This is the most obvious example of how the media creates superstars out of asshole and assholes out of superstars. ABSOLUTELY! The most overrated fighter ever. A close win over a Dane that never fights anyone. A "win" over Hopkins at 43. A "win" over a washed up Roy Jones. He hurts British boxing with his attitude because it proves that Brits don't want to cross the pond to fight. It may be true or maybe not but Joe makes it very easy to say, "Yes, Brits are cowards". Not saying it's true, but saying he helps the myth grow.
I have a newsflash for you, not one pro boxer is a coward, boxing is a brave men's sport. Especialy a world champ with an undefeated record is not a coward and certainly not a shame for the Brits.
That said I also think some people rate him 2 high, that's because of his mixed heritage. Italians love him, Irish, Brits,... In fact Roy Jones was a better fighter then him in his prime, the same for Hopkins.
You know what, you're a right, bcibib. I would never ever ever call a boxer--any boxer--a coward. What I meant to say was Joe Calzaghe took fights that he knew he could win. He never once dared to be great. That's not what inspires people. Beating an old Roy Jones and beating a 40+ Hopkins is no feather in the cap. He's a good guy and the British media extrapolates that into greatness. However when your best win is over Kessler, I have a hard time putting you in the category of Louis, Ali
That reminds me of schmuckaloonies who would say Tommy Hearns absolutely sucked and had no skill or heart because he lost to Leonard (in one of the greatest and most hotly competitive fights every.)
mikel kessler..jeff lacy...you call them bums now after he beats them but lacy was unbeaten and suppose to be this huge knockout artist...joe fucked him up.joes the man so fuck you
Eubank was a washed up bum by the time he beat him. He was losing nearly every fight he had! Add to that the TWO fights he had against fellow BUM Ray Close who was ROBBED on both occasions and we see how washed up Eubank really was!
think its due to the fact no one gave ali a chance with foreman and thats why it has come to be such a talked about fight and how great of a win for ali it was. foreman would of been the hardest fight for Tyson (but who knows) I think cus had only told tyson to avoid them style fighters because of sonny liston's dismantling of floyd Patterson, Tyson had a much better chin
First off any version of Foreman would give Tyson absolute hell. Styles make fights and Tyson was tailor made for Foreman. A prime Foreman I am pretty certain would havw defeated Tyson. Cus D'Amato Tyson's first trainer and father figure even told Tyson to stay away from fighters with Foreman style. And the reason Ali Beat Foreman was because he was a smarter fighter. He simply out thought Foreman and used Foreman's aggression against him.
bullshit buddy, foreman was ali's greatest recognizable bout, everytime they show a clip of ali they have 2 include d foreman bout, ali had lost his 1st fight 2 frazier,so thats when foreman got in the highlight of his career and knocked out frazier in d beginning of their fight, so according 2 that every1 tought that foreman was 2 much for ali but ali proved every 1 that styles make fights,n an ol foreman wouldnt had doen shit 2 tyson, larry holmes was like a foreman and got dismantled by tyson
Ali beat a young george foreman, in his prime. Evander holyfield got a points decision on a 40+ year old man, who had a 10 + year lay off from boxing. This is not a bad bad reflection on ali's skills, its a reflection of the fighters george foreman fought. Ali's greatest fight was not just the george foreman fight! It was a big one, but the frazier fights were just as big. Also just being heavier than someone does not make you automatically better!...
I think that the difference between Ali and Holyfield/Moorer in fighting foreman, is that Ali had a plan from the beginning. I think that is what makes Ali great, he was a ring thinker. But I don't know.
Foreman beat the HW Champion of the World! That's what! He was like 45-46 years old when he did it. Moorer was stupid enough to stand in front of Foreman and trade punches when he had the fight won....stupid! Nobody, not Tyson , not Ali, Not anybody ever could have stood toe to toe just trading punches with Foreman and won. Foreman could knock anybody's ass in to next week. Exactly what he did to Moorer.

