  • Every application written by JavaScript...? lol

    It's crazy thing.

  • @narucy56 It is the only choice if all the apps are in HTML5.

  • I want this guy to speak at my funeral it would calm everybody down

  • This makes too much sense.

  • i think they are aiming the project to the wrong target:

A Super User (professional) will have projects and files on his computer that needs a lot of space, and programs that will take a lot of memory and stuff..

A End User will probably only navigate the web for email, music, videos n stuff.

So, this project should be aimed for end users, cause they are actually the only ones that will use chromeOS the way they it is suppose to. No super user is going to store important data on their servers

  • I see three design flaws:

    1. Backups are either not encrypted or are encrypted in such a way that the backup service can decrypt the data. Yet, the backup service may be hacked, the government may request the data, an employee may gain access to the data, and the backup service may begin abusing the data.

    2. Physical access to the device introduces several vulnerabilities.

    3. Some software (e.g., video editing programs) will need a lot of offline storage. Yet, web apps are normally limited.

  • @SechsyTwink, this OS isnt aimed at users who tend to use demanding software on a regular basis (games, editing etc) ... Your first statement isn't a flaw ... it's a feature ... for the police & government lol.

  • This guy could be telling me about the world ending very soon, but I dont mind

  • Cool, but what if you wanted to tweak the OS for your own personal purposes. Many people with more, "advanced" skills in computers like to tweak and change their OS to better suit their needs. Even if it's adding a few new files or programs within the root directory, or just simply changing how it looks. If there's a security measure to prevent any changing to the OS, it'll just overwrite what was changed so people wouldn't want to update at all. There should be a second mode for advanced users.

  • @stevenmcl1 But who in there right mind would be a professional computer person and get Chrome OS?

  • @KindomOfHappiness Well in all honesty, they're building it off of a Linux OS. There's a variety of reasons why they'd want to use Chrome OS.

  • So I can't pirate shit?

    FUCKING BOTNET.

  • Yo Dawg, I heard you like sandboxes, so we added sandbox in your sandbox so you can be in sandbox while being in sandbox :P

  • There needs to be a small offline storage so that you can access your most important apps and documents offline if your connection is not good, and keep your private stuff there. I want to create a line of browser based computers with a variant of Chromium OS (w/ improved UI) and Blackberry grade security...for dissidents in other countries. I will also redefine Cloud networking so that it does not depend on central Google computers. I have a design for that and it's currently top secret. ;)

  • Very nice quick run through the security architecture, but >>>WOW THE GUY TALKS TOO FAST!!<<< I can barely understand him, and I'm a native American-English speaker!

    Very cool tech, though

  • The biggest issue here could be is privacy. Plus what about your piratebay movie collection

  • You are Google fans

  • google anti fanboy amuses my pet monkey but i am not amused..microsoft nazis shouldnt be on youtube

  • Ahhh, but what if you put on your own firmware, by passing the kernel integrity check? ;)

  • @goodkingkyle1 Listen better, he said all data is encrypted. If you put your own firmware you will read junk.

  • @oxygenromania

DBAN >> Bootstrap custom firmware >> New OS.

  • Can you get skype?

  • What the fuck!? Google is fucking awesome!!

If you DON'T like Google, DON'T WATCH THESE VIDEOS!

  • aproximately when is it going to go out?

  • @readingisretarded I thing we got you're fuckin point,If you don't like google don't use it then we don't have to hear you're crap!ty

  • if u cnt hear him, turn the volume up

  • Volume is too soft!!1 *activates caps lock*

    AH THAT'S BETTER

  • This Guy Calms Me Down .

  • All this security counts for nothing when the whole thing balances on a single username and password, we all know how rife account phishers are and with this they dont even need access to your own personal hardware once they have the password.

Now if they used a fingerprint reader ONLY for logging in that would be better but I still dont like the idea of google basically owning the rights of all your data to sell to whoever they see fit.

