I'm pretty modest, and I will say that my picking here was subpar. Picking primarily should come from the action of your wrist, not your whole arm, and that was a tendency I had when this video was recorded. I've worked quite a bit to change that in the year and a half since and I think I do a lot better now.

You can use Audacity or Windows Media Player to slow down a song so you can hear the notes more clearly. I'm not lying lol. Not that I didn't look at some of the tabs that were out there around the time this was taken but they all weren't very good, so I just slowed it down and figured it out.

One whole step down. There's obviously many different ways and tunings with which you can play most riffs on guitar but I'm pretty certain that Shadows Fall uses D standard for this song. Search Shadows Fall lesson and you can see them play parts of it.

You can pretty much get any guitar you want for that amount of money. Guitars are kind of like cars though. Everyone is different and you just need to go out and get a feel for a few and know what kind of goals you have for it (versatility, playability, tone). I'm a little biased towards PRS since I own one but people love their Gibsons, Ibanez, Washburns, Dean etc. There's lots of choices. Personally, for my next guitar I'll be looking at PRS and the Ibanez Prestige series.
