Well....in all actuality, Billy Powell penned this tune(*only songwriting credit the man ever had in his career w/ Skynyrd). as far as the guitar playing goes, I'll give Ed all the credit in the world...that wa definitely him.
@bowslap To add to my comment...each member of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band brought something to the table. To me, the 2 that really stands out is 1) Obviously, Ronnie Van Zant...he was the heart/soul of that band. Without Ronnie, it just ISN'T LS
2) Ed King's playing was so crucial to that music....his Strat and ability was the perfect counter-point to Allen and Gary. Wasn't the same after he left in the 70's, and when he was ousted in the 1990's.
cool arrangement, ek giving his pinky a good workout. &really like the drumstick pattern too.
whiskey rnr and country boy ... what great great melody lines they were. nuthin fancy just so stand out both still pop into my brain's juke box to this day; and it is music to my ears when they do.
Ed King - Skynyrd just wasn't the same after he left. No disrespect to Steve Gaines, he brought something different to the table. Ed's swing-style of play is truly unique and defined a lot of what Lynyrd Skynrd is.
It is so wonderful to see someone on here who can actually sing well - Nice job! Thanks for doing it justice. Also, Ed King is not only a top flight pro as a player, but his bigger contribution to the music world is his massive talent for song writing & arranging. It was Ed who brought his knowledge & skills to Skynyrd, and got the early material formatted, arranged & orchestrated into a commercially acceptable structure, without Ed King we may never have heard Skynyrd's music. - Thanks Ed King!
I miss when ED would join us at the official "Lynyrd Skynyrd" website forum. He was just so cool and took the time to answer so many great questions. This was the forum I became friends with JudyVZ and current band members too. Too bad so many odd characters ruined that forum with personal attacks and ignorance. Anyhow, I often come back to this great video clip. Truly an amazing talent.
Well I'm the guy singing in this video with Ed, Kelly and Donna, and I'd just like to say that while I appreciate the fact that my little brother thinks highly of my guitar skills, the comments about me being a "better" guitar player than Ed King are absolutely ludicrous and ridiculous! LOL (And they both know that, trust me!)
Thanks Ed King.

See, rthat is the difference with a pro,
Notice the first few bars hes adjsuting his volume and tone for the
song and to fit the band hes playing with,
It not how many notes you play or how fast you play them.
Its how you fill the spaces in the song
without drowning out the other musicians,
or the audience,
Fill n those gaps BIG ED you be the man.

@sfslickdawg OHh no doubt, ronnie spotted eds talent,
no questions listen to the 1987 sweet home and the 1987
workin for the live the leads are unreal, his tone
is twice as unreal, his playing i describe like
syrup. Sticky and sweet also it flows off key
and off time, a BORN all time great, Ed
is the best there is,

I couldn't agree more. I wasn't thinking...Tony's great and should've taken a solo. Sometimes you gotta knock me upside the head to get my attention.

Dude, did you ever see the singer play guitar? He should be playing. He makes Ed King look like an amateur.
