the whole thing. I'm supposedly going to burn in hell and am told that regularly as an atheist in good ole bible belt TN. that i find despicable enough to make me feel these people need help.
Personally, that comment doesn't keep me afraid. It empowers me. It reminds me that there is nothing this world can throw at me that I cannot get through with God.
when I was 10 yrs old at a sunday school one time the pastor painted such a firey burning miserable picture about hell saying that if we did not get saved that was where we would spend eternity, needless to say I was freaked and had to be saved, of course it did not really "save" me, but the church got to add another soul at the time to enforce their show on even more vulnerable naive folks. that is the biggest propaganda I have faced. Everyday christians say its their duty to "save" lost souls.
@stuckinouterspace Who ever told you it is our duty to save souls, lied to you. And I'm am sorry that you had this experience. But our duty is to plant as many seeds as we can. We are to bring you to Christ, and let Him save you. Obviously, you have the final say so, but all we can do is show the love of Christ. But sometimes it is good to think of the fiery, scary, miserable pit we were saved from. Though it is not really for frightening, though its true. God bless, and God loves you!
I was a brain washed full gospel christian for 25 years. When i stepped back and looked and watched people in church, they are brainwashed also. Pastors get all of us to close our eyes and raise our hands in the air and praise God in a loving way. We sang soft songs and then the collection plate came around. Hypnotism I reckon.
I am a christian and i disagree with your point about not needing god. but i got a story youll like. a number of clergy support learning about religionas a whole in schools. well one baptist took it so far and was so full of himself, he sued a school district to ban yoga in schools and sealed anyone from learning any sort of spiritual or religious practices from any faith from education. as a christian that infuriates me more than that liar dawkins.
Out of your eyes only...have you ever seen a man walk on water? There are about 2 billion christains in this world and Jesus said we would do greater miracles than what he did...would the world be like the magical wonderful world of disney by now? Please wake up and smell the coffee. You been had by the oldest trick in the book. hypnosis, witchcraft "trickery of the mind to take your money. I was a christian for 25 years. I left it. Have you ever seen a man raise from the dead? do not quote bibl
I never belonged or professed christianity until I was 17 years old and for one very reason. The answer to your question. Yes I have. But that no greater proves my beleifs or faith than anyone else nor their disbeleif. it just is what it is. Which denom or practice do you think Iam being bartered on? Yeah I see the spiffy salesman in his alter on tv but thats really not what real christianity is about.
Its fun and helps others cope in when beleiving that all of christianity is out to scam you. It is immediate release for some to believe. I have delt with so much loss at such a young age its easy to say beleif gives hope. Be it as it may it puts a whole load of obsticles and challenges with the interaction of loss< this is where i learned that christianity is not about christians nor "getting into heaven" but gives weight to what salvation may be.
I am arguing from the theistic perspective. If its atheism you fancy, I hcan't prove or talk you out of your intuition on the matter. I am saying that christianity as well as any other faith or philosophy should be challenged but at the same time given weight beyond the communities that surround them.
@terrec Amen, the TV preachers have created such a BAD name for the real Christians. We are about love, and making sure the most people possible get to heaven. Not Money.
Check out 'Atheists attacked by idiot bigots on Faux News'. That is just... unfathomably unethical. Aren't news reporters supposed to be even a little bit unbiased?

I suppose the most personally significant one was this one guy who was William Craig's Butt-Monkey who sent me several messages that were basically an over-complicated vfersion of teh Arguement of the First Cause. Ironically, he ended up convinceing me of the exact oposite of what he was trying to argue, which is why I don't believe in the Empty Universe hypothesis (The idea that there ever was a universe with nothing in it).

Pat Robertson is pretty bad. He uses the money he gets from his television audience to invest in the diamond trade in Africa.
