take your sunrays and or starballs and mount them on the floor on a really small post, or tree?? uplights to the ceiling and gives you a nice bounce wash off the ceiling, and put the starballs etc, on the floor pointing up, and rotate them about 45 degrees so your beams all go through the audience.. and haze em alot... just a suggestion, then you dont have trussing... make it look pro!!
Hi Zack! I have a difficult sounding yet simple question, one that I could not find out anywhere else, not even in the online manual of this light. So I would appreciate it if you helped out.
You have 3 DMX channels for this fixture! Channel number 1 is a dimmer and when that is at 0% it is "closed"..
But if channel 1 would be set at 100% so that the dimmer is fully "open", can I have NO LIGHT AT ALL coming out of the Sunray by leaving channel number 2 (which controls colors) at 0%?
Excellent Work!!! I am shooting a music video and am designing a background... I have a battery of smoke machines with lights coming from the floor. The desired effect is sharp beams of white light shooting thru the smoke. I would typically use HMI powered moving lights but have seen your review on these which is great effect. My instinct would say for me to go with the White Starballs to optimize the strength of the beams but the Sunrays would ultimately be more useful with colors.
Great video! I'm looking for a white only light like the Starball II or Sunray II (I think they are both white). Which one out of the two would you recommend for slow dance songs? Are they generally the same as far as output? Thanks so much for your help!
The Starball LED DMX is probably what you mean. Those are very nice as well and I also have a video review on them. They are maybe just a tiny bit brighter because of the white but both fixtures are plenty bright. Now if you are talking about the old school starballs with a regular bulb, I only had the starball 2 I think. It was a mini version. It had a 10 minute duty cycle, got VERY hot, and wasn't very bright at all. Whatever you go with try to see it in person first if you can.
Just wondering if you used O-Clamps to hook it up to your truss or T-Stand. I have tried using ADJ brand O-Clamps, but it keeps slipping down due to the weight of the Sunray.
any advise or suggestion you use to keep the Sunray firm?
Hey Zman87gt! Really appreciate ur videos. They help a lot! I've got a question 4 u though. I've seen both ur reviews on the Tri LED Vertigo & now on the Tri LED SunRay. Eventually I'm going 2 get 2 of each 2 supplement my 3rd system. However, 4 right now with money being LACKING I can only choose a pair of 1. What would you suggest. What's brightest, best looking. They'll supplement 2 -ColorStrips, Revo III, Techno Strobe - White, and a Scorpion RG Laser. Thanks again!!! =-)
DJ MKue from New Mexico here....Just wanted to tell you THANKS! Your videos and Big Dogs videos really helped me in my switch to LED. I bought my Aggressor Tri LED about 2 weeks ago, and my 2 SunRay Tri LED's arrived yesterday with my UC3 controller! I have to tell you the video does not do these lights justice...you really have to see them in person. Thanks again...
P.S.
I will post a video of my set up during my next gig.
There are many fixtures tat can use a uc3 style controller. Look for it in the discription when you are looking at the lights. Off hand I know these, starball dmx's, quad gem, and my intimidator moving head can use a uc3 controller.
I don't like the Sunray patterns but I like the concept of the Star Ball in color, so I'll just wait for the next generation full color LED's.. If they ever invent those, they're is sure to be a new fixture like this. :)
hi zak how u link the UC3 controllers dos 1 work the starball and the American DJ Sunray Tri LED or is work on the 1 for starballs and 1 for American DJ Sunray Tri LED
You plug it into the master fixture. You can't link the starballs with the sunray tri led. For this setup I had 2 controllers. 1 for the starballs, one for the sunray tri leds.
Yeh they can be in the same chain if controlling by DMX. The values are different because of the colors though so they will need to be a different channel of course.
If you really want the white I would say go with the starball. However when you start playing the faster dance songs I think the Sunray works better. I guess if you can swing both that would be the way to go. Otherwise I personaly like the sunray slightly better.
That is a really nice set-up running 4 of them like that. That's pretty sharp Zach. Nice to see you doing some good things man! Always enjoy your videos!
great video!

Not familar with the eruolite model. The stand I have is an On Stage Stands I beam truss system. Probably similar to the one you are asking about.

Good video, I'm still not sold on the starball or the Sunray. LED fixtures of this sort are still in their infancy.