Foreman beat Moorer so what! Moorer was a middleweight. Yet Foreman couldn't beat Tommy Morrison, Axel Schultz, Shannon Briggs. I mean Foreman lost to "B" level competition. He lost to Holyfield who had just moved up from Crusiser weight and was 50lbs lighter than him. That like two weight classes below. Foreman is good, but he should've stayed retired. Ali's greatest win is against Foreman, so what does that say about Ali?
Is that a serious comment? You clearly no NOTHING about Ali's era if you say something like "Ali's greatest win is against Foreman, so what does that say about Ali?". Seriously, when you know the fight game and its history then comment. Until then don't comment. All it does is annoy those who recognise how ignorant you really are.
Very unlikely. For a start you can't spell and have no grasp of grammar. You have probably misread the small bits you have read about the sport. Regardless, I was not necessaruly disagreeing with you that Foreman was Ali's victory. That is debatable but I could understand if you thought that. As for Ali's greatest victory, Sonny Liston and Joe Frazier are also names you might want to consider. I have lost count of how many HOF's he beat.
2 godlikerich, and this isnt a grammar discussion, so u may kno spelling or grammar but that doesnt mean u kno boxing or it can go the other way around, besides u mispelled in sum uf ur comments so i wouldnt even bring that up if i was u,and if i mispelled or sounded 2 slang and u got a prob with that, then go kiss a donkey's ass
Stay on topic mate. What has me kissing a donkey's ass got to do with discussing boxing? I think I do know my boxing especially since I am a boxer myself - it helps to know about it if you are to compete. My spelling errors were typos not idiocy which is clearly what you and others clearly suffer from.
just cus u claim 2 be a boxer doesnt mean ur right, i claim 2 be a boxer and what?? and yes i know what d fuck ur saying about run off words, but buddy u r offending others 4 the same mistakes that u r doing, may b their words r "typos" also.
What all that rubbish you just typed was typos? I don't think so. My bringing up spelling was merely pointing out that it dilutes whatever your trying to say - especially since I can't understand it with no punctuation. And what has me boxing got to do with anything. Well it helps to know about boxing to be a better fighter. Simple point really.
yea i noticed i 4got the punctuation, i knew u were gonna say sumethin about it, but anywho, you're the one that mention u r a boxer, without me asking, and i simply reply and asked so what of it?
i read your rant godlikerich Just cos your a boxer doesnt mean jack shit and what boxer bitches about spelling i bet your not even a boxer you should call yourself pansy man ye little bitch CUNT!!!
What I disagreed with most was you implying that 1) Foreman was not a great fighter and 2) because Ali's greatest victory (according to you) was over Foreman that somehow undermines Ali's achievements. Both assertions are plainly wrong and only someone ignorant of the sport would imply such a thing.
anyway that comment was meant 4 sum1 who was saying that this foreman wouldv beat tyson! n i was pointing out y he wouldnt! n the only reason ali beat foreman was because foreman was a wild swinging chin high fighter

I wish Atlas was my boxing coach that inspired me!!!! when he was like do you wanna switch places do you want me to fight for you !!! hell That dude would have a flyweight KO a heavy lol!
yea Moorer is the one who brought that out of teddy because moorer was sooo damn lazy, its his fault that atlas was the star after that fight, Atlas was the star for pounding it into him, If he diddnt have atlas he wouldnt have won
if moorer had oliver mccalls chin he may have never lost... he had sooooo much fucking power... my dream fight was to see morrison vs moorer....two of my all time favs...
either way morrison and moorer are my two all time favorite heavyweights...i think tommy had a better chin and more power but he usually had his problems with southpaws...hipp gave tommy alot of trouble...if i could have ever made one fight happen besides morrison and tyson it would have been tommy and michael...sick ass fight.

