good foil to Eccleston's Doctor, maybe?

  • I remember just before I first watched this I wanted the Master to return on the show...

    Oh the irony!

  • "The Future Kind" look like the audience to a Crass show.

  • @Crispears1 the moment John Simm started bouncing around the TARDIS, I couldn't help wondering where he was in 1996 when we needed him!

  • People go on about how Jacobi would've been a better master, and with his talent as an actor they're probably right, but I don't think Simm was favoured over Jacobi, I simply think Jacobi was not interested in playing the full role. He's much more of a stage actor and rarely does things on the screen, much less a recurring role. He offered his services to RTD simply because he was a fan of the show. I mean, if Jacobi wanted to be the master permenantly would RTD say no? Not a chance!

  • i remember watching this in my uni room.. when those wonderful words came out. i was jumping around screaming 'i bloody knew it!!!!' i did in the end scare my roommates half to death :p

  • i got so bad goosebumps when watching this lol

  • Definitely the most intense 7 minutes of Doctor Who ever.

  • This must be the greatest "Villian Return" in any sci-fi series.

  • When he said he was the master i was amazed but for some reason . . . scared

  • The BBC was so lucky to get Derek Jacobi.

  • The fellow who played the Headmaster in School Reunion would've been a great master as well !

  • @SouthwestRanger

You mean Anthony Head? I think so also! :D

  • @SouthwestRanger when i saw him in the next series video i thought he was the master!

  • I think Jacobi would've been an awesome Master... but no, he had to go die

  • Yeah, it was a darn shame he didn't get much screentime as the Master. Just one episode.

  • Jacobi was a better Master than Simm. Jacobi looked and sounded frightening whereas Simm just seemed like a clown. It was hard to take him seriously as a villain.

  • @Guest1001 I agree, that pathetic "Bye bye" as he dematerialised the TARDIS was childish and could you imagine Jacobi playing it like that? The Master requires a certain gravitas to the part and lthough Simm is a good actor in other things I think he is totally miscast as the Master - he plays him like an annoying younger brother thats always getting up to things

  • @kamelion7 I thought the "Bye Bye" was a bit childish, but on reflection, the Master has regenerated into a younger body, unlike older versions before, and so possibly has a refreshed younger mind. Remember he had been YANA since birth, so as the regeneration hit him, it could be likened to the Master hitting puberty lol. Lots of adrenalin pumping through his body and not quite sure how to harness and control it correctly. Blimey that was a bit thought provoking for a TV show eh? lol

  • Best... Villain's Return... Ever

  • well if it isn't Alexander Corvinus

  • LOL poor martha and jack. they're just trying to get themselves out if there alive while the doctor's completely useless in personal emotional crisis mode!:)

  • @argetlamgirl711 - im sure if i hadn't seen my friend/enemy who was also one of the last of my kind, im sure i would want to be concentrating fully on them lol

  • I love it when the Martha tries somehow to go through the Doctor to the door, then she decides to turn around and protect him from the oncoming horde. Freema is such a good actress she can be both dramatic and comical.

  • "End of the Universe, have fun. Bye Bye."

  • Derek Jacobi only has to turn round and look at the camera and he could win an award for it.

  • @HelterSkelterForum

Damn right! In that moment, with just a look. Derek Jacobi WAS The Master

  • @HelterSkelterForum Jacobi was flawless in this. Total menace conveyed within a short 5 minute burst. The bit where he complains about the insect woman's mannerisms "driving me insane" is so well delivered. I agree with a lot of you. He was and would have continued to be superior to Simm IMHO but nowadays, youth will always be cast to get the viewers so it would have been a non-starter.

  • What is the Doctor sorry for?

  • All of the dr's old foes such as the cybermen, daleks and sontarens were reintroduced brilliantly and given a new lease of life. But the master's return was simply flawless. I used to enjoy the past masters but always felt they were a bit too panto villian for me to take their character seriously as a threat, you always knew the doctor would defeat them and I knew tht the dr will outwit this master but you sense the aura of "how on earth will the dr stop this guy!!!!" throughout Simm's role.

  • @Crispears1 The fact that Jacobi is the actor shows maturity added onto the character.

