The major difference here is that Possessed is not as technical in music composition as much as these guys. None the less when you wanna compare Possessed to other bands, take into consideration how much Possessed is respected and praised. There's almost no comparison lol.. But you have to love Possessed!

Why are there no new bands that play fuckin' thrash or pre-death like this? Outside of the bands that pioneered the genre in the 80's nobody is carrying it forward. Sure, every Metal band out these days has taken influences from the Big 4, but nobody actually plays that style anymore. It fuckin' sucks! There's hardly any new material for Thrash fiends of my generation to look forward to.

If you don't appreciate the music, it is probably because you are not a metal fan. Not many fans of other genres can just immediately listen to a raw death/thrash metal album such as this and enjoy it. People more often get in to bands such as Metallica and Megadeth, and slowly get in to darker stuff like Slayer and Kreator, and then in to early death metal bands.

I played this song and other Possessed songs off the seven churches with the band i made for the musical talent show in the school talent show in the auditorium in front of 500 students. Most of them were wearing the t shirts of the band like System of the down, god smack, Metallica,Slipknot,and Korn. And Trust me when we played this song and "Death Metal", and "Holy Hell". They were horrified in less than 30 minutes. They looked at us as if we were a bunch of terrorists.

These guys were around 14-15 when they recorded this. It's a quarter century old and is still more brutal than these 25-30 year-old guys trying to play death metal today.
I'm turning 40 this November. I used to buy Hit Parader magazine in the 80s. Around '87, one issue was selling a tape called the Wild Bunch. On that one tape was Slayer, Possessed, Metallica, & Megadeth .I then found Death, Blessed Death, Bloodfeast ,Vio-lence & Devastation. I have stuck with this crew for 24 yrs myself, never wavering that I had the purest of metal.My 1st Poss. album was "Seven churches", then "Beyond" , then" Eyes". Becera's voice/lyrics scared the shit out me-and I loved it
@dumbassazn yes it did. possessed, obituary, and death all released major albums about the same time. possessed released seven churches on Ocotober 16th 1985, Obituary released slowly we rot on June 14th 1989. and Death released scream bloody gore on may 25th 1987. so by major release possessed would win first death metal band. however death did have a demo released in 1984 that would match possessed's demo entitled death metal. its too close to call who was the first. i vote possessed tho

Their album "Season of the Dead" was released in 1987, and yes Scream Bloody Gore was released in 1987, and supposely they were the first proper Death Metal albums. Early sepultura and Morbid Angel released albums before 1987 that some people consider Death Metal.
@UnleashTheMETAL623 Morbid Angel didn't release their first full length until 1989, with a few demos in 1986, another in 1987 and a single in 1988. Altars of Madness IS the best death metal album of all time. Sepultura's first album can be considered death metal, but they fell into thrash metal on later albums. Death released a demo in 1984 called Death by Metal, a reissue of a demo released when they were Mantas.

Most of them were wearing the t shirts of the band like System of the down, god smack, Metallica,Slipknot,and Korn. And Trust me when we played this song and "Death Metal", and "Holy Hell". They were horrified in less than 30 minutes. They looked at us as if we were a bunch of terrorists.

Seeing that I wished I was into this long ago to get all the in crowd assholes away from me and bring in the smart people that will actually take the time to see that Death metal is TALENT, and alot of skill involved. I'm turning 40 this November. I used to buy Hit Parader magazine in the 80s. Around '87, one issue was selling a tape called the Wild Bunch. On that one tape was Slayer, Possessed, Metallica, & Megadeth .I then found Death, Blessed Death, Bloodfeast ,Vio-lence & Devastation. I have stuck with this crew for 24 yrs myself, never wavering that I had the purest of metal.My 1st Poss. album was "Seven churches", then "Beyond" , then" Eyes". Becera's voice/lyrics scared the shit out me-and I loved it

@dumbassazn yes it did. possessed, obituary, and death all released major albums about the same time. possessed released seven churches on Ocotober 16th 1985, Obituary released slowly we rot on June 14th 1989. and Death released scream bloody gore on may 25th 1987. so by major release possessed would win first death metal band. however death did have a demo released in 1984 that would match possessed's demo entitled death metal. its too close to call who was the first. i vote possessed tho

@potassium99mg Didn't Death release their first demo in 1983 named "Death Metal"? Also, you didn't mention Necrophagia. Their album "Season of the Dead" was released in 1987, and yes Scream Bloody Gore was released in 1987, and supposely they were the first proper Death Metal albums. Early sepultura and Morbid Angel released albums before 1987 that some people consider Death Metal.

Altars of Madness IS the best death metal album of all time. Sepultura's first album can be considered death metal, but they fell into thrash metal on later albums. Death released a demo in 1984 called Death by Metal, a reissue of a demo released when they were Mantas.
