  • I have an MG Midget MkIV like yours, but a bit newer (judging from the gauges).

Start by de-smogging it - removing all the emissions control, if you can in your state. This is probably the biggest improvement you can make.

Lose the Zenith-Stromberg and run PRI's Mikuni conversion or a Weber conversion.

If it's hesitating noticeably, check your damper fluid level (the cap on top of the carb - should be up to the bottom of the threads). Use the proper fluid or DOT-3 brake fluid.

  • Does seem to be running not too bad. But the engine is very noise what weight oil are you using?

  • the oil weight i am using is quaker state 10w30 and i have set the valve gap to the specific gap given in the maintenance book. it does still seem kind of loud

  • I believe 20w50 is required in most four cylinder British engines. Of course I could be wrong for the 1500cc. That hose you where blocking of was the the fresh air hose on the CC canister?

  • yeah i think so it the breather hose for the charcoal canister thats my guess

  • 10w40 is better during the winter in cold climates because 20w50 is too thick at 10ºF

  • Something wrong?

Hmm mabey an air lea, hook up everyhin to stock, and then c what happens, what fuel pump u using ? ANY TIPS ON STARTING ONE i have a 77 1500 and cant get it to start