  • why does he speaks so fast??? can't make a 5 min video with a civilized way of speaking

  • Hey Google: Why don't you look up "how to create good sound quality" on Bing or something? You sound like you're talking through a pillow.

  • @markomus1 must be on your side... perfect for me :)

  • @89lovely89 I think it is (now that I'm running this on a different system). The speaker still speaks a bit on the muddy side, but at least I can understand him.

  • in short, you are screwed and cant do anything without the internet

  • @anthonyla45 I read, it has built in 3g in the testing ones idk though.

  • o someting like virual spaces end communication security between virtual spaces, application, GUI, terminal end kernel end communication

  • @xavierdebourbonne on different virual space levels

  • I think they should have chosen someone who is more capable at speaking to represent google.

  • they can make steam as a web app and add disk access for games

and that's how they can double the users by adding the gamers

  • how am i meant to hear this

  • Wast of effort, Im sticking with my linux install. Where everything already works properly, and i have a cli.

  • this never get viruses because viruses are not supported

  • @gtasanandreas162 yes, it can get viruses. it is a linux distro and there are viruses for linux but nowhere near the amount that windows has

  • So, wait, what if your internet craps out and you were in the middle of something?

"Internet signal lost, Now Shutting down."

  • @ShinFuYux - Chrome OS supports HTML5 - a correctly designed HTML5-based app can use local storage (in a controlled fashion) to save data on your hard drive, and even allow you to work while the internet is down. E.g., Google Apps will be turning on that feature in a month or two, we're hearing - so you'd be able to create or update docs offline, and they'd sync to your Google storage next time the net was available.

But it'll take a year or so before a lot of apps use that capability.

  • If you want a lightweight, fast and secure Linux OS, Lubuntu is the better choice by far. I for one have no desire to use an OS that gives Google access to my files on a cloud. You can set up Lubuntu as a 64 bit OS and it has tons of apps available for it in the Ubuntu Software Center. That includes Wine which allows you to use Windows programs and VMware player which allows you to install Windows on a virtual machine. I see no point to using

Chromium OS, it's pathetic compared to Ubuntu.

  • how does this prove that the user's information is safe? to me it proves that google is like 95% secured from the rest of the outside world, yet we have to face hackers or other threads while connected with internet.

  • The more I hear about Chrome OS, the more it sounds like the freedom of using a computer is being sacrificed for efficiency. Now, I love standards, but one of the beautiful things about computers and the net is innovation which breaks the standards.

  • FINALLY! People (you and I ) have been complaining about Microsoft for years. People always said we need to build a better O/S. well we didn't have anything except Mac. That might explain why Mac has experienced a big increase in popularity. But now we have CHROME. what out world. Thank you Google.

  • @wewilhelm We have had linux for years. Give ubuntu a few more years then it will be able to rival windows as the home OS. I really can't see Chrome becoming that popular.

  • @wewilhelm Linux has been here the whole time.. in fact it's been here before windows or mac. I don't understand how you could leave that out with your idea of a "Better" os.

  • Instead of complaining about what is and isn't a known possibility, why don't you download the OS Live CD, and try it before making false accusations... Its an alternative Linux as such...

  • Gaming Pc

    Mac

    Regular W7 laptop

    Google Chrome netbook

    Im all set

  • @googlechrome can you still play normal games like Half Life 2

  • @jman22009 no

  • @jman22009 Those are made for Windows/Mac OS

If you can't open it up with a web browser, then you can't use it(Look on your desktop, just about everything on it you wont be able to use)

  • Google Marketer Says: Our OS can't use any programs except programs made by Google.

Google Exec Says: Try to play it off as a security feature.

  • @Darthmaul443 It can't run any programs that aren't HTML5 web apps. If you want to run custom stuff, Google fully supports hacking it (unlike, say, Apple) has a development mode hardware switch in the Cr-48 and a guide to custom firmware and operating systems.

  • @Darthmaul443 Ignornat prson says: You can ony use google appls on Google Chrome OS

IT guy and user of Chrome OS Says: Hmm, that's weird i'm using Microsoft office web apps for FREE! There are also thousands of other web apps available for free or cheap in the chrome web store.

