I am 30 and only beginning to learn this most difficult aria...It is not difficult because of the notes on the page, but because of its meaning and the dramatic quality needed to fully engage with the emotion of the character. Please do not sing opera until you have gone through puberty,it is damaging to the voice, plus u shouldnt start with this.I would take this video down if i wer you.You will hopefully make a fine opera singer one day,but not yet.Lovely voice.

@cosmopolitan8 That is not true in any possible way. I sing at the Metropolitan Opera Children's chorus and I'm twelve and our chorus can sing Puccini fine and trust me our chords are fine.
@Yourface230 You may sing in the children's CHORUS of a Puccini show but that's completely and totally different from singing a Puccini ARIA. You shouldn't be singing arias of any type until you're mid to late teens and certain arias, such as many Puccini ones, shouldn't be sung until you're much older. Like your late 20s. Trust me. This is coming from someone who had to go on vocal rest for 4 months last year due to pre-nodules. And I wasn't even singing any super complicated arias at the time.
Breathing, relaxation, and placement techniques (should) be similar as you grow up. Therefore, I find no fault in preparing young singers with these techniques through voice lessons, and allowing them to sing age-appropriate repertoire. However, the part of the voice that we cannot control so easily- what happens directly at the vocal folds, changes drastically as your vocal folds mature and lengthen. So, singing this kind of rep when you are young can cause bad habits in adult singing.
She is very amazing. She has an excellent Operatic voice that could crossover Classical and maybe Popera. I will tell my friend in Paris about her. He is a former Opera star that now coaches young talents like her! I wish the best for her! Brava Fortisimo
13 years - it's not time to sing opera arias, espessialy 'un bel di vedremo'
now she got something that might grow up with her, but not this way.
And of course emotions, 'cause singing is more than only correctly notes.
She didn't tell us a story about passionatly waiting the man of all her life(=her husband=father of her song), really passionately, but mild, strong and soft at once.
how can 13 years old girl do that - i don't know...
@EmilioBazilio I agree with you about most of that, but 13 year olds can sing opera with out damaging their voices. I agree that Puccini and most of those romantic composers are not right for 13 year olds to be singing for many reasons. But Handel and boroque composers are very good for younger voices.
Honestly, upon what I can hear here, I don't fear for her voice as she is not trying to mimic a huge spinto soprano but sings it high & clear, somewhat chorister-like. And her parents commented back these ventures in the heavy repertoire are very occasional. Maybe should she explained more in depth Cio Cio San's back and forths between hope and despair concerning her husband possible come back to convey them more faithfully in her singing. That's all.
Exactly right!! I bet her "teacher" pulls out "In Questa Reggia" by sixteen... Ugh!! Do these young kids even bother with stuff like the 24 Italian songs anymore?
Give the girl a break. You either have the voice, and the potential, or you don't. She does. And she's using that voice and showing it to the world, It's not a bad thing. And I think she's happy that she started young. She's amazing, This may be a natural Talent, or they've trained her, She's 16 now, and did she ruin her vocals? No, did you know Opera singers put vasaline down their throat so it Would help them sing, and help NOT to damage their vocal chords? It's most likely what she did.
She shows no sign of strain or duress. She can sing it well. What is the harm? Why limit oneself? When she grows older she may not even want to sing classical anymore. I played violin and now I'm a rocker.
well, sorry, but I don't like using microphones, even in school, others can sing with them, but I'm the only one who never does, I don't need them and I bet she won't either ;)
alot of potential...but way too young to sing this.........she will ruin a beautiful gift if she is not guided correctly.... Alot of child prodigys have ruined their voices too early.......I hope she is not going to do the same...Good Luck to her...she has a lovely voice......
There is no need for sound advice....because good training has been followed throughout. Common sense would dictate that each video is a momentary snapshot. Didn't think posting vaccais and scales and everyday development would be as interesting.
@operaqt: Clearly there IS a need for sound advice. She's singing Butterfly at 13, and that's just about as rediculous as anything I can imagine. You must be out of your everloving mind if you think that's good for her training.
amazing?beatiful?no no this a pop singer its nothing to do with a opera technics,of course is a holliwood style, everyubody is howling because is american style and they think is awesome.but this a weacky voice hedlped with a sound enginering.
You have such potential! Don't.. Don't ever sing something so difficult at your age. I would like to look in the papers one day and see that you've struck a record deal, but this song will damage your voice PERMANENTLY.
ya know, you need to sloooooow down your repertoire. i mean, charlotte church was cool when she did her first album, but her first album was within her reach. after that, her music just got weaker and weaker, and okay, she's rich and famous, but she's also a train wreck with a damaged voice.
i think it's interesting to listen to videos like yours, but i also cringe a little when i hear kids pushing themselves or being pushed to do things that are beyond them
push your vocals????? noooo push your work first... figure out your technique. Old school teachers use to only work on scales and other vocal exercises for 2 or 3 years before a student opened their mouths to an aria. No, bull.
I don't know why so many people think that she is horrible. The only part of the song I don't think is fantastic is where she has to hit the lower notes. You've got to remember, she is only 13; she will get better with time and training.
I agree with you, QuiRan...and I think she has the potential for a lovely voice. But one, microphones are not used in opera and two, the pitch and breath control are not exactly that consistent.
Firstly - there is no excuse to be rude to a young singer under ANY circumstances - there is constructive critism and then there is just plain rudeness! On a constructive note however, please don't sing Puccini at your age - infact, avoid operatic repertoire until your voice has been operatically trained which it CAN NOT do until your vocal chords have finished developing or you will risk nodules and damaging the voice! Respectfully I give this advice in the hope of helping you reach potential!
