The late, great Larry Knechtel on piano. Few people know that Knechtel arranged & played piano on Simon & Garfunkels' classic "Bridge Over Troubled Water." He played bass on The Doors' hit "Light My Fire," as well as the Byrd's version of "Tambourine Man." He recorded with so many big names that it would make your head spin: Elvis, the Mamas & the Papas, Barbara Streisand ... He played keyboards on the Dixie Chicks' album "Taking the Long Way," & even toured with them in support of that album.

So in 1986, while she was at work, I walked up and handed her two tickets to NEIL DIAMOND live in concert in Dallas that night ! We went. It was amazing. Mom died 10 years ago. I will never forget that concert.
When my friend and love of my life passed away, this song kept playing on the radio, and was like a message from beyond for me.
I saw 2 concerts of Neil recently, which were fantastic, and I was looking for live songs on internet. It's only fitting that I came across this one on the 22nd aniversary of my friends death, today. It moved me to tears.

I always used to have troubles with the lyrics to this song's refrain.
I originally thought "in the other room" was "in the afternoon"; likewise, I originally heard "in a penny arcade" as "every penny I paid".