  • google chrome ose = linux

virus for linux does not exist :D

  • @romarioanisa Yes they exist. They suck, but they are still there.

  • @romarioanisa there is ONE virus for linux, it was made by a guy who is like an evil mad scientist genius. fortunately its very easy to find it. in the very unlikely even that you may encounter it

  • @skibbli O_O

  • LOL as if web applications were actually separate... they integrate and mesh-up ever more... what a false start here!

  • Stallman was right. ChromeOS is open source, but if everything is "on the cloud" how can you control your informations or files?

  • @MyLeoPlz same like you can control your gmail, google calander's tasks and all other great stuff. You can not just control em' but also be sure, that it is securely saved on the cloud and no data will be lost :) Also you do not need any kind of updates and so on. If you haven't used any cloud file system, you should try this one: db. tt / Ox3uezr

  • @pimpadryla I always use cloud systems like gmail, calendars, dropbox, etc... but it isn't correct say that Chrome OS is open and free because if the SYESTEM is open but application are java based and on the cloud, I can't know what other people do on my data. I accept the risk but OPEN is another thing than Chrome OS

  • @MyLeoPlz chromeOS isnt opensource, but chromiumOS is

so therefore, you could theoretically have your own server to store all your information in.....

...but the thing is....google already has pretty mature and advanced cloud-services (gmail, docs, etc.)

and its going to take years for opensource webapps to catch up to what google has already done

  • @MyLeoPlz you can use software like norton or mc afrie that will keep your info safe.

  • @MyLeoPlz Well, Chrome OS is for people who spend the majority of their time on the internet.

All your information, like Facebook, your email, etc. are already stored on the internet.

Besides anything like downloads and stuff like that would be stored on Google's servers which are 100x more secure than Micro$oft Window$.

  • @ShanSinghTV ok, but "100x more secure than..." is not "secure". that's what i think. it's incorrect speak about ChromeOS as a "secure OS" four ours personal informations.

  • @MyLeoPlz nothing is secure on the internet... NOTHING! internet is interconnecting networks and networks primary purpose is for sharing information... something can only be MORE secure than others.. e.g. google is MORE secure than Microsoft.

  • @MyLeoPlz all the files i think gets linked to gmail i think.. not sure

but im confused abt the antivirus programs??? wats the protection

  • @MyLeoPlz That's a personal choice. These are all web pages, so it's likely just what you'd think. If you've ever used DropBox or Flickr or mSpot, you know what to expect. Your files are stored in online services and you can download them if you want and upload them elsewhere if you wish. ChromeOS supports USB storage devices if you need a generic 'box' for data temporarily, but the idea is to lean on web services for your data.

  • @MyLeoPlz Hence the ability to control security better.

  • huh what

  • What if you make a program that edits the browsers memory, all the apps are attached to the browser in it's own process space, I believe the memory for apps have to be within the range of the browser memory. What if I intentionally makes changes to my ROOT partition? they won't stay, because the os will think someone hacked the OS. "You can have the greatest security measures available, but there is always someone running the machine, get to that person and you get to the machine."

  • What would happen if, I want to download something? Since it was mentioned web browsing is in a sandbox? And if it's in a sandbox how can i even download the updates??? Here's the flaw, You can install updates, but your web browser is in a sandbox. It checks the current root partition to see if it has been tampered with, what if the partition gets tampered with as it downloads, or you download a tampered partition?

  • what i love about Google is the fact that they are open to the public but there's one problem. this video pretty much show you (the hacker) how this system works. so lets pray to god these aren't the only security measures and that those measures stay secret.

  • idk why this guy makes me fucking laugh...

  • SINCE YOU HAVE NO OS WATCH AS MUCH PORN AS YOU LIKE

  • ja ja ja, the lock behind the guy killed all my security fears. Cloud Computing ahoy, I come.

