She ought to get a professional service to run her apartment building. It too much for her and she seems a bit dotty. Probably thinks if she is happy then everyone is happy.
Who wants to bet she has piles of money in the bank and yet she still believes she is on the edge of poverty?
If she were younger and nasty, then fine, fight. However, she's old and seems kind. If you don't like it, then, just ignore it and leave or help out and add extra burden to yourself for her sake -- As you would want someone to do to you.
Exactly. Who the hell is going to feel sorry for a bunch of Park Slope yuppies who will blindly pay anything just to live in the neighborhood. That's what they get for being such lemmings.
What are these people doing for a living that allows them to throw away $26k++ a year on rent for an unremarkable apartment and think nothing strange of it, is what I want to know. Unreal.
People live in this apartment building for the location. It's very cheap for the area and there's no finder's fee, plus the apartments are fairly spacious. I lived in this building several years ago, and my roommate and I thought we'd gotten quite a steal until we found out about the heat, etc.
I live there now-- i just moved in 2 weeks ago and WISH I was smart enough to google her name before. It never occured to me that such a sweet old lady would be so.... grrrrrrrr! Here's the rub: I pay 2200/month.
xMannyfestox...toole. First, people are tied to the apartment...at least for the duration of their lease. They must pay rent and go to court to receive relief if the apartment is uninhabitable. For most, it is hard to pay two rents while the courts figure out what your relief is. Second, the tenants expect that landlords provide certain things to tenants, such as heat and hot water. She is not doing that...which would be fine if she deducted the cost of providing those items from the rent.
Well yeah...no shit. Do you live there??? Your comment "if they don't like it, they can move", thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard. You are an idiot..
What a moron. This isn't feudal Europe. People aren't tied to the land. If you don't like where you live then fucking move, it's as simple as that. I realize it's a bit idiotic to have to point out the obvious but you not getting the simplest of concepts if far dumber. Go read a book or something you brain dead tool. Even you handle is stupid.
Do you know why they call them the Virgin Islands? It's because the women are so Fugly even 18th Century sailors that had been aboard a ship for a year wouldn't have sex with them.
SO I'm a idiot for pointing out what should be obvious to people but for some reason is not and now I'm a sexist for knowing history. You have an interesting way of labeling people.
Actually, I did live there for 2 years, right below Gloria on the first floor. It's 562 7th St in Park Slope. People do move out. Often. In a 16 unit building after just over a year, I was the longest standing tenant in the building. Pretty much every other weekend someone was either moving in or moving out.
why are foreign landlady always so greedy?

I feel for the elderly woman. If this were a good feeling movie, the tenants would try to help her rather than tarnish her like a pack of rodents.
For instance, get a portable heater to help the old lady along and let her live her last moments in peace. She seems to be without a husband.

Look at the negative 3 beside my post, and the +3 beside yours (in which you're total agreement to mine.)
Only on youtube.

she broke the lease agreement for not doing her part. YOU DO NOT have to live there and you DO NOT have to stay there for finding out about it.

That is SO not the point. There are laws, and that landlord is not going by them.
