  • In Dreams from My Father, Barack Obama mentions this sermon. So, was this the same exact sermon that President Obama heard that inspired him?

  • I also love how the media never provided dates of the sermons they circulated as I said some are as old as 12 years. They did that on purpose.

  • the purpose of the older sermons was to show that his hate preaching has been going on for years that it hasnt just started which shows that Obama has been taking all of this hate in for 20 years

  • He has had no hate preaching thank you very much. Also, what makes you not think that the vast majority of his preaching over the course of 35 + years has not been like this one.

  • oh so saying god damn america isnt preaching hate? saying everything is the white mans fault isnt preaching hate? Hatred or hate is a word that describes intense feelings of dislike. hmm sounds like it fits the definition!

  • Hmmm sounds like you did not listen to the full sermon. It also sounds like you feel like truth is inacceptable.

  • The only thing that everybody keeps jumping on is the AiDs thing yet many scholars who have been employed by Ivy League schools, doctors and even other notables have made the same claim whether you agree or not. I said also to read Harriet Washington's "Medical Apartheid". I do not believe that it was government created at all however I believe that the government has been slow to respond due to those that it effects (gays and blacks)

  • Some of you here lack history:

Read Harriet Washington's "Medical Apartheid" you wont think Wright and his AiDS thing is so wacky and out there after that.

Also, some of those sermons that the media were circulating were up to 12 years old. I think that this is newer than some of the other sermons.

  • True. Not to mention the Tuskeegee Experiment.

  • 99% of the political stuff he's said is accurate..not necessarily his religious views, however, imo, lol.

  • In addition to listening to this sermon, people should look up the famous "Hope" painting by George Frederick Watts that Rev. Wright refers to.

  • How did this man go from Reverend Wright, as in this sermon, to racist Wright, as in his later sermons where he preaches against the white man and preaches against America; accusing the government of inventing AIDS to kill black people?

  • Easy. He has some fairly radical (not racist, IMO, but that's another matter) views that he generally keeps to himself, but that sometimes spill out into his sermons. The media, in looking for a good story, dug some of his comments out of his massive backlog of sermons.

Barack Obama responds that he wasn't at church on these particular Sundays. Media people say it's hard to believe that he went to the church for 20 years without hearing these remarks. Problem: media people haven't gone to his

  • 1)BO says on one hand he wasnt there, the next he claims he was.

    2) I have seen a few of the DVDs for sale by the church... his comments do not "sometimes spill out". They are there more often than not.

    3) BO wrote his book based on this speech. If you listen, the hate, war, apathy is all caused by racism. Where even nuclear wars is due to racism.

  • church for 20 years. The reality of the matter is that it's highly unlikely that Rev. Wright makes remarks as controversial as those seen in the videos that have been circulating on any sort of regular basis.

  • Those entire sermons are now readily available on the web. Yes you will wince when he says stupid things like the AIDS thing, but listen to the whole sermon and I promise you will be far away from thinking he is full of Hate for America, or any other kind of Hate for that matter.

  • well every minister I have ever met has never said anything like that in any of their sermons!

  • He is a social gospel minister which most are not.

  • He's a radical in some views that I DO NOT SHARE but he's not at all hateful of any race in my view.... I'm White mind you.

  • I listened to this sermon twice and was deeply inspired by Reverand Wright and now understand why he had such a profound influence on Barrack Obama. The sermon is full of hope in a world filled with tragedy.

  • Thank you for posting this sermon. I am not religious, but have been interested in understanding the religious philosophy of Rev. Wright. I happen to be Jewish, and an agnostic Jew at that - however, I am inspired by Rev. Wright's discourse on "the audacity to hope".

  • Way to pick and choose, moron. The man published a book, not a sentence. Nice try though. You should probably go back and pander to your illiterate constituency. Dumb hick.

  • The fragments of video that are shown on TV makes it seem that J Wright is nothing but hate. This sound bite is definitely the contrary

  • The sad part is that Journalists do not give due dilligence and report stories from all aspects. Wright's words that are played over and over are meant to divide and increase ratings. Playing sermons of hope and unity won't do either. And forget Fox they are the GOP media machine they will run with this even if Obama is President. The sad part is no other media outlet even reported a single positive aspect of Wright's teachings. It's a sad day to be an American.

  • To hear with my own ears is better than to hear by way of others. This is the real Pastor Wright. We are all saved by grace.

  • Great clip great JAKEB! Great message. Do you have more. Dr. Wright is one of the great theologians/preachers of the 20th century. He is up there with Gardner C. Taylor, Howard Thurman, Martin King, Samuel Dewitt Proctor etc. Post some more

  • comparing him with Martin Luther King Is an Insult to the great Doctor.

  • Condemning America for its sins of racism, militarism and injustice...in many ways, yes.

You obviously only know about the sanitized MLK that America has tailored to be palatable to the masses.

  • Perhaps you should research some and read Dr. King's speeches during the 60's.

  • This is one of the most beautiful sermons I have ever heard...there is not one racist word in it. It is full of love and hope and forgiveness. I am rarely inspired, but I am inspired now. Anyone who says anything negative about this sermon has obviously never heard it. It is beautiful.

  • Wow, listened to both parts in full, and was very impressed. Even this non-church-going, raised-without-religion person, can see how this sermon is important -- not just for Christians but for people of ALL faiths. Hope. Hope is what unites us, hope is what brings us to better days. In spite of pain and suffering -- be it silent and personal, or loud and public -- hope is what heals, hope is what heals. Amen.

  • This is such a great speech. I'm not even christian, but I had to check this out after the scandal got out. I think its message is not one just for christians, but for all mankind. In the ancient greek legend of pandora's box, pandora, due to curiosity, opened it against zeus's orders and released all the evils on mankind. Plagues, ect. But, there was one good thing in the box: hope. That one good thing undid all the bad things.

  • I'm all white. I'm not Christian. I thought the sermon was beautiful.

I heard his "hateful" sermons. While some of the comments I found to be made in ignorance, I couldn't find any made out of racism.

  • A-HA! The truth shall set you free! I dare Bill O-Reily and his chaps to talk about this sermon on FOX News.

  • cherry picking by the enemies, and I mean enemies, in the media and others with a vested interest to make sure that the power remains in the hands of the few, not the many

  • This is absolutely beautiful!! A universal Christian message that is beautiful enough to inspire. America truly has a rare opportunity in Barack Obama.

  • Powerful message

  • too bad this man's recent sermons weren't like this...

  • the (devil) evil, lie...don't you find it funny they did not play the end of that sermon that said we love our enemies

  • How interesting that THIS sermon (that actually HAS influenced Barack Obama) has so few hits, yet the divisive statements that Obama has repudiated (even more than a year ago) are receiving all the attention.

Could it be that someone can be insipired by some of what a speaker says, but turned off by others? Could it possibly be that Obama heard these types of sermons much more often than he heard what is now being played in the news?

    Get a grip people.