  • @googlechrome who is working with google? is it windows or mac or none?

  • I detect a lot of rage in you, my young youtube padawan.

Nobody cares about your hemorrhoids prescription.

  • Can't trust you fuckers you all ready got busted in UK for hacking people's Wireless networks. Guys if you ever see a Google Street view car outside your home shoot those mother fuckers.........they are not recording the street they are nicking your data from your PC!

  • @BattleGround16 lulz. Secure your fucking router, moron.

  • @helmutlvx

it is secure you fucking cunt

  • Do you think if the data is saved in your computer it is safe?

  • @mayil111 Yup. It's on my external hard drive. The USB's unplugged. Balls in your court.

  • @mayil111 Maybe... but sending it across the internet is more unsafe and maybe you don't want to let anyone to see your data o_O

  • Think my head just exploded. Yup. This guy is a bit of a salesman.."But that's not enough! Nope, now for free 99 we give you [one more little trick repeated over again...] a new partition...or whatever. And how does this work when your computer doesn't have access to the internet? The world isn't wired or wireless everywhere computers are..I use my laptop on bus rides and airplane flights daily/once a month. And what if my connection is weak? Does my processing power just drop off a cliff?

  • This just in: a piece of malware for the Chromium OS infects the Chrome browser, hijacks the sandbox, which then disables it, then having a downloader install a rootkit, which hides every malicious process, which then hijacks the updater and the safe partition, redirecting updates to a malicious website which installs infected updates to the system, thus having a completely screwed up OS where your legit updates will not match the hijacked safe partition.

  • @OnlyJustUnknown oh but you didn't hear what he said at 2.24!

If your update is "interupted" [ie virus?!?] he said " it SHOULD be ok" - don't you trust him, he looks honest! ;-)

That was hilarious! we've all heard "it should be ok" before.. I think that was a famous generals last words....

But seriously, this is way over due for computers - so in general your work will be safer, although no-one has said what happens if you can't get internet access??hmmm...

  • I do understand computers, but I don't understand your videos. They're also kind of lazily made, put more effort into them. (Ppl please don't troll around, this is a constructive critic).

  • @ThePhazonMonkey This troll eats billy goats and you crossed the wrong bridge!!! rrrarrrrrr...

Seriously what do you expect? a million dollar budget for an intro video for an Open source program that is likely to change every few weeks?

Also where is your constructive part? all you say is don't be lazy & you don't understand it... come on!!! if you are going to say " this is constructive" then actually BE constructive.. tell them how long it should be or what colour to use or what to say etc

  • @9114steve lol, ur right. I don't even know any design :P

  • @9114steve lol, ur right. I don't even know any design :P

  • I would love to use Chrome OS but only as a secondary system, WHILE having a normal PC and a primary machine.

  • @alex14469 grub dual boot sucka

  • @alex14469 You can install it on a 2gb usb stick and boot from that, or you can dual boot while keeping your existing windows installation. The the usb stick is an easier option. Goto chromeos.hexxeh.net/

  • @alex14469 if you have a new pc and w7 u can set up that if you press a button when booting up you go to a screen that only has a few things like skype/internet etc no games no nothing just like if you quickly need to pop on

  • @eloooooooful - you mean, like booting into QuickWeb on an HP PC? That's not Win7, that's actually a Linux-based environment (most of them based on SplashTop).

  • @alex14469 i'm not really comfortable with this new cloud computing technology. Just like you cleverly pointed out, i'd use it as a secondary os on the notebook. And have my main os on an micro sd card if all this is even possible.

  • @alex14469 Um... that's called installing the program?

  • Firstly, I really wish that Linux had block the use for anything google related.

They are in no way a real open source company no matter how much fan boy would like to THINK they are.

    Welcome to 1984 my friends.

  • I think this is a revolutionary idea. People are always wary of change. I think this will take off as a niche market in its own right. Of course, it wont be for everyone but there are a huge number of people out there who only use their computers for the Internet and for those people then Chrome OS will serve their needs. It's not meant to replace any other OS, it's just a modern addition for the Web 3.0 market.