  • @Crispears1 Yes flawless. Well, except that he sucked at portraying the role, playing it mor as a silly-gumpy school girl than The Master of Everything,. He simply played it like he wanted to be David Tennant than be The Master of All time, who's power is beyond you beleif, youst you remember that.

  • @OttselSpy24 Are you talking about Jacobi or Simms?

  • @kamwrites Simm. I just think they wrote him badly. I call it Colin Baker syndrome.

  • @OttselSpy24 Ah. I think they did a good job. The Master always had a sort of madness to him, and Simm's version finally went over the edge. I think he was an excellent compliment to Tennant. I much prefer him over Ainley, who seemed more like a caricature of what The Master was supposed to be. Now...Colin Baker? Don't get me started. eeeesh.

  • @kamwrites I would agree that my favorite Master was Ainley. Infact, I think my favorite episode is "Destiny of the dotors" just for his preformance.

  • Well, I do agree that the Master has always been insane, and I think some things they did right. However, I think they just drove the hole "insane" thing a little too deep into our skin. You look at the past Masters and you see it there too. Watch Castrovalva and you'll see what I mean. The way the Master refuses to destroy the zero room box until he can open it and see see the Doctor is simply Amazing. I do think Aniley was My Favorite Master, particuarly in Destiny of the Doctors.

  • @OttselSpy24 They probably did, but I'm pretty sure that was for the benefit of the newer audience. They don't get the history between The Master and The Doctor the way the older fans do, so they had to emphasize the possible insanity. Either way, I love what they've done with the Master, and I like that we're not-really-sure if he's gone or not. A universe without him as the Doctor's adversary is almost unthinkable. Though I gotta tell ya, his refusal to regenerate was brilliant...

  • @kamwrites I'll tell you one thing, If being burned alive in Planet of Fire wont stop him, a Tiny little Time Lock wont! Don't worry, he'll be back...

  • @OttselSpy24 Oh, I'm counting on it! :)

  • @kamwrites indeed.

  • @Crispears1 So true. I distinctly enjoyed Simm and whoever played the master in the 90's brillant TV movie.

  • Jacobi should have done at least one full episode as The Master I think, even if I did much prefer Simm.

  • This episode was aired at just around the peak of the tenth doctor's era.

  • such a short time too! Jacobi frankly rules as the latest Master. I think he's better in places than Simm!

  • Jacobi was sadistic and Vicious Only need to refer to the line

"Now I can say I was provoked!"

    to realise that

Simm is much more charistmatic but as equally sadistic and psychotic.

  • Murray outdid himself on the score for this episode.

  • 4:00 - 7:04

    Mu favourite moment of Utopia!

  • The only good RT Davies episode.

  • Judging by the look on the Doctor's face at 5:18, regenerating in someone else's TARDIS must be really rude... :D

  • Yeh it was more of a joke :)

And we don't actually know if they are related :D

  • 0:05 RIP Professor Yana :(

  • 2:10 - 3:00. Best moment of the series.

  • Comment removed

  • I like John Simm but i wouldn't have minded abit more of Jacobi as the Master.

  • Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords would have been very different if the Master stayed as Jacobi

  • no way they could have gotten a better actor for the new master, hes freking awsome for the part.

  • no one can say RTD can't write exciting scripts... back then

  • RTD is good, but Steven Moffat writes the scripts that create tension, even right from the start of the episode. (e.g. Blink, Silence in the library, Forest of the dead)

  • Silence in the library was beast.

  • yes, beast...

  • This is one of my favourite episodes of Doctor Who.

  • i rekkon this episode is just awesome coz bringin bk the master the doctor didnt have a clue who he really was until at the ent of the ep and its great how the master regenerates!

  • i loved the master trilogoy episodes as the master was the doctors match as they're both time lords and know how each other think

  • Damn I forgot how awesome this episode is!

  • Poor Chantho. Liked her. One of the most epic moments in sci-fi. It never gets old. John Simm is the best Master yet.

  • the doctors hand has nice fingernails

  • I love that moment of recognition between the Doctor and the Master. It would have been nice to get some proper scenes between the Tenth Doctor and the Jacobi Master.