I agree. She still has a-ways to go, just as I do =) Plus, from what I've seen, she needs to have her voice retrained. I mean, it's pretty - a choir voice - but it has SO much potential to be GRAND, she just has to keep improving.
beautiful voice and a great job, but i think singing Un Bel Di without the top "b" at the end is a bit of a crime... dont get me wrong, im not putting her down... as someone who's had there voice classically trained id agree with a few people here by saying she shouldnt be attempting puccini aria's for another good few years, it will only damage her voice in the long run!! in fact the human voice doesnt fully mature till the age of 25. only a suggestion anyways.. keep up the singing for sure!!!
so what if she isnt mature id like to hear you sing this song better than her!i bet you cant if you think you can make your own video and ill decide that!i think she is absolutely amazing and i love this song keep doing what you are doing
who cares if she isnt mature id like to hear you sing this song!i bet you cant she is absolutely amazing and i like this song keep doing what you are doing
beautiful voice!!!! i hope she will find something other than puccini to sing. She has a long time to be old keep, that voice light and pure for the next decade and you might have a long career, darken now and you will sound like an old by 18. good luck.
She may have the beginnings of a voice there but she's doing herself no favors by attempting to sing arias which she has neither the maturity nor the technical expertise for.
Go away, study your craft for another ten years, then come back.
Just RELAX. You've got a great instrument but there's something I think it's that you're trying to be someone who you're not... use your own voice... not someone else's :)
Well, of course it lacks feeling! She's 13!She shouldn't be doing this!Puccini requires vocal maturity and good training. It's simply cruel to throw this at a 13 years old child! There's more to singing than reaching the right notes. She's got a great voice, why don't we just let her sing what's appropriate for her age!Why Puccini???
Is so great see the youngs such in love for ópera, and sing so good, is not wonderfull, but I hink is beautiful. keep going the great job, you gona found your way, and you gona be a great ópera sing someday.
Maria Callas sing that same peace in a rádio concurse when she have your age, and just like you she do not have in that time yeat the voice after grow inside her and loock hwo she are!
omg!! what are people complaining about!? she's not trying to sing it as a 40 year old soprano- she's singing like a young girl!!! give her a break!! talk about what's good like her pitch and use of her head voice!! it can only help her in the long run!!! she's not ruining anything as long as she's not imitating a grown woman's voice!
@SweetAngelOfMusic94 Ahh, high school vocal critics... always the experts, gotta love 'em! A few school musicals and choir concerts under their belt and suddenly they're Simon Cowell. I was curious to see what musical savant was behind such a poignant critique as "Ouch! My poor ears!!" so I clicked on your singing videos. All I will say is "people in glass houses...." Work on breathing from your diaphragm. It will help you not sound as flat and nasal. Good luck.
I agree with some of the comments in that she's got potential and at least she understands how to use her head voice. Teaching young girls myself, sometimes they have a hard time finding their head voice. BUT, she shouldn't be singing this aria...I can hear her larynx raising!
She has a very beautiful voice, and I love her dress! But the song is too mature for any 13-year-old. Keep singing, but don't do anymore big arias like this. Mozart may be more age-appropriate. The roles of Susanna, Despina and Barbarina are all good choices to pick repertoire from. I don't want you to lose your voice before you're 20.
She's only hurting her voice like this. But she sounds good for her age. But I'm pretty positive she's gonna be a mezzo or contralto in the future. So she'll be babymezzo in a few years.
If she keeps up studying as she gets older, I look forward to hearing her when she's more developed. She has a nice early start and has a nice instrument but like anybody else has a VERY long way to go.
Not bad for her age! I just hope she isn't forcing her voice to sing songs like this because it could really mess up her vocals. But she sings better then some adults that try to sing opera.
This is a very wonderful song..but it sounds like her voice isn't ready for it...maybe it's just the background sound mixing in..but I would save this song for later.
You can not compare opera singing to pop singing, EVER. This is way to advanced for a 13 year old, Flatline is not telling her to stop singing, She just needs to sing songs that are appropiate for her young voice. She has such potential and if she keeps singing these HUGE arias then she will hurt herself. If she HAS to sing Opera give her some Barbarina's arietta. I'm sure she would sing that beautifully, and it would be fitting. No more Puccini, please don't ruin your voice.
She needs to wait, wait, wait. I agree with you. She can start off with some traditional songs that are not so vocally demanding. I remember Beverly Sills started singing at a young age but she still sounded like a little girl. This girl is trying to make an artificially mature sound, which is bad. No need to rush into opera. The voice isn't going anywhere. It's not like playing other instruments...if you got a voice then you got it, if you don't you don't.
You didn't do the top Bflat at the end....! How's it coming along? I know you were very young there, must have been scary, and suppose you'd have felt even weirdy 'acting' it more too giving it expression which it needs. I suppose being called Aria you had to sing.. You are lucky to have started young.
Butterfly si jeune, c'est touchant... Continuez, miss, car vous avez un potentiel intéressant. Votre voix n'est pas encore déterminée à votre âge, alors ne l'abîmez pas, mais prenez des cours sous l'égide d'un prof patient. Brava !!
You have a fine voice! If you have a voice teacher, drop him/her and get someone who knows what he/she's doing, not making you sing this stuff. You could really have a great career, or you could wreck your voice before you're twenty. Think about it.
I maintain that she's good for her age, but she should hold off on all of the exposure and harder pieces until her voice develops. Look where it got Charlotte Church..Aria has great potential; I hope she gets into a very good college to continue this pursuit.