  • How about everybody write an application that just starts collecting data, and will eventually eat up all the space on their "Cloud" servers.

  • You people don't understand it! Your files is STILL on your computer. Only Chrome OS's history, bookmarks, etc is stored online if you HAVE sync. But if you do not HAVE sync, it WILL be ALL ON YOUR DRIVE.

  • @65Hyper NOT sure but i dont think thts quite right. chrome OS does not store files on ypur computer - it has ONLY a browser which can access a cloud on which all your information and files are stored

  • I hate how everyone assume that Google will actually do something with your info . Now the only reason that Google would even look thru your person information is because your doing something like illegal. And i'm not talking about that illegally downloading music. I'm talking like Murders. if your not on a mass killing spree you should be good. And your info on facebook is far more dangerous than your information on google.

  • @SuicidalRace they might use information to bombard you with advertising tailored to you. they might insert ads into your desktop like they insert ads into youtube videos.

  • @aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa78815 then google would lose every ounce of "coolness" because the moment that google put Ads on the desktop the sales of the OS when fall to rock bottom

  • @SuicidalRace true. but i believe they will find a way to get advertising revenue off it, just like they have with youtube

  • When i heard him say "Security" and "Internet" in the same sentence, i realized just how unsecure this is going to be.

  • @TheSellexProject hahahahaha, this is an awesome illusion to knight and day

  • ok i have the key, keep the cloud, but any data pertaining to a certain user is randomly fragmented. extremely small but crucial bits of information are stored on your device and are never transmitted. to take this further i would say google could sell this os with a thumb drive that would act as a key and store these fragments, for use on other computers.

  • @PeteAnimation More files doesn't necessarily mean the computer will run slower. That has to do with how much (useless) software is installed and disk fragmentation more than anything.

  • Just watched the whole video, then I thought... he needs to turn his microphone up.

  • so basicaly this is cloud Os

  • All of these videos are pretty great, but they're wayyyy too quiet.

  • how do I download it?where can I download it?I just get a .vmdk file so how can I get an image to boot off of?

  • 2:25, omg what happens.....HEY SHIT GUY, YOU HAVE TO MUCH SELFISTEAM, HERE TAKE THIS SLAP!! NOW...GO BACK TO WORK!!!

  • this OS only good for netbooks that you use for checking mail while on the road. It can never replace linux or windows. You CANT trust an advertising company to keep your private files. What if my ethernet card breaks down, i cant boot if i dont have internet? What about people with slow connection? What happens if their databases crashes? What if someone hacks my online OS? And im sure there will be ads everywhere and they will track every click i do. Goodbye privacy

  • @sinand99 This is for people who spend all their time in the browser already, if 99% of your time is being used on something you can't use you should see a doctor. If their databases crash? They have millions of them, even if some do they're backed up. Security? Do you want me to go on about Windows or do you want me to go on how everything ranging from online banking to your youtube account, which are all cloud based and use personal info?

  • @vargulf19 lol you think google is secure? Go check the news about how google was completely hacked in China and lots of official files were stolen. And we talk about an OS here, cloud is for webbrowser, cloud system is not ready for an OS yet. Lets say you are in a business meeting and internet goes down. You cant open your excel file because that crap is cloud based! Now you are screwed! How embarrassing!

  • @rapido3011 LOL 100 peta. definitely more than that m8. if not way more than that

  • This guy talks WAY TOO FAST. I CANNOT FOLLOW OR UNDERSTAND HIM. Please take away his coffee....

  • Comment removed

  • This is all fine and dandy - but for a company that banks largely on a WEB-OS... why in the world don't they focus on a way to innovate and improve existing internet protocols as opposed to the system - as that is where a large chunk of vulnerabilities reside?

I'm interested to see how their browser will handle ARP poisoning attacks - namely spoofed SSL certs.

  • Google and security don't belong in the same sentence.

