personally, i have found that benjamin moore paint works the best. as a professional, i never use a crappy foam roller cover or $.99 tray. if painting professionally, do not use a mini roller for the entire wall. it wastes time and energy. simply invest in an 18 inch roller and a roller bucket. all you have to do is the cut in with the mini roller and the rest is extremely easy.
@Immortalized1 for overall quility, based on colors, coverage, and duribility, and also price and ease of application, i would professionally recommend Benjamin Moore
As a professional painter, I must say that the use of a "W" pattern is a huge waste of effort and will create more work than necessary. Load your roller being sure to stay about a half roller width away from the corner and start rolling from the middle of the wall height and work the paint to the floor and ceiling lines. Excessive rolling is not only a waste of your effort, it can result in a less smooth finish. Roll each successive section and slightly overlap keeping a "wet edge"
To continue, taping of the ceiling line is not practical especially with textured ceilings. Cut in the ceiling line carefully and cross roll close to the ceiling edge as you roll the wall sections. Using a 5' paint roller pole will allow you to easily move the roller the length of the wall, be careful when coming to the ceiling and baseboard areas so you don't have excessive paint when you stop your painting stroke. Don't try to squeeze all the paint from the roller and don't roll excessively.
I am using Valspar Signature paint on one more room. The first room I used two coats to cover a white wall and was using a light color paint. The built in primer was not effective. The second room I painted over a white wall with a dark color and used 2 coats and still have an uneven sheen of satin. The third room I am painting now I am using a real primer and will attempt to cover in one coat. We will see.
Actually Valspar paint is a good quality paint but the part they did neglect to tell you on here was that they used the Signature Valspar which is the one with the primer in it and personally the ONLY paint I would use!. Now it does have primer in it but do NOT expect to cover up a black wall with just one coat of Valspar Signature... be reasonable do a base coat of Kiltz or Kiltz2 to get it primed and ready and your white will be ULTRA WHITE! Thank you!
