  • Thank you for a brilliant video. I wish I'd been there.

  • i think 1162 is now in the old newport vr workshops

  • @the124Lscania Yes, it was based there (with Elecrail) back when this video was made too.

  • Omg that V/Line is electric how many of these operated

  • @mattmanroxs

    Only had the one line....

Now the overhead lines had been taken off..

  • Yeah, what seems like the bees knees one day is gone the next. Everything changes.

  • my father joseph willis drove the first electric train to warragul 21 july 1954

  • Wouldn't be many that can say that.

I'm sure that nobody on that day could've thought it would all be end 44 years later.

  • Very good video mate. Thanks heaps for uploading, the L's are really good, it is a shame that L1162 can't run out on the mainline these days. But she will return some day, sometime.

  • The lack of electrified mainline for it to run on will be the most serious impediment to that happening, but I know what you mean. I guess high-speed runs to Pakenham may still be possible in the future.

I lived at Longwarry in the 1980s and saw the Ls in their final 7 years of operation.

  • I doubt we'll even see that (high speed runs) - Steamrail aren't even allowed to go at a decent speed with the two K classes on either end. The speed the red rattler is doing at the 3:00 mark is much faster than what they do in the Glen Waverley and the Camberwell to Mitcham shuttles.