In fact Roy Jones was a better fighter then him in his prime, the same for Hopkins.
bcibibcibcpCB 2 years ago
You know what, you're a right, bcibib. I would never ever ever call a boxer--any boxer--a coward. What I meant to say was Joe Calzaghe took fights that he knew he could win. He never once dared to be great. That's not what inspires people. Beating an old Roy Jones and beating a 40+ Hopkins is no feather in the cap. He's a good guy and the British media extrapolates that into greatness. However when your best win is over Kessler, I have a hard time putting you in the category of Louis, Ali
soprisrb 2 years ago 5
Yeah, while Jeff Lacy and Peter Manfredo were rubbish compared to Joe Calzaghe, they certainly weren't cowards.
Chris82bc 2 years ago
That reminds me of schmuckaloonies who would say Tommy Hearns absolutely sucked and had no skill or heart because he lost to Leonard (in one of the greatest and most hotly competitive fights every.)

mikel kessler..jeff lacy...you call them bums now after he beats them but lacy was unbeaten and suppose to be this huge knockout artist...joe fucked him up.joes the man so fuck you

Mikkel Kessler?? Who??
Lacy?? Beat nobody!
Huge knockout artist?? What, against tomato cans??
bobsinno 2 years ago
he beat chris eubank aswell i spose he was a bum??...fuck off fella your an idiot
Euroboss01 2 years ago
Eubank was a washed up bum by the time he beat him. He was losing nearly every fight he had! Add to that the TWO fights he had against fellow BUM Ray Close who was ROBBED on both occasions and we see how washed up Eubank really was!
bobsinno 2 years ago
joe calzaghe is a nobody compared to other well known champions. I consider Moorer, for example, a much better champion than him.

and if any 1 got off topic was u "mate" the topic was about foreman, not about spelling, which u brought up 1st
hydrocitg 3 years ago
think its due to the fact no one gave ali a chance with foreman and thats why it has come to be such a talked about fight and how great of a win for ali it was. foreman would of been the hardest fight for Tyson (but who knows) I think cus had only told tyson to avoid them style fighters because of sonny liston's dismantling of floyd Patterson, Tyson had a much better chin

Teddy Atlas - The Best
2ScoopsandIceFan 3 years ago
First off any version of Foreman would give Tyson absolute hell. Styles make fights and Tyson was tailor made for Foreman. A prime Foreman I am pretty certain would havw defeated Tyson. Cus D'Amato Tyson's first trainer and father figure even told Tyson to stay away from fighters with Foreman style. And the reason Ali Beat Foreman was because he was a smarter fighter. He simply out thought Foreman and used Foreman's aggression against him.
godlikerich 3 years ago
bullshit buddy, foreman was ali's greatest recognizable bout, everytime they show a clip of ali they have 2 include d foreman bout, ali had lost his 1st fight 2 frazier,so thats when foreman got in the highlight of his career and knocked out frazier in d beginning of their fight, so according 2 that every1 tought that foreman was 2 much for ali but ali proved every 1 that styles make fights,n an ol foreman wouldnt had doen shit 2 tyson, larry holmes was like a foreman and got dismantled by tyson
hydrocitg 3 years ago
I also know that I spelt necessarily wrong but it was a typo. So don't try and jump on that.
godlikerich 3 years ago
You could argue george being so much heavier than holyfield was a disadvantage, if he was lighter he would have had more stamina and speed
solly118 3 years ago 4
Ali beat a young george foreman, in his prime. Evander holyfield got a points decision on a 40+ year old man, who had a 10 + year lay off from boxing. This is not a bad bad reflection on ali's skills, its a reflection of the fighters george foreman fought. Ali's greatest fight was not just the george foreman fight! It was a big one, but the frazier fights were just as big. Also just being heavier than someone does not make you automatically better!...
solly118 3 years ago 4
I think that the difference between Ali and Holyfield/Moorer in fighting foreman, is that Ali had a plan from the beginning. I think that is what makes Ali great, he was a ring thinker. But I don't know.
Neglefil79 3 years ago

