@SSJ2Starscream a recruiter told me that its because the army surveyed a bunch of soldiers (combat mos's primarily i believe) about the physical fitness test. The survey revealed that soldiers thought running two miles does not come in to account when they step into a war zone. If this is true, i find it stupid
damn...i go to benning in november and havent preprared myself to do anything other than the pushups, situps, and the 2 mile run.dont tell me that im going to be doing something completely different
Im leaving at the end of January to Ft. Benning, and was wondering if this is going to be in place when i go? I just want to make sure I'm training for the right stuff
Overall I'm excited about the new APFT but I think that one of the main drawbacks to this will be all the extra equipment that you will need to conduct the test. One of the benifits of doing the old APFT is that you needed absolutely no equipment besides a piece of soft ground for PU and SU, a place to run and a stopwatch. I think that it could be a pain for large units to implement.
As former 11B/19D (sep.), I think its beyond time that the Army incorporated elements of what really happens in combat to their PFT. While sit-ups, push-ups, and a two-mile run in comfy PT gear measures strength to some extent, in no way does it reflect the rigors of combat in Afghanistan. Its time for the Army to finally stand behind that "train the way you fight" phrase by applying it to PT as well as STX lanes. If administered properly, this should actually make the PFT more difficult.
Looks like this PT test is a little soft, I agree that the PT test is fine how it is now the two mile is the most important in my opinion, but we should incorporate a drill with weapons? or maybe a 40 yard sprint? what do you all think?
Sorry for the late comment, I will wait until the scores start being posted up and then do a simple comparison test on this gender neutral APFT. I am well into mah 40's , smoke , have some minor med issues and got some cushion for the pushin P ).
Hey it happens when you can't work out like you wanna. I will not speculate on the results and or chances of a fat old man beating a huge percentage of AD females on this gender neutral APFT ).
I'm leaving 20110418 for Ft. Benning BCT..... will I be required to take this new PT test?,.. And if so is this any more or less difficult than the regular PT test?
You may be in the test group that does these PT tests. There are more events and it's designed to better test your combat strength, but we cannot speak on the difficulty as it's still being tested!
The new fitness test is being tried in a couple of training units. Whether it is replacing the way things are now will be considered once the trial is completed and reviewed.
weird how they made the run 1.5 mi instead of 2 mi

what does "gender neutral" means?
Quex01 3 months ago
@Quex01 Gender neutral is when it is for both sexes, not bias by one or the other.