  • The Master used the same device (The Chameleon Arch) to make himself human, as the Doctor did in the Human Nature / Family of Blood two-parter seen earlier on in the series. Just like the Doctor, his soul was put into a watch and the TARDIS (or the equivalent time machine that the Master has) created a new life for him.

  • The Master had a TARDIS too but its lost

  • perhaps the doctor will find it one day.

  • So cool how he goes from a kind old man to the master!

  • The second best cliffhanger in New who history (The Stolen Earth gets first) when I first saw this my heart was racing.... one of the greatest moments in Doctor who period

  • this is always a great scene. the only rason the BAD WOLF referance in sereis 4 beat this is because we knew what it represented and who was comming back. This is the second best moment in the series

  • best moment of series 3, honestly!

  • i love it when the master screams when he's turning into john simm

  • The best part is when Yana slowly turns around from the TARDIS and the camera zooms in on his eyes and in that one second, Jacobi completely transforms from Yana to the Master. Just amazing moment there.

  • it's epic!

  • that's why he's one of my favourite actors. he can just put in that subtlety without anything else but his eyes

  • One of the best moments in Doctor Who history. when I was younger, the Master gave me nightmares...I screamed when I saw this clip. :) But I love it.

  • This is one of the greatest moments in sci-fi history.

  • And it comes courtesy of RTD.

  • Oh yes.

  • My theory is that during the year he was in control, he told Lucy Saxon that if anything goes wrong, to shoot him; the Master knowing full well that he'll return again

  • wow, interesting theory!

  • That music while the Master is regenerating almost ruins the whole atmosphere. It signals the end of the Jacobi era (all five minutes of it) before the regeneration has even begun. Jacobi is superlative here. Simm is good, but Jacobi is superb.

  • "End of the universe! Have fun! BYE BYE!"

  • the best 9mins ever!!!

    love john simm sooo funny

    ohh new voice hello..,hello...,hello lol

why dont we stop and have a nice little chat........ (lovin it)

Use my name (when the doctor says master he shud have said oh i do like it when u use my name lol, but i think he says that anyway later on)

lol end of the universe have fun!

    Bye Bye

  • "Not to worry, my dear. As one door closes, another must open!" Hell yes! I like Simm's version of the Master, but Derek Jacobi's performance is just amazing. It would have been cool to see the young Doctor battling the old, gentlemanly looking Master.

  • poor Chantho :(

  • easily on of my favourite dr who moments

  • I just love the part when Yana slowly turns around and you see his eyes and in one split instant, you instantly see the change in him. Brilliant on Jacobi's part.

  • Jacobi is *sensational*, this is DEFINITELY in the top 10 best episodes of all time.

  • Will the Master be back?

  • yay i think he is back for one maybe two of this year specials, also john simm is also back if rumours are true

  • He will knock four times.

  • While the Doctor is using his sonic screwdriver and yelling, quite well actually, for the professor to "let me in", Martha is comical trying to get to the door through the Doctor, but then turns around and decides to guard him, she's hilarious!

  • It's insane how JS and DT can have chemistry even when one's inside the Tardis and the other's not. *thunk*

  • 0:38-0:49 is chilling! even RTD said so!

  • whats the music at the start of this clip?

  • All The Strange, Strange Creatures.

  • Yeah, that's it. Melody of the "all the strange...".

But I think this is the very different version.

    Am I right?

  • I was very proud of the programme when it played out the last 10 minutes of this episode. The bit where Jacobi looks at the watch and hears Delgado say, "So you will give your power to me?" followed by Ainley's laugh was absolutely wonderful. It went on to be the best Master story I think because he caused chaos on Earth and really made the Doctor suffer before he was defeated. To choose death rather than be the Doctor's prisoner (and comfort) was the right thing to do too.

  • I was yelling and screaming when this happened. I think I may have startled my husband... oh well, he knows I'm a nerd! It was cool seeing Sir Derek Jacobi, but John Simm is an awesome Master.

  • I think this episode had the best cliffhanger so far of all the revived episodes. Just watching the Tardis dematerialise and then that look on the doctors face made me feel "shit...how are they going to get out of this one" (i forgot about jacks vortex manipulator :P)

Great stuff..cheers for putting this up.