  • Cool, but then I think... Google made Google Transcribe... and then I commit suicide.

  • Would it be possible for this guy to be even quieter? ...

  • Do you want to store ALL your information in a secure box in your house, or somewhere in the gigantic mass server in Google HQ?

  • @pappegye well, in your house, you could be robbed, you may never know who was it, and never recover it, in google server, or in the cloud, you are protected by privacy law, you would know who was if it was not respected, you wouldn't loose the information, and you could get a big compensation....i choose cloud servers, definetly, cause there's no chance for thiefs.

  • @pappegye i have a doubt here...sometimes in my house, but in other situations in google datacenter. i dislike ideea that my secret information belongs to another, and a corporation will follow solutions to valorifie you informations always.

  • @pappegye The thing is they already have more information than you think they do, so they underestimated the public reaction to giving them all the information. Now they're like ... ooh yeah safety of your info, uhm don't worry, we won't do anything with it.

  • @pappegye dual boot via grub.. quick web terminal / workstation

  • @skibbli

yep .. SONY already did it with thier VAIO E series

    check this model ; VPCEB26FG

    I have one

  • Sim claro!

tudo q é para melhoria to dentro rsrsrs...

  • @pappegye You store every movie, song, youtube video, web page, and e-mail you've ever accessed on your personal hard drive? No wonder you have no free disk space.

  • @pappegye if it means i don't have to back up any of my data ever, the datawarehouse!

  • @pappegye do you keep all your money in a box at home or in a bank ?

  • @vdragos1 HOME

  • @vdragos1 instant win

  • @pappegye Continuing on from that analogy, no, I would not prefer a secure box with all my information stored in what is essentially someone elses house. No thank you. Wake the fuck up, people.

  • @pappegye I would actually prefer my data in the cloud, companies like Google and Microsoft have strict security and disaster recovery guidelines, and most likely your data is not stored at one location, many of these companies have multiple locations that synchronize data, as far as physical disasters Cloud data is over 100 times safer than on site backups! Also, if your computer get's a virus, how long dose it take you to fix it, or find out? Still safer in the cloud! need i go on?!

  • @pappegye at google hq..... if you can send a file in an email, then whats to stop someone pulling something off your hard drive. google know what their doing

  • @pappegye You can point ChromeOS to use your Workgroup or Domain and store/serve files on your NAS instead of Google's server.

  • @pappegye It means that every time you watch porn, your information is protected by Google HQ's super security programs rather than McAfee Anti-Virus 90 Day Free Trial.

  • @pappegye with google.

  • @pappegye obviously there will be an option to have a backup of your info in a secure external hd in your house

  • @pappegye Google

  • @pappegye The less stuff you physically have, the less stuff you need to take care of. You want your stuff on your computer? I hope you have backups, buddy, cause one day it will crash.

Same as with watches, mp3 players, cellphones, gps devices... each one has a battery you need to charge. You get a smartphone, you only charge one thing,

It all depends on what you do with your computer. I'm sure your grandma would love Chrome OS or the iPad as her main computer.

  • @pappegye Its double-edged, actually. On the server, your data is all backed up on Google's server, (Nothing's going to get deleted there) But, your privacy is also compromised.

  • That's really good exploral and chorm company have reality and its good company so plz make more another software still to viewers take advantage from ur software

  • @ everyone here talking about not not having the internet how would it work?

if you didn't have reliable internet then you probably wouldn't even know about this in the first place :P

  • This is against the privacy, We know they have most of our data, But not to this limit, Cookies, History and Accounts data, The idea isn't good anyhow.

  • @dathris What a moronic comment!

Google Chrome OS is an operating system based on a browser. All applications you run are cloud-based, so your data is stored no differently than in Gmail. This data is stored in a database, just like all other email systems and Google employees can't just go read things. They administer the database to keep it running, but can't read your personal data.

  • Google has some smart people.

  • Now people have got past government security before, who says somebody couldn't make a virus good enough to wipe all the data or steal all the data from Google?