Aaaaaw! Come on! You can't just compare a 13 year old beginner with Maria Callas!

Well, of course it lacks feeling! She's 13!She shouldn't be doing this!Puccini requires vocal maturity and good training. It's simply cruel to throw this at a 13 years old child! There's more to singing than reaching the right notes. She's got a great voice, why don't we just let her sing what's appropriate for her age!Why Puccini???

omg!! what are people complaining about!? she's not trying to sing it as a 40 year old soprano- she's singing like a young girl!!! give her a break!! talk about what's good like her pitch and use of her head voice!! it can only help her in the long run!!! she's not ruining anything as long as she's not imitating a grown woman's voice!
carusoclarinet 3 years ago 4
can i just ask... can singing opera when your younger really damage your voice for life??
cosettexxxfirearch 3 years ago
not brilliant, she lacks control over her voice and she went of pitch a few times, but i suppose as far as 13 year olds go, not to bad.

Ouch! My poor ears!!!
SweetAngelOfMusic94 3 years ago
@SweetAngelOfMusic94 Ahh, high school vocal critics... always the experts, gotta love 'em! A few school musicals and choir concerts under their belt and suddenly they're Simon Cowell. I was curious to see what musical savant was behind such a poignant critique as "Ouch! My poor ears!!" so I clicked on your singing videos. All I will say is "people in glass houses...." Work on breathing from your diaphragm. It will help you not sound as flat and nasal. Good luck.

No. She sucks.
cfilipow86 3 years ago
singing arias from madame butterfly can damage a grown opera singers voice if their not the right soprano.
rossman181 3 years ago
I agree with some of the comments in that she's got potential and at least she understands how to use her head voice. Teaching young girls myself, sometimes they have a hard time finding their head voice. BUT, she shouldn't be singing this aria...I can hear her larynx raising!

She have a lot to practice, very bad..
KaryBoleyn 3 years ago 2
And you have a lot to practice regarding English. She's just a child w/ balls to show her work.
Keinlash 3 years ago
She has a very beautiful voice, and I love her dress! But the song is too mature for any 13-year-old. Keep singing, but don't do anymore big arias like this. Mozart may be more age-appropriate. The roles of Susanna, Despina and Barbarina are all good choices to pick repertoire from. I don't want you to lose your voice before you're 20.
musicyh 3 years ago 3
Eh... She's not amazing. She really needs to practice it. She's good, but this song is DEFINITELY not the right kind.
Awsumgrl96 3 years ago 7
She's only hurting her voice like this. But she sounds good for her age. But I'm pretty positive she's gonna be a mezzo or contralto in the future. So she'll be babymezzo in a few years.
titanfan5 3 years ago 6
Very nice voice for her age...but no 13-year-old should be singing Puccini...

If she keeps up studying as she gets older, I look forward to hearing her when she's more developed. She has a nice early start and has a nice instrument but like anybody else has a VERY long way to go.
BelCantoBoy 3 years ago 3
just curious. Can you sing like that? Probably not,so who cares if the song is "age appropriate".

sorry, but, i dont like...maybe in a couple years...
marcosgoficina 3 years ago

I'm thinking, what nut would assign a puccini aria to an adolescent, just curious. With that said, she actually has a lovely voice.

Not bad for her age! I just hope she isn't forcing her voice to sing songs like this because it could really mess up her vocals. But she sings better then some adults that try to sing opera.

No more Puccini, please don't ruin your voice.
madinie 3 years ago 8

Brava !!
mariasarda 4 years ago
You have a fine voice! If you have a voice teacher, drop him/her and get someone who knows what he/she's doing, not making you sing this stuff. You could really have a great career, or you could wreck your voice before you're twenty. Think about it.

HEY ARIA'S MY NAME U CANT TAKE MY NAME HAHAHA Jk u can take my name if u want but i dont sing oprah k :)

I maintain that she's good for her age, but she should hold off on all of the exposure and harder pieces until her voice develops. Look where it got Charlotte Church..Aria has great potential; I hope she gets into a very good college to continue this pursuit.