MUNRO220 3 years ago
You CLEARLY did not watch the Shannon Briggs fight if you believe he lost that one.
bignamek 3 years ago 3
Foreman was robbed aggainst briggs. I had Foreman ahead 117-111 at the end.
007rocksalotmann 3 years ago
Is that a serious comment? You clearly no NOTHING about Ali's era if you say something like "Ali's greatest win is against Foreman, so what does that say about Ali?". Seriously, when you know the fight game and its history then comment. Until then don't comment. All it does is annoy those who recognise how ignorant you really are.
godlikerich 3 years ago
i know a hell ov a lot more than you trust me! if foreman wasnt alis greatest victory then who was?
MUNRO220 3 years ago
Very unlikely. For a start you can't spell and have no grasp of grammar. You have probably misread the small bits you have read about the sport. Regardless, I was not necessaruly disagreeing with you that Foreman was Ali's victory. That is debatable but I could understand if you thought that. As for Ali's greatest victory, Sonny Liston and Joe Frazier are also names you might want to consider. I have lost count of how many HOF's he beat.
godlikerich 3 years ago
2 godlikerich, and this isnt a grammar discussion, so u may kno spelling or grammar but that doesnt mean u kno boxing or it can go the other way around, besides u mispelled in sum uf ur comments so i wouldnt even bring that up if i was u,and if i mispelled or sounded 2 slang and u got a prob with that, then go kiss a donkey's ass
hydrocitg 3 years ago
Stay on topic mate. What has me kissing a donkey's ass got to do with discussing boxing? I think I do know my boxing especially since I am a boxer myself - it helps to know about it if you are to compete. My spelling errors were typos not idiocy which is clearly what you and others clearly suffer from.
godlikerich 3 years ago
just cus u claim 2 be a boxer doesnt mean ur right, i claim 2 be a boxer and what?? and yes i know what d fuck ur saying about run off words, but buddy u r offending others 4 the same mistakes that u r doing, may b their words r "typos" also.
hydrocitg 3 years ago
What all that rubbish you just typed was typos? I don't think so. My bringing up spelling was merely pointing out that it dilutes whatever your trying to say - especially since I can't understand it with no punctuation. And what has me boxing got to do with anything. Well it helps to know about boxing to be a better fighter. Simple point really.
godlikerich 3 years ago
yea i noticed i 4got the punctuation, i knew u were gonna say sumethin about it, but anywho, you're the one that mention u r a boxer, without me asking, and i simply reply and asked so what of it?
hydrocitg 3 years ago
i read your rant godlikerich Just cos your a boxer doesnt mean jack shit and what boxer bitches about spelling i bet your not even a boxer you should call yourself pansy man ye little bitch CUNT!!!

What I disagreed with most was you implying that 1) Foreman was not a great fighter and 2) because Ali's greatest victory (according to you) was over Foreman that somehow undermines Ali's achievements. Both assertions are plainly wrong and only someone ignorant of the sport would imply such a thing.
godlikerich 3 years ago
anyway that comment was meant 4 sum1 who was saying that this foreman wouldv beat tyson! n i was pointing out y he wouldnt! n the only reason ali beat foreman was because foreman was a wild swinging chin high fighter

George Foreman's knockout punch on Moorer split his mouthguard and pushed a tooth through his lip, so yeah.. it was a pretty heavy punch.

if moorer had oliver mccalls chin he may have never lost... he had sooooo much fucking power... my dream fight was to see morrison vs moorer....two of my all time favs...
rickbeezer34 3 years ago
Moorer would've trashed Morrison and KO'd him in about 8 one-sided rounds.
wdj749 3 years ago
yeah ok bro...moorer aint got the chin to withstand tommys fire power...be similar to what tua did too him
rickbeezer34 3 years ago
Yeah, well Tommy also had a bad chin and has shit stamina. Moorer can punch if he wanted to.
wdj749 3 years ago
either way morrison and moorer are my two all time favorite heavyweights...i think tommy had a better chin and more power but he usually had his problems with southpaws...hipp gave tommy alot of trouble...if i could have ever made one fight happen besides morrison and tyson it would have been tommy and michael...sick ass fight.
rickbeezer34 3 years ago
Morrison and Moorer would been a short fight. Whoever gets hit good first falls and doesn't get up. Neither one had a chin to speak of.
